Nice basic moves. From 1:48 onward, we don't see the footwork. As a 'how to', the footwork is important to see. Whether it's 6 count or 8 is a good to know but as long as it can be divided by 2, I'm ok with it.

agreed, not an expression of Lindy hop, because in this video he's toooooo flourishing, whereas in real Lindy Hop hop, the man digs down into the floor and has strong, masucline moves, not the graceful, smooth, feminine, flowery artuculations that appear here.
Yes there is a difference between masucline and feminine.
It's sort of like Modern Jive with East Coast Swing footwork
It isn't ballroom swing/jive, because the step definition and shaping isn't there and it isn't improvisational Swing (Lindy or WCS) because there are no anchors or syncopation.
I agree. If these guys danced at a social swing dance they'd be laughed at for their awkward style. Stylistically they're way off... their movement doesn't feel like jazz. They're standing too upright and the way they move their hips is pretty funny.
This is a great representation of Ballroom East Coast Swing, but it's not authentic East Coast swing. While East Coast Swing, or Jitterbug, and Lindy Hop fall under the same umbrella term of "Swing", East Coast and Lindy Hop are distinctive dances in their own right. (That's not to say you can't mix 6 count moves from ECS with Lindy Hop's 8 count moves.) This is not a fair representation of Lindy Hop.
All you "professionals" out there... knock it off with the negative comments, wont you?
If you can do a better job then get your sorry asses out on the dance floor and show how it "should" be done in your own videos. these folks are doing a fine job and its YOUTube, hullo?
@markoc99 I don't need to shoot my own video to tell you that East Coast and Lindy are not the same thing. Six count steps sometimes appear in Lindy, but swingouts NEVER appear in East Coast.
@esprit15d Yeah, it's like they forgot they are doing east coast swing. This looks way too much like they are doing west coast swing with east coast swing patterns....
@ultimatejoeshmo if you cant tell the difference between east coast and west coast swing, then you should be a little more positive in your critique... n'est-ce pas?
definately triple time east coast swing with ballroom style roots as far as i can tell. They're very upright and there's a lot of hip movement; for the guy too. Not really groovey enough for jive no? no where near lindy hop thats forsure.
Well, it's great to see that swing is still swinging... I love swing dancing. This song has a decent tempo, BUT, although you guys are right on beat, you look a bit too routine. His rigid posture and hand movements just don't jive. And she is bit bouncy with her hips. Just a little advice from a fellow hepcat. Not bad, but "dig it", just don't "do it".
This is so low energy it makes me a little bit sad to watch it. I love the inspiring childish lifeforce that comes with swing dance. East Coast is super simple, but it can still be done with energy. It's a shame the camera weaves back and forth so much when the couple dont move nearly as much - makes it hard to watch the dancers.
what kind of swing dancing is this...becuase i have a routine i have to put together and i need 3-4 moves...i am also the first teen to do this down here and graduate so it would really be helpful
to me this looks like they are doing a "triple step" swing, in which they do a 1-2-3, 1-2-3, rock, step, repeat. It's very slow, and actually turned into a sort of moving step. Also, this triple step is really, ludicrously slow, and to the completely wrong genre of music. Although I would admit that the timing they have, this sort of triple step is appropriate, I'd do faster timing with a faster triple step, or a single step, which is a 1, 2, rock step, or 1-2, 3-4, 5-6.
Very nice job, Chris & Kelly! It's a lot fun watching you two cool cats "cut a rug'. Crazy, man, crazy.....I dig it to the max, daddy-o! Striclty from coolsville! :)
