Oh crap, my old Gateway laptop makes this same sound! Though it isn't mine anymore, it's my mom's now, but she doesn't use it because it's slow as ass, but it's been beeping this exact same way for 2+ years. Since it has been beeping like this, it's been really super slow, even after a reformat. It takes it 2 hours to open Firefox, the whole time the HD is reading something. Also, it couldn't find the OS more than once but hasn't happened for a long time. Is the HD about to die anyways?
I just bought a macbook and amongst other things I'm ticked about. A thousand dollars and no SD card the Hell Steve The Hell. Anyway mine has been beeping since I took it out of the box.
I have also been having this same problem. My Macbook has an aftermarket HDD in it that I got from OWC. It seems to be working fine and I have had the beeping thing happening for several month. I guess I'll keep backing up regularly replace it if it goes out.
hey, your mac is beeping like how mine used to.......it ended up that the hard disk had to be changed so it might be worth taking it back to the shop if you can...

yes it is dying. replace it. of course you can probably buy a new computer for the same price as repairing the disk.

thanks it was indeed the hard drive.. I backed it up and a couple days later it died. Apple replaced it quickly.
