I've cried twice in film history. When the Jamaican team carried their bobsled over the finish line and when Rocky stood up on the count of ten. YO ADRIAN, I DID IT!

I think Adrian had an orgasm at the 1:14 mark ! Then at the 2:05 and at the 2:10 mark Apollo's wife had two orgasms.Rocky might have won the fight but Mrs. Creed got the most satisfaction.
You may not feel that this fight was based on the Wepner vs. Ali fight but if you watch the interview of Sly Stallone that I discussed earlier,he said that Rocky was based on the Wepner fight. Stallone said he was inspired by Wepners knockdown of Ali and the fact that Wepner lasted into the 15th round. Wepner may have been whooped in this fight but Stallone admired his persistence to last 15 rounds with the great Ali. I'm just relaying what Stallone said and providing a video to back that up.
@standback23 Ofcourse he was inspired by Wepners so called knockdown, he did not knock Ali down, but the fight against Apollo Creed was not based on that fight. If it was than Rocky would have rabit punched Creed all night long, with Creed fooling around a bit and knocking out Rocky in the 15th. And it's weird though, because there are many fighters who went the distance with Ali (so not knocked out in the 15th, but actually surviving 15 rounds).
@michaelyouth The previous poster is correct, Andre the Giant did throw Wepner out of the ring just like Rocky was thrown out of the ring by Hulk Hogan. Wepner realized that there were just too many similiarties between himself and the Rocky character and filed a lawsuit against Slyvester Stallone . Sly acknowleged that Wepner had a strong case against him and subsequently paid an undisclosed amount to Wepner to avoid a lawsuit. Smart man!
@standback23 I'm just saying that Wepner was not a Rocky, at all. He was a very dirty fighter who was outclassed in any way by a slow, out of shape Muhammad Ali. There was no comparison. Rocky gave Creed a good fight, and won the fight. He was the philadelphia slugger and underdog against the flamboyant champion. It was written Frazier-Ali all over. The fight was even called: Fight of the Century. Rocky = Frazier and Marciano, but mainly Frazier.
@michaelyouth "called Fight of the Century"??? Hardly. Rocky was a fill in for another fighter who was unable to fight Creed. In the movie Rocky was depicted as a club fighter with 20 losses and Las Vegas had him as a 50 to 1 underdog in his fight against Creed. The fight took place during the bicentennial year (1976) but it wasn't called Fight of the Century. Rocky was a huge underdog and unknown , he even told Adrian he just wanted to last 15 rounds. Frazier was not an unknown.
@standback23 I know, but Rocky is not based on Wepner. Frazier helped Stallone. He gave him the idea of pounding the meat, and running the steps (Frazier actually pounded meat as training). I think Stallone is a fraud for taking almost everything out of Ali's life, Frazier's, Chuvalo's, Marciano's and even Tyson's life. I mean Apollo Creed was Muhammad Ali written all over.. Thats not original at all.
I love at 2:16 when Rocky collapses into his trainers arms. I don't really know why, but it really gets to me. He gave his all and finally won, collapsing into his trainers arms with sheer exhaustion.
I should have a guy with a radio come to all my fights, that way, every time I win the guy plays the theme song 2:46, then, I can give him an epic hug 2:49 Rocky, you have the all the right ideas thumbs up if you agree
@RIPROKU Pretty sad. This is basically Joe Frazier - Muhammad Ali. Ali, whipping on Frazier with his gorgeous style, while Frazier refuses to go down, and get's him back with his style as a slugger. Apollo is based on Ali, and Rocky is based on Frazier. I used to love Rocky, but Stallone is a fraud. He almost took everything from real boxing. Every great scene is taken from real boxing, which is the true inspiration., this is a joke.
@michaelyouth Rocky was based on the Chuck Wepner vs. Muhammad Ali fight. ESPN aired a documentary a couple of months ago titled "The Real Rocky" that explains all of this.
@standback23 It was not based on that fight. Wepner rabit punched Ali all night long. He didn't even knock him down. Ali had all rounds and gave Wepner a whopping. Wepner could do nothing and was a disgrace. Joe Frazier was the one running the steps of Philadelphia and the philadelphia underdog, going up against the flamboyant (ex) champion. Frazier pounded the meat. Stallone used almost every good scene in all rocky's from Ali's life, or Frazier's life, even Tyson's life wasu sed.
@michaelyouth Please watch on You Tube "The Rocky Story by Sly Stallone Part 1 of 4". In this video at the 3:18 mark, Stallone himself states that the Wepner vs. Ali fight was the inspiration for the Rocky movie. He basically wrote the whole script to Rocky in just a few days right after he viewed the Wepner vs. Ali fight. In this video you will also see Wepner knock down Ali.
@standback23 Thefight was not based on the Wepner - Ali fight. Wepner could do nothing and showed no skill or no class. Wepner did not even knock Ali down. He pushed Ali down, after he stepped on his foot. There was never even a contest. Not even a knock down.Joe Frazier, who made a cameo in the movie, helped Stallone a bit out, with some idea's. Frazier pounded the meat, and ran the steps.. Rocky is based on Chuvalo, Marciano, Frazier.. Wepner was nowhere near of a classy fighter
Man I done seen all the Rocky movies atleast 20 times a piece. I have all the movies on DVD and yet everytime it comes on TV I still cant change the channel.
@thetruegladiator yeah I bet it did because I remember the Rocky series while i was growing up and watching them when I was a kid, to an Italian kid who grew up watching the Rocky movies, that character was an inspiration to every Italian kid who strived to go the distance
you have to applaud carl weathers acting ....god damn it would you like to fight creed....ultimate condition lightening speed i dont think human kind can be beter fitness wise?
@tily1974 Carl Weathers is a tremendous actor. The character & name Rocky will eternally be associated with Sly, but Carl did a great job. He is very convincing & some may say that because his character was the "bad" one, and he was killed off, he didn't get FULL recognition for his skill. All in all, he had the fame, but his acting skills are very good. Those very familiar faced side actors that make the usual rounds can act better than some A-listers. Get in & assume ANY role in that second.
This film - will stand the test of time ... why ? because at its core its about the human spirit - and striving against the odds. The Soundtrack is probably the best ever written for any movie - and that goes for the whole series of films. One of the best cinema momemts of all time. Still brings a tear to my eye at the end when the music kicks in and you hear the commentator shout "rocky balboa has shocked the world"..... magic !
My favourite movie...grit and determination cannot deter you from achieving what seems to be,first impossible then improbable and finally gettable...:)
poor Duke - "STAY AWAY FROM HIM! DONT PUNCH WITH HIM!" Appolo had Rocky beat on all the cards going into the 15th, all he had to do was stay away. but he was so pissed he didnt beat him in the first fight ("I won the fight, but i didnt beat him!") he had to do everything he could to prove he was the superior fighter. Kudos to Appolo for giving it everything he had and believed in, even if it did cost him his championship. he did accept that Rocky was the better fighter.
@1xDannyHey1x The actor who played Gazzo, Joe Spinell, was a close friend of Sylvester Stallone during Stallone's early acting career. He even helped Stallone financially during the pre-Rocky days. The pair had a falling out after Rocky II, and that is why Gazzo's character disappears. Apparently, as Stallone became more popular, he ditched some of his old friends. I learned this from a DVD documentary on the life of Joe Spinell, who starred in the great 1981 slasher film "Maniac."
@1xDannyHey1x Also, in terms of the films, it makes sense that Rocky no longer has a relationship with Gazzo. After becoming the Heavyweight Champ, Rocky naturally ascends from the Philadelphia underworld.
@aleejacopo lol because if they keep their arms up then it would be too easy...also in ALL the rocky movies just 1 of those hits would right away put u to sleep, or at least knock you out of the match...but of course it isnt very fun to watch so they got like 10000 hitpoints - but in real they would go out like a light...everyone would.
@zephranna01 Couldn't agree more! As much as I love all the other films (I don't consider 2 my favorite), the count sequence has to be up there as one of the most brilliantly suspenseful moments in the history of cinema. While the ends of the other fights are exhilarating in watching Rocky about to overtake his opponent, they don't compare to this. Two champions with incredible heart, battling to the point of collapse, and it all comes down to who can will themselves up, one last time.
I seem to remember in Part III there being a scene in which Mickey told Rocky,"You ain't been hungry ever since you won that title" or something like that.In a way he was right because after his two wars with Creed the competition just didn't measure up until Clubber Lang.
I love the double count scene. But as much as it pains me to say this, the final round up until that point just looks silly. You would never see two heavyweight fighters connect on such wild desperate swings with no regard for guarding against these shots. Just does not seem to resemble professional boxing of any era. Apollo holds on to the ropes to stay standing with his right and swings as wildly as any human being can, and connects, with his left. Stuff that just wouldn't happen.
Superman can't really fly, there is no Santa Claus, and Rocky Balboa is not a real man. These are things that, I hope, every person over 10 years of age knows. The Rocky Franchise is one of the most inspirational movie franchises ever produced, and if it takes me having to tell idiots like you that its "just a movie" to get you to realize how, why, and when this movie was made, I will.
Get over yourself dude. You didn't strike oil. Everybody knows the fight scenes are exaggerated.
@TFTigeressFilms ...bro, that's exactly how I would rank them too. Rocky II was always my favorite, even though the first may technically be the better movie.
Not so much when he wins, but his speech when he tells Adrian he finally did it, I lose. Yes you did, Rocky. Yes you did!

the million dollar question. What happened to gazzo? that character just got scrapped after this. did he get killed by that scumbag buddy?
1xDannyHey1x 7 months ago
@1xDannyHey1x The actor who played Gazzo, Joe Spinell, was a close friend of Sylvester Stallone during Stallone's early acting career. He even helped Stallone financially during the pre-Rocky days. The pair had a falling out after Rocky II, and that is why Gazzo's character disappears. Apparently, as Stallone became more popular, he ditched some of his old friends. I learned this from a DVD documentary on the life of Joe Spinell, who starred in the great 1981 slasher film "Maniac."

@primerodimus1 Sounds a bit like how Paulie felt at the start of 3
OjideaguMusic 6 months ago
@primerodimus1 he was also the godfather of Stallone's oldest son Sage who played Rocky Jr in Rocky V and Vincent in Daylight
TheIronwarrior74 5 months ago
@1xDannyHey1x Also, in terms of the films, it makes sense that Rocky no longer has a relationship with Gazzo. After becoming the Heavyweight Champ, Rocky naturally ascends from the Philadelphia underworld.

I dont get why they never keep their fvcking arms up, they like getting punched right in the face
aleejacopo 8 months ago
@aleejacopo ...I'm not a boxer, but I'd imagine that after 15 rounds their arms are pretty tired and are almost impossible to hold up.
jstarks123 7 months ago
@aleejacopo lol because if they keep their arms up then it would be too easy...also in ALL the rocky movies just 1 of those hits would right away put u to sleep, or at least knock you out of the match...but of course it isnt very fun to watch so they got like 10000 hitpoints - but in real they would go out like a light...everyone would.

I swear Rocky fights always turns into fighting for real.

Two champions with incredible heart, battling to the point of collapse, and it all comes down to who can will themselves up, one last time.

say what you want about clubber and drago, apollo is the toughest badass rocky has fought.
TheAlmightyAss 8 months ago
@TheAlmightyAss thats why drago killed him?
MoarteaMG 8 months ago
@MoarteaMG because he was cheating on steroids and apollo was like 90 years old
TheAlmightyAss 8 months ago
@TheAlmightyAss actually he was like 50 :P
MoarteaMG 8 months ago
@TheAlmightyAss He certainly was a much better opponent. I thought that it was outstanding that he came over and held Rocky's arm up after the fight.
lionel21000 7 months ago

@billny33
