  • It will slow the drying but the oil may corrupt the finish you put on the bowl later.

  • Can you put oil on the wood to stop the cracking

  • how long does the term green go for a bowl blank or pen blank? would a falle tree thats been down for 6 or 8 months be considered dry enough to turn?

  • @Milby20289394bc it depends on the wood and the area you live in but for a pen blank it shouldnt take but a couple months.... hope that helped

  • @Milby20289394bc It shouldn't take but a couple of months ONCE YOU'VE SAWN IT INTO PEN BLANKS. I wouldn't consider wood in log form from a fallen tree to be dry enough

    for a pen blank right out of the log. Cut if up first into 1X1 blanks. If you turn a pen blank from wood that isn't dry, it will split as the wood shrinks against the rigid brass tube.
