@Milby20289394bc It shouldn't take but a couple of months ONCE YOU'VE SAWN IT INTO PEN BLANKS. I wouldn't consider wood in log form from a fallen tree to be dry enough
for a pen blank right out of the log. Cut if up first into 1X1 blanks. If you turn a pen blank from wood that isn't dry, it will split as the wood shrinks against the rigid brass tube.
It will slow the drying but the oil may corrupt the finish you put on the bowl later.

how long does the term green go for a bowl blank or pen blank? would a falle tree thats been down for 6 or 8 months be considered dry enough to turn?

@Milby20289394bc it depends on the wood and the area you live in but for a pen blank it shouldnt take but a couple months.... hope that helped

Wood should be considered green until it is processed.
