Chewy, you have no idea what back in the day truly means. Silent count offs(both to start and smooth transition), no overuse of props, actual energy within the shows, battery not using rimshots every few seconds, tradition, discipline, and watching the DMs. Im proud to say that I know what its like to be with 150+, cramped, and playing ff in the old band room. This is all with battery and pit in the same room with us. I may be old, but I appreciate what I had, no matter what it was.
The shows have gotten steadily worse in creativity. Had some of you been in band back in the days of Pipe Dreams and even Beautiful Mind, you'd be shocked at how different it was. We were motivated and had reason to be. It's hard to be motivated nowadays when the directors themselves don't even write anything. Our shows are now written by the same guy who writes shows for other bands as well. It's not bernings fault. He is a good director...he is probably tired of it. God knows I would be.
Ok look, I was in band back in the days where berning wrote everything. some of you obviously have no idea how things are done now. None of our directors do anything but direct what's handed to them. Tim Fairbanks writes the show and the music is no longer written by our directors either.
Well people need to change their mentality too. Lets stop hoping for a better season and lets starting making one. We (students) could have the greatest season that the marching band has ever had. All is it takes is the right kind of attitude from people. Thats what will separate us from being a good band and being a great band. It takes a different kind of mentality to make a band great
EXACTLY!. this is gonna be my third year too and we have a good show to work with so lets make something happen. If we were pushed like how james pushes percussion we would be doing work. haha. never the less now that we have a change in section leaders and what not i think alot of us are on the same page. so im looking forward to a good year.
@Beney90 haha. definitely! my best friend did marimba in percussion for 'speak up' this year. they did amazing! :D who are you, by the way? haha. we're in the same band.
Everyone needs to stop crying about how we were soo much better then. Our program is just as good as its always been. our music is fine. parker is great at writing it. if ppl care soo much then they would work harder to try and make our show better. cuz there wasn't alot of effort this year. (2009).
@Beney90 I agree with your statement. Going into Color Guard with this band for the third year, I feel like we DO need to step it up a lot. We're all just getting a bit lazy. Not technically 'lazy', but we always say about how we wish we were all better, but the band doesn't make any effort. And believe me, there are people in the Guard like that too. I feel that the directors need to push us a lot more.
@Beney90 well the sad part ben, is that it is true. we were better then, we did get first place and win a bunch of programs... Now, i mean come on... The 80s show was.... just wtf... Not that great. Hopfully Angels will make everything better....
my speakers dont work on my computer. but i watch the first movement and i could like hear it in my head. lol wierd i know. :) and the horn soloists.. they were amazingg. i miss them.
I love, love, love this show ! I wish I would have been in 9th grade that year instead of 8th. :( Why can't our band/Guard be like that again? This doesn't even seem like the same school.
this was absolutely the BEST show ever! i definately miss our guard from that year, because it just wasnt the same after this season. but i loved performing this show :) best freshman year experience of my life!
I miss Bells and Whistles!!! everything, the Park and Blow the L of death, the Ferris Wheel of Doom, the Pods! 3rd movement! Frogger with the guard! EVERYTHING!!! it was amazing!!!
