We can blame political voting all we won't... but jeese have we had some TERRIBLE songs over the last 10 years. If we send good people, with good songs we surely should do better. Why can't we manage that?
Andy Abraham really did not deserve to become joint last, his song was OK! Boring, but not 'nil point' worthy.
conveniently 2008 was the point where Germany and the UK (Who both finance Eurovision) complained. How convenient that Germany won in 2010 and the UK 5th in 2009 + a favourite to win in 2011, I doubt if we would win, we'll do alright I guess, Blue have the advantage of being known in Europe.
Maybe its just us being very, very, bad sports, idk.
whats wrong with 2002 jessica garlic did get 3rd that year im pretty sure she had the best result out of all then noughties floowed by jades 5th place or was it 6ths? any way blue should do ok but i rekon blue this year so they get girls aloud to do it next year? as they are reforming
Where do people get the idea the Javine song was good? It joined the eastern europe sounding bandwagon and had a chorus with a much passion as a wet towel
If Touch my fire had been song by either the following countries greece, azerbiajan, armenia, ukraine, turkey or russia then it would have got a lot more points there was nothing wrong with it didnt deserve 22nd place. 2001, 2003,2004, 2006, 2007 where the worst, why the hell did we send a council estate in 2006 LOL! and 2007 Sooch OMG!
And yet we're still surprised that we keep finishing towards tbe bottom of the table? With the exception of Jessica Garlick, James Fox and Jade, every entry that we have sent to Eurovision over the past 11 years has been genuinely awful. It's not tactical voting, it's not that the countries have formed an alliance against us after the Iraq war, the songs we have sent have been genuinely terrible. We have to send something credible if we expect ever to win again.
im gonna be honest, most of that was absolute crap. But i didnt think 2008 was that bad even though it was a bit cheesy, i think he came last :/ and 2009 was awesome compared to the other shit years :)
This is a decade where, due to higher production values and new countries taking the contest very seriously, the standard of Eurovision entries has improved a great deal.
@15mickey20 - I don't think the standard of entries has got better - in fact I think they've got a lot worse - but that is disguised as you say by the higher production values. I mean, the winners in 2000 and 2002, just off the top of my head, are so banal it's made me almost lose all interest in Eurovision. Or maybe it's just the same old story of the best songs not doing well..?
@LCScampi I don't think the improvement was really felt until the second half of the decade. 2009 and 2010 are my favourite years ever. Of course, it all a matter of tastes, but I loved the 2010 entries of France, Turkey, Germany and Ukraine. Not technically noughties, but you get the idea.
@15mickey20 Yer maybe you're right. It's certainly got a lot better in recent years (though 2003 was an unexpected good year). I think it's still got a long way to go before it gets back to the quality of the 90s though - at least in terms of the songs themselves, rather than the show. I came across the 1993 winner again recently, and it struck me how badly such a simply-staged thing would do today, and yet as a song it's better than any recent winners I think.
2002 Jessica Garlick 2009 Jade Ewen 2004 James Fox (the best of a bad bunch as noted below) 2000 Nicki French 2001 Lindsay Dracass 2008 Andy Abraham 2005 Javine (my favourite ESC year 2005 - all great songs, except for all the big 4 countries and host Ukraine!) 2006 Daz Sampson (cringy) 2007 Scooch (just awful) 2003 Jemini (really really awful!)
I am a Eurovision fan from the UK. Without a doubt, this is the worst decade not just for the UK, but for ANY competing country in the contest. So many awful, awful entries. Makes me ashamed about the BBC's attitude to this contest. For a country of our size and high subscription rate to the EBU, I am disappointed the BBC sent so many poor singers and songs to Eurovision. Jessica Garlick in 2002 was the only entrant I felt was outstanding. Jade Ewen's entry was also of good quality.
the best singer on this video is NICKI FRENCH it is not her fault we came so low down she is one of the best singers and live acts we have ever had it was the choice of song that let us down Nicki can sing anything from fast tracks to ballads and not many of the singers around can calim to be able to do that
UK has got the same problem as we in Sweden have. The songs might be good in their own country, but that ain't good enough in the eurovision. When are people gonna realize this? sigh
@Sablefun That could be one reason, or another reason could be due to the fact we just send a bunch of nobodies in to enter. I mean you never see us entering bands such as Black Sabbath for example? And they're successful not just in the uk.
@Sablefun The diffrence in the UK, no one likes the songs we send. doesnt make sense? we never send artists famous here but after 13 years the BBC have realised that and have sent Blue but there not even popular any more.
@CallumJ230 Unfortunately it seems like swedish proffessionals have given up our national selection to younger or inexperienced artists, leaving us to pick songs which put us in the bottom fifteen. At least this year we're back as the protectors of schlager pop.
Andy Abraham 2008 is about the only reasonably decent song here. The rest are terrible! What is happening to our song entries from the UK, a country that has, and still does, produce some of the most talented writers, musicians and producers the world has ever heard. Time to get rid of the few dead beats who have a strangle hold on it and let some new fresh people have a chance.
I love sitting down for the three hours and watching this song contest (sad person), but yes, the last ten years our entries have not been that brilliant. I don't remember some of these songs!! Obviously they didn't make much of an impact. Having said that, since the contest opened up to lots of more countries there is an awful lot of political voting going on and I don't think we stand a chance any more.
touch my fire sounds alot like hadise i think she was called, the one who represented turkey in 2009 and i think they came fourth so it just shows touch my fire was just entered too early, also i don't think scooch was that bad they were not that good but not hiddious lol
When you watch this wonderful piece, it really makes it quite clear: Our best two entries really did fare well... the rest were tripe and really didnt deserve to do any better than they did. I do love scooch though.
I've never liked 2004, James Fox. I just think its boring. Jemini may have been out of tune, but I remember it (For all the wrong reasons :P)
Javine should have got much higher in 2005, it was a brilliant song.
Why did Scooch's backing singers wear such ridiculously coloured outfits. It puts all the attention on them. They could have at least worn blue and tried to blend in with the group. It's cheesy. but I'll always love Flying the Flag!!!!!
i never realised how bad we did in this decade(apart from 2002 and 2009) i reckon we would have done well if scoochs song had been chosen in the 80s or 90s. Well anyway i hope now with the voting 50/50 we should be looking at really good positions
The Jemini video in all fariness sounds like half of the "... in g major" videos out on youtube. To be fair it's the hosts fault it was out of key with the singing.

lordi are better than any of this shit though. and i hate metal in any form.
1 point even if 2008 2 points touch my fire 2005 3 points hold on to my love 2004 4 points come back 2002 5 points no dream impossible 2001 6 points dont play that song again 2000 7 points flying the flag 2007 8 points teenage life 2006 10 points my time 2009 and the 12 points go to......... cry baby 2003(performance was bad,i know, but what a tune, pure cheese)
Jessica Garlick easily the best here. Great Welsh voice :) I recall I won a radio competion (Radio Wales) in 2002 and won a goodybag of Jessica's CD's and signed posters and stuff. Brilliant !
this is probably the worst decade for the uk in eurovison but simply we only entred 2 good entries. how can we expect to win when we just dont care anymore
Erm not fantastic. Think she was towards the bottom of the table if memory serves. She had points and wasnt last but was nowhere near the top. Nothing is worse than Jemini,
@taliesin142008 The only reason the UK did good that year was the help of the jury votes. Had it just been televoting alone, we would have came 10th place.
When you put it all together like that it truly is shocking, how the hell can anyone complain about block voting when we are sending crap like that anyway?
I have to say DAZ was the most embarrassing, out of the lot.
All these songs sucked. Scooch was probably best only because it reminded me of happy 90s. I would have liked their entry in 2007 if they had had brains enough to choose Big Brovaz!
Scooch were probably most off the mark...at a time when the UK was despised around Europe (still are) and the year when British Airways lost everyone's luggage, "We're flying the flag all over the world for you" probably didn't go down too well!
My top 10 from the 00's (including this years entry) are as follows: 1. 2002 Jessica Garlick 2. 2009 Jade 3. 2001 Lindsay Dracass (purely on voice and performance on night) 4. 2004 James Fox 5. 2006 Daz Sampson 6. 2008 Andy Abraham 7. 2005 Javine (worst entry that year) 8. 2000 Nicki French 9. 2007 Scooch (most cringeworthy year for UK - ever) 10. 2003 Jemini (worst entry that year)
UK! You are the part of big-4 so don't worry about your results. You shared with Ireland the English language monopoly in Eurovision for years (it's a reason for hatred).
You have a good entry (Lloyd Webber is an alive classic) in 2009. This zebra-looking life will show you a white stripe soon just kick its ass :)
Thanks though if im honest I do not think your entry this year is very good. Its my opinion but I find some other countries with much better entries (although I have to say France have the worst entry EVER this year- i almost fell asleep while listening to it!)
is my order.... but i think the top 2 are the only decent ones worth listening too... we've had awful entries recently... Jade has changed that i hope top 10 :)

Thanks though if im honest I do not think your entry this year is very good. Its my opinion but I find some other countries with much better entries (although I have to say France have the worst entry EVER this year- i almost fell asleep while listening to it!)

Our f**king winner is hated by the half of the country. So this year entry is quite adequate in comparsion with previous years. The same about UK.

1st Jade
2nd James Fox
3rd Scooch
4th Jessica Garlick
5th Daz Sampson
6th Jemini
7th Andy Abraham
8th Nicki French
9th Lindsay Dracass
is my order.... but i think the top 2 are the only decent ones worth listening too... we've had awful entries recently... Jade has changed that i hope top 10 :)
