  • thanks for explaining a little about it. will be trying it wed. cant wait !

  • I enjoyed this video, as i am an absinthe drinker, but it really does not have anything to do with the correct preparation of absinthe. Still an excellent video;

  • That really had nothing to do with how to prepare a glass of absinthe so much as him going on and on about how much he is turned on by the stuff.

  • @ofnumbers i noticed that lol

  • You could turn his head upside down?

  • This guy makes me wanna guzzle absinthe everydayy xD

  • MICROPHONE CABLE!!!!!!!!!!

    COME ON NOW!!!!!!!!

  • Some people claim that US absinthe being sold in liquor stores isn't genuine, due to its low thujone content, comment?

  • @MEpianist I'll take a stab at that question. I think most absinthes sold are very low quality. The stuff that Lance Winters is creating is of the highest quality. He started distilling it years before it became legal. The thujone is probably negligible. The concentrations are very low, probably too low to have any effect on your neurotransmitters. Analysis if pre ban absinthes often showed little or no thujone.

The effect is very real when you drink the good stuff.

  • @MEpianist Some morons also claim that all cognac are fake under $150 a bottle. Similar kind of igrorance. Thujone is hyped artificially, and back in the 19th century, no one gave a F about thujone content. Some old absinthes hadn't got any more than U.S. maximum, since – great secret follows – most of the thujone doesn't make it through proper distillation.

  • that didn't help really...

  • he sounds like james hetfield

  • er...so how do i prepare a glass of absinthe

  • SkullFuck13 is full of shit. Seriously.

  • 02:56 that first drink kinda threw him for a loop lol.

  • this guy is VERY cool.

  • i passed my fork lift licence after drinkin a bottle of sebor absinth.. i had attempted the test 3 times sober and failed so the 4 test i just thought fuck it and got on absinth, then passed!

  • I know what your thinking but trust me, u don't wanna click on "the green fairy link"

  • lol...i could say the same thing this guy does about smoking, gettin fucked up on weed...lol, i could easily....this dude just really likes absinthe, not that it's a bad thing..jus don't be too enthralled.

  • I want a sip off that proper glass too!

  • i know its allowed in the amsterdam how about the rest of the europe?

  • So you don't burn the sugar like Johnny Depp in From Hell?

  • @EivomSeb2011 you can, but i guess jus to look cool.

  • @EivomSeb2011 ruins it. (for me at least, and probably any other absinthe connoisseur you ask).

  • interesting guy. he comes across as sincere, intelligent, sure of himself but not rushed, and even caring. someone most people could easily open up and talk to. Bartender SWAG.

  • Lance is such an awesome guy! in person as well

  • I love using absinthe as a tincture for BHO hash oil. The flavors really mesh well together

  • i find heavy drinkers have deep husky voices haha

  • Seananners what are you doing here?

  • @DownstairsB ...cuz he has a beard.

  • In reference to the heading; You pour it in a pint glass and you drink it in one. Good times.

  • I need this here in Japan, who can send me by COD??? I will buy.

  • If you guys want to drink absinthe for the feeling I recommend Brut d' Alambic, I'll tell you right now, It does not have a great taste, but what does at 163 Proof.

  • This makes me sooo damn thirsty

  • What brand of Absinthe would you recommend? And correct me if I'm wrong, but a slow drip of cool water is all that is needed to complete the "ritual"?

  • @Gubru As of today, my favorite brand is Kubler, which is a blanche absinthe. However, unless you live in Quebec, absinthe can not be shipped to Canada.

In any case, yes, a slow drip of ice cold water is all that is needed to complete the ritual. You can add the water over a sugar cube placed on an absinthe spoon, but that is optional and entirely up to the drinker.

  • what is the difference between green and bright blue Absinthe

  • @tsibaenapeos Green absinthe can be obtained without artificial colorants, because it is the chlorophyll the one that gives the green color; or, you can eliminate it, and then you have clear (blanche) absinthe. Any other coloration is artificially made with dyes. Many absintheurs consider artificially colored absinthe to be of inferior quality. If you see a neon green absinthe then it is artificially colored too.

  • for more info on absinthe, watch this documentary: absinthefilm. c o m

  • does anyone know what brand he's drinking?

  • @kevinx24 St. George

  • Whats it taste like?

  • @IsUrMomHom3 Like burning liquorice :D

  • the absinthe mythbuster.... just needs a beret

  • I want to experience absinthe with this guy...and hear him describe things to me lol

  • @MerciRayMcKay yeah while im deeply drunk and acting like i care..

  • @elinfiernoentusojos there is no better time

  • What a liar unionrdr is. No arsenic used with absinthe. There is still a lot of myths and bullshit people make up. What get you messed up with absinthe is it's high alcohol content. It is traditionally drank by mixing with water (sugar is optional if you like it sweeter) which makes it cloudy, called louche.

  • never tried it, now I want to

  • Where does one get a Absinthe Fountain?

  • why its clear in the bottle and jar but cloudy in the glass?

    he added sugar or water?

  • @demlikposet Water. No sugar.

  • IMO,the "apt descriptor" you mention is what we used to call a "body buzz",since it's absorbed through the stomach, rather than the lungs. And what that guy found was,pre-ban,was 200PPM,the modern being 10-15PPM. I read it too. In other words,a lot more psycho-active. Therajones produce a hallucinogenic experience do to their toxicity. Like magic mushrooms & arsenic that occurs in them naturally. Just read James Mabricks diary for a description of an arsenic addict.

  • @unionrdr Also what people don't understand is that they also use to drip Arsenic on the sugar cube before you light it. I have tried it this way with Absinthe from Progue. I'm not sure of the PPM levels but I know it was very high plus with the Arsenic (Do not try this it can kill you) was very intense. I didn't remember anything for two days....

  • yeah, no doubt you can deffinately focus and think very clearly on absinthe even at drunk stages (only about 3 or 4 servings/oz) speaking of, i was pretty drunk last night at a bar in town drinking absinthe but i could hold a somewhat "sober" concentration.i also find the effect to be almost dreamlike and of course you get the giggles too. haha! i absolutely love absinthe. flavor wise, (ive been drinking mansinthe)it is so unique and has so much character, smells included.its truly remarkable!

  • Great video! just curious why didnt you drip the water over a sugar cube? and does St. George make its own absinthe and where can i buy it?

  • is this made sweeter than the traditional absinthe served with sugar?

  • So is absinthe available at any liquor store? if so, what brand should i purchase?

  • @Oubound898 In canada theres a brand called Taboo

  • @longboatm

    sorry but it's like shit

  • Who makes that absinthe?

  • @jr2821 that guy does.

  • this man is very articulate. I could listen to him hours on this topic.

  • I drank it in the states before it was made legal again. I think the fact that it was illegal added to the mystery and the enjoyment of the drink. I would rather it still was illegal that way I felt like I was doing something wrong when I drank it.

  • @jfeltes oh, grow up wannabe rebel

  • @aquababie07 Hate those wannabes! hahahahaha

  • i must try this before i die

  • Goes down so smooth, can tell by the facial expression at 2:50

  • @Mugetsu37

Hahahaha I had to watch a couple of times cause it was too funny. So not a smooth drink facial expression haha.

  • He reminds me of the cooler more sexier version of the guy from mythbusters

  • @weemann45 FAGGOT

  • @weemann45 yeah so do I. :)

  • @weemann45 you nailed it on the head. this guys beard actually made me decide i will one day shave my head and grow a beard and look nothing like i once did.

  • @weemann45 what would he remind you of if he sat on your face and farted?

  • @niteholler I...I Don't understand...

  • Love Reign O'er Me,

  • He looks like he is about to gag at 2:54 when he takes the first sip... haha! good shit

  • @USMCddSemperFi

sure bud, before you comment on a bartender, reach the legal drinking age first, or at least try the liquor

  • I've been over the legal drinking age for years now , Bud. I wish i could say i wasn't of legal age. I've tried many varieties of Absinthe, including the one blended up from St. George spirits/ Hangar One in Cali after i completed bootcamp back in the day. So before you try to sound all intelligent, atleast know who the hell you are talking to, bud.

  • @USMCddSemperFi hey buddy, by years do you mean 2 years? Bootcamp back in the day? are you trying to be tough over the net? that's cool anyway, it really is good shit like your first comment when you're drinking chick drinks in cali.

  • @thatcutehughes 2 months later? really? your name says enough "bud". your attempt was extremely weak and i can't understand why you would even post that. Joke really is on you. Save your embarrassment and shut your fucking trap.

  • hapsburg is a good brand of absinth?

  • @Tinhomelito

nope it´s def. not, maybe just good to blow your mind of because of the high alcohol percentage ^^

here is some really good ones:

    suisse verte

    opaline

    duplais verte

    new orleans absinth

    caselli

  • La fees is not a great absinthe but I would say a great started absinthe. until you devlope your palet dont go out buying expesive bottels just yet. Absinthe is like a rose to a un edjucated eye they all look beautiful, but in the case of this drink it more complex than hype it comes down to aromas and taste there is many levels of rating a absinthe from first open to letting it breath to the method of dripping and sugar or no sugar many absinthes out there are crap and should be about 19 bucks

  • he has the voice of an angel. i love the way this guy talks.

  • I just got a bottle of la fee from france cannot wait to try it excellent video your not an uneducated moron like everybody else's explanations on youtube. 10/10

  • lol after the guy drank it he made a face but tried to keep composure

  • this is what I want for my bday

  • Wow how classy and interesting

  • Absinthe Roquette 1797.....just amazing...

  • Yeah! Watching a Guinness settle! That's my kind of beer.

  • Where can i get that water tap fountain or whatever you call it cos can't make a perfect absinthe without it?Cheers

  • has anyone tried the mansinth absinth?

  • O_O wtf???

  • does anyone know the brand he is drinking in this video?

  • @diabolicalheaven He makes his own, so I'm sure if you googled his name and absinthe you would be able to find the brand he distills.

  • He is drinking absinthe from St. George Spirits distillery in

Alameda, CA. You can purchase it at the distillery or you can go to their website and find links to online liquor stores that sell and ship it. I got mine from Drink Up NY and the service and price were excellent. The absinthe itself is very good. I mix a little ice cold water and sugar in it and it is not only quite palatable but gives a really nice buzz, plus there is the cachet of drinking something formerly forbidden. Good luck..

  • very nice.. explanation. btw lucid is a crap absinthe, you need the actual European absinthe for the thujone level. but you can buy it online from Europe.

  • @Ara7ius Lucid is european absinthe, it is distilled in France, and made by the same man who produces the best absinthe on the market, so figure out your facts my son.

  • I have only tried the Lucid brand, and I have been studying this stuff like crazy. I am sure I would like a superior brand, because this stuff I am drinking is considered inferior by many.

  • Lucid isn't bad at all, really. It's probably the best middle shelf Absinthe I've had, alongside Kübler.

  • Great logic, thank you for demistifying this issue!

  • your dads talking crap....one of the ingredients is called wormwood...but its nothing like what you just described..

  • are you literally retarded?

  • i wanna drink this when i turn 18 and i understand that im not going to see things, but the feelings it gives you sounds interesting

  • just drink it now dude. im 14

  • il be 14 in feb but i cant hold a drink lol

  • LOL im sure ur aloud 1 beer infront of ur mum? my mum lets some SOME times.. i drink when i go clubbing really... or just with friends.. lke vodka or whiskey.. i use to just drink beer and then stoped beacause it was too expensicve.. where i live.. i can buy 350 ml of vodka for like 4 usd and whiskey for the same price.. but when i drink whiskey i use the expensive brands. :S i cant handle cheap whiskey

  • @Venddenta

eat before drinking ...and best advice drinking a lopt of fucking alcohol and puke everything you can ...that's how most of us hold our liquor(or spirit)

  • I am going to get my sister to get me some.I have to try it,but which is the better method fire or water?

  • dude....... its not gonna make u trip! and fire and water dosnt make a diffrence

  • @crazywanch101 From what I've heard, water by a long shot.

  • @danlfcira

Generally you're cheating yourself of at least 90% of the taste, since the alcohol burns and numbs the tongue

    @toonarmi1901

Try looking for Un Emile 65. Thats a good absinthe. But generally google a bit, since i know little of the birttish market

    @OtaraPiMp

No. The effect of absinthe is high exagerated, and the only thing you might experience is a bit of a freshness and more clearheaded feel than with other alcohols. And the make your own absinthe kits are to be avoided like plague

  • Can you get the same effects from the absinthe essence you put into home distilled alcohol? so long as the alcohol percentage is the same as real absinthe?

  • whats a good absinthe i can buy in the uk?

  • Is it bad to drink absinthe without the added water??

  • no not f its a good quality absinth but the piss you get in bars these days is not good to drink without sugar and water

  • I dont have knowlege of absinthe or any other drinks tbh i just like to drink lol it was black absinthe from spain! I take it thats very poor quality lol

  • this bartender knows his stuff.

he could probably show up some science peops

  • @ONEyeMarco

he's no bartender, this is the creator of St. George Spirits Absinthe, and he's awesome as well as his product

  • nice, i feel like a nice absinthe right now

  • @ONEyeMarco

Yeah, Lance is awesome like that. He's a real cool guy.

  • @ONEyeMarco he's a brewer of absinthe not a barmen so he drinks it because he loves it ;)

  • @ONEyeMarco

He's a distiller. He is a "science peop". He likely has a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

  • @ONEyeMarco I think judging by the Chemist table that perhaps he is a professor.

  • @LunasCraincloud

    distiller

  • lol light the sugar, since when do people do this ridiculous thing.

  • ಠ_ಠ

  • I truly wish people stop burning the sugar cube it taste awful!!!!!

  • i hate Liquorice with a passion which put me off jaguarmister and absinthe but u just gotta keep trying absinthe, my first shot of it was horrible but now it taste so good...i still hate Liquorice tho lol, when i go out and the bar sells absinthe i do a shot of it then do a jaguarbomb as a chaser...wait a few minutes and u'll feel it kick

  • jaguarmister lol i invisioned a jaguar in a suit xD

  • lol

  • why would you do a shot of absinthe? such a waste. it's meant to be drank slowly, so you can savor each unique flavor

  • i havnt found a bar in australia that does the proper absinthe drink u can only get the shot and thats hard enough to fin, only found 4 places that do the shot and i dont think its the proper stuff anyway

  • can you buy bottles o absinthe in a liquor store in australia? if so, buy any absinthe that comes from spain or france. or else buy Lucid if possible, and do the absinthe ritual yourself. its worth the money

  • yeah u can quite hard to find but i kno a bottle o, yeah im gonna buy it when i get paid next nd try it the correct way

  • I know right? Why do people do shots?Sipping is more flavorful and safer.

  • Liquorice, and especially black liquorice, is just absolutely digusting to me. It is so vile and wretched I just can't stand to even smell for very long. Gross. However, I would really like to try a good quality absinthe. Even just to sip a tiny bit of it just to know what it actually tastes like. Plus, I think my sister would shame me to death if I didn't at least try it.

  • Black licorice is something that anise can be compared to, but it's not the same thing. A good absinthe has an interplay several different flavors. Once you've really opened yourself up to it you'll find that it doesn't taste like licorice.

  • I don't what anise is, but I'm sure that absinthe, even really bad absinthe doesn't just taste like black liquorice. I've just always heard that the 'basic' taste of it is very much like black liquorice. But if it just tasted like black liquorice, I seriously dout that it would have remained so popular and intriguing for so long. So, I'm sure it's more complex than that. I doubt I'd be able to enjoy it if it tasted even a tiny bit like black liquorice, but I'd still like to try it.

  • boobies inspire me

  • as do boobies to i =]

  • what brand is he using there?

  • Its the St. George Spirits brand, don't know the exact name, but its distilled by St. George Spirts. I'm no absinth expert, but I've heard good things about the verte variety produced by pacific distillery.

  • I love strong spicy Root Beer, Ginger Beer, Scotch Whiskey, Wine, Stouts and BarleyWines.

Do you think I would like Absinthe?

  • Depends. Do you like licorice?

For heaven's sake, just try it!

  • He's kind of hot. Oh yeah, absinthe is good too.

  • le tourment vert is what iam drunking now it has a liquorish taste to it i put 3oz in to tea and iam drunking it now

  • Comment removed

  • god damn....We don't even prepare it here....we just take it pure (shots) or with vodka and lemmon

  • yeah nc that u are a strong drinker but do u believe that i wanted to learn if u do drink it pure or not???

  • lol...you didn't understand. I'm not being egocentric (not everyone on Youtube is). I'm just sayn' that no one arround the world (unless you are a 60 year old CEO) drinks it prepared. It's just strange how most people say: "they drink it like that in Europe" but...no one does

  • me and my friends are all 18 and have absinthe partys where we enjoy taking the time to prepare our absinthe properly and with the correct 'tools'

  • What does it taste like? I saw a show once, the Host drank Absinthe and he did not liked it... But he prepared it differently. Do they still made it with Wormwood?

  • well bohemian absinthe is a low anise absinthe and has subtle mint and fennel undertones

  • i've tried it myself, like the other's have said there's a hint of fennel. it burns your mouth though (though that was possibly just the high alcohol content).

  • i could say the same thing hes saying about weed

meaning like all the detail and qualities

    LEGALIZE IT!

  • oh and another question...I am from Quebec Canada and our liquor store only provides us with Taboo Absinthe....is it any good?

  • Taboo is good. But I don't think SAQ is equipped to deal with a large order of absinthe.

  • I am getting married in June and I thought about giving a glass of absinthe to all my guests (we're 70),now I'm wondering, since I never had Absinthe, can you :

    1-prepare it in advance?

2-can people mix it with other type of alcohol? for example, they drink their Absinthe and then have a beer.

3-like I said I never prepared Absinthe and I am not sure if my guest,my husband or even I will like it,so can you make it in smaller portion, like tasting portions?

  • Since absinthe is a strong, relatively bitter liqour I think it should be drunk at the end of the evening, to not ruin the flavors of food or other drinks. Sort of like whiskey or cognac.

  • brilliant video. your obviously a very intellectual person. i am sick of my college butties choosing quantity over quality. keystone doesn't do it for me.

  • thats all well and good sir, but as far as I'm concerned it tastes nasty.

  • The painting "starry night" in this video by vincent van gogh is not a good example...

as he was high on opium when he painted it. good vid tho.

  • love it

  • Had some the other day. You get buzzed without the downer. I would say that's true of most spirits though, not particular to absinthe.

  • it sounds exactly what pot does, its a shame pot is illegal even though alcohal is even more unhealthy for you and dissorients you even more.. the government doesnt care what we want it's obvious

  • Well there is a lot of buzz about marijuana being legalized.

I actually think this is negative, because the government is going to insist on heavy regulations. They will do to marijuana what they did to tobacco. Strip out all the quality and load it with deadly chemicals.

Better than attempting to make government work in our interests, we should just abandon the idea all together. Enforced social order has proven to be unnecessary and destructive.

The history of absinthe is evidence.

  • wow i never thought of what the government would do to weed if they legalized it, that is a very good point of view, im glad i read your comment

  • He reminds me of Bernard Mickey Wrangle.

  • This guy is such an articulate beardy face!

I digress, I'm high on absinthe
