  • lol this game. I remember trying to decide if I wanted this or Resident Evil: Code Veronica in the store. I bought Code Veronica. Now I'm happy I did! XD

  • Only sold 4 copies?!?

  • One of my all time favorite games. Give it some slack, man.

  • The Japanese version (which is the one I played) had a much better fixed camera system than the US 3rd person version. Wonder why they changed it?

  • I remember seeing the previews for this game, thinking the graphics looked amazing lol

  • the developer of dead space must have liked this game, the monster design looks very similar

  • Yes this game was the best, what times.

  • One of my favorite games as a kid

  • THIS GAME GOES BEYOND THE STANDARD

  • this makes me wanna play it :)

  • 1 dollar for this game? damn

  • Constantly keeps saying "this game reminds me of Deadspace" shouldn't it be the other way round seeing as this came out first?

  • @HenryFinn No. He experienced Dead Space first, hence playing something similar in design to it afterwards would remind him of that, regardless of what time the games were released.

  • I agree with you Hacker, you have to play this games like you were on 1999. It's like saying that Castlevania SON doesn't feel really fluid when compared to Trine as 2D games or the first Mortal Kombat with the last one.

  • Back on those games and coming from playing games on N64 and PSone that game was cool and actually Dead Space copied the monsters and dismemberment elements from this game dude. So no Blue Stinger probably no Dead Space. On 1999 this game and Shadowman were my first 2 gamea for the Dreamcast.

  • The game is awesome what sucks is the person reviewing it.That game is awesome for back then you can´t compare it with games of now.See the game as like u been in that time not this time and u will see the true beauty of the game.

  • hes right... even back then it was just ok... i was 11 at the time.... great story but the gameplay is just all wack.... I spent $4.99 for mine 3years ago at movie trading CO. but I will say at the time of the dreamcast it was a cool game, never seen anything like it at the time when it comes to the graphics.... but yeah gameroom know what hes talking about! :-)

  • I am playing this now lol its one of my best dc games i love it

  • check out Shadows of the Damned , your gonna like it ;)

  • How do you make a suvival horror game with a Christmas theme? good god this game is like a Ed Wood movie

  • I got this game new so who where the other 3 ? This game was fun, not the best sirius title but a fun title

  • I thought it was a great game! But I gotta agree with this guy, the controls are a bit stiff, and can be slippery at times.

  • My god that music is out of place. That being said that music just became unbearably annoying after just watching this review. I can only wonder how painful that music can be for playing the game for hours.

  • 3:33-3:51

probably because the humans are infected

  • What a terrible review. I love you guys, but this was piss poor. You reviewed the game by current standards. You didn't review it by 1999 standards. You failed to understand that it was meant to be silly, not dead serious.

  • @s235343

It sucked by 1999 standards too, but it was still a fun game overall if you could overlook all its flaws.

  • i'll get this for free -evil lol-

  • This game was the shit when it came out as a launch title for the dreamcast. The graphics were really impressive back then so was Sonic.

  • As far as I remember this game was good, probably not up to Resident Evil's quality but still fun and playable, so I have to disagree with Mark in this one.

  • they sold 500000 copies of dis game

  • Railgun is ownage I had the game too

  • Better than Carrier?

I dont agree at all, Blue Stinger was fun it still is, I play it from time to time...buy a Hassy, whip out my Stun Rod, and go to town.

  • 'practically unplayable' you exaggerate massively.

I agree about the voice acting though, they're all in very strange, corny tones, much like your own.

  • It's an alright game, I got my copy for $5

Also the stamp rally is a reference to a dreamcast game called PenPen Tricelon.

  • Make that sold 5 copies!! LOL..I also own the game. This game was a good game

in it time..I beat it..camera was an problem.I would play this game again.

  • this si one of the best games i have ever played and the only reason why you're giving this a bad rating is because you suck at playing it and have no respect for classic games

  • I'll never forget the christmas level they had such memories.

  • DEAD SPACE IS A BLATANT RIPOFF OF RUN LIKE HELL FOR THE PS2.

this game is friggin awesome, i beat it back in the dreamcast day and beat it again like 4 months ago still a beast game, controls are a lil rough but not that bad

  • @Pullenum - Yup your right, Dead Space is a ripoff of RLH. Cause everyone who played Run Like Hell (All fucking 5 of us) knows for a FACT that game included bodily dismemberment, zero G environments, and Stasis. Of course, that last sentence was complete bullshit, and RLH, was at best, an average survival horror game that had been in development hell for years (and it fucking shows).

Was your comment a reply to another or something. What the fuck does it have to do with Blue Stinger anyways?

  • @lllDevilbytheDeedlll do you get on videos to look up comments and talk shit or do you actually watch the videos? Dead Space is mentioned in the video, I put that out there b/c there are a lot of people who haven't played RLH and should know that the dead space concept is a ripoff of RLH, adding a few things doesn't make it less of a ripoff, and you'd hope that with that much of a time different between both games that they would have fixed issues not to mention its on next gen systems

  • @Pullenum - Shit dude, I just now checked my mail, read your reply AND my original comment from last night, and I've got to say sorry dude and I seriously feel like an absolute fucking idiot. (Alcohol and internet anonymity do not make a good combination....)

I was drinking at the time and I fucked up, plain and simple, and I'm sorry.

  • @lllDevilbytheDeedlll

lol no problem, much credit given for not being like a lot of other ass clowns out there

  • this was actually the very first dreamcast game i ever played. i actually pre-ordered sonic adventure with my dreamcast and even took it home with me thinking that it was going be my first dc game but it didnt work at all. so i had to go back to eb and it turns out all the copies of sonic adventure in the store were actually the japanese version so they let me choose any other game. im not a huge fighting game fan so i passed on soul calibur and ended up choosing blue stinger. an ok game imo.

  • I liked this game, it was cool

  • The voice actor in the begining sounds like a girl in anime somehere i know.

  • Not really a review. Just you being ultra critical of a game you compare to DeadSpace. :/

  • @IPunchfish People are critical in reviews. That's kind of the point. To critique the game.

  • D2 is better than this game.

  • it actually sold well as a launch game an for the first weeks this was the only game available at initial launch as there was a "shortage" hmmm of the other games...i think Sega said to developers hey we need a 3-d game showing some of the graphic power of the DC an also sound...not so much the controls but the camera was bad an it actually was "fixed" for US release...this is such a quirky cheesy game i think real video games should check out just for the quirkeness

  • Why is it set in 2018 if the world is invaded by aliens in 2017?

  • This is one of the first game I bought for my DC. It did suck a bit and I remember wanting to finish it and playing it only because it was the only game i didn't play a hundred times. Carrier is just as bad and just as good as Blue Stinger.

  • "Santa! All I want for Chirstmas is for this music to stop"

  • I thought the girl at the beginning was speaking Japanese at first

  • Damn. That Xmas music. I got stuck and had to listen to it for 2 weeks. When it slows down and speeds up ... ARGGHH!!!

  • What happens it what I presume is the intro looks like what I vaguely remember happening to Serge's dad in Chrono Cross!

The blood effects look soooo bad... >.>

    The music does sound insane...

  • i am lord karnage and i will make your wish come true

(the game song stops) the BJ theme (billy and jimmy) starts

    mark dies :*(

  • God damn i saw this review like 10 times i just come back for some more:(

  • dont need to complete this one

    to know without a shadow

    its complete shit

    ugh

why? when dreamcast has resident evil

  • Don't review a game unless you have fully completed it. It is the mantra of any serious gamer.

  • I'm soooo glad I didn't buy this at launch all them years ago.....

  • Whoa my eyes were broken or something back in 2000 cuz i dont remember the polygons being this big LOL still was a fun game

  • I really liked this game as a kid.

  • I too have a lot of respect for the game room, but i also disagree with him on this title. While it may not hold up against today's standards, as very few games do, I recommend giving this game a spin. It's quirky? Yes, BUT it's fun.

  • @kenbefound i had this back in the day and loved it so much. i played it to the end and was very satisfied.

  • @kenbefound

when this game came out, critics said this game was terrible too

  • @Magikano

I definitely put it in the "so bad it's good" category. There's a crapload of things wrong with the game, but at the end of the day it's entertaining. Definitely wouldn't pay full price for it thought. I bought it in the bargain bin a couple years after it came out for like 7 bucks and got a lot more out of it than I thought I would.

  • @kenbefound

Agreed. I'd never say it's a great game by any stretch, but I enjoyed the hell out of it when I bought one of the only 4 copies sold. Definitely had it's share of flaws, but it still had a lot of potential that kept it going. Best 7 bucks I ever spent on a game, and it had only been out a couple years at that point.

  • aww so Necromorphs Shop for Christmas Too? XD

  • this game used to scare the shit outta me when i was a kid

  • Those cutscenes are worse than a PS1.

  • holy crap it is dead space.

  • The game is cheesy, agreed. But its not so bad as you say.

You said the controls are disgusting, but no: the CAMERA in AMERICAN VERSION is the problem. I bought recently the japanese version. Only the captions are in japanese. Voices and menu options are the same of US version. The camera is a kind off third person style. Buggy sometimes, but playable.

    p.s: just a suggestion, but unless the game is too awful, you should finish it before post a review;

p.p.s: i paid almost what u said, nice shot

  • i rather enjoyed this game...

  • Published by Activision!?!?!??! WHy not make Black Ops back then!!?!?!?

  • review the shenmue games the best games ever made

  • Comment removed

  • Memories of me being stuck in Japanese on this.

  • i love this game

  • This was the best game ever when i was little. And still is, but c'mon the controls are not that repetitive. I mean we almost had a Blue Stinger 2, but the director suddenly died and it was never made.

  • Im just gonna say this Sega fans stick together... poor unfortunate Sega fanboys

  • this game is compared illbleed i mean hassy was in illbleed and here and the bull stinger from illbleed is close

  • If you'r saying this is good grpahics go and play Headhunter, MSR or Virtua Tennis

  • In Japan it had a fixed camera, like Resident Evil. They decided to make it like Tomb Raider for the Western version.

  • Oh man I loved this game...I ve finished all Resident Evils at that time, so I had to play BLUE STINGER-a good oldschool action adventure... it was quite hard at the end but it was worth playing it so far because of the good story. PS: the 2nd half of the game is MUCH better than the first one-also the music score... ;)

  • i remember i bought this game used on an eb store it was not that bad the control where kinda bad but hey you could get used to them it was an ok game.

  • Man I was to totally love this game, until I got stuck at a point and couldn't complete it. Oh well. I suppose I didn't realise the crapness of the controls etc. cos I was probably about 9 years old when I played it! :)

  • i LOL'd ats soon as I watched the start....haha

  • I have this game, but I never got very far in it. It got too frustrating. I hear the Japanese version is better, but I wouldn't know.

  • I bought 1 of the 4 copies! Jealous?

  • @sngoku

You're one of the other 4? Nice to meet you!

  • @crazymiles how ya dewin?

  • Blue Stinger wasn't the best game, but it's controls are by far the last thing that ruins the game. The way the camera depicted in the video is something that you really have to negatively focus on in order to make it look bad.

In all of my play throughs the camera is never hindering to gameplay or my ability to find things. That would be the job of the atmosphere which constantly startles me into dropping the controller, or the monsters that pop out in confined spaces.

  • they should remake this game, but keeping the cheesy style

  • I actually really liked blue stinger and beat it twice

  • the theme of the game has a certain charm to i so i liked it and still do,underated imo

  • im one of the 4 that own this! I still have it, but it doesnt work anymore....scratched. lol

  • I liked this game and I still have it, but it was so horrible running around as dog xD I died so many times. But stil lwas fun and scary.

  • Wow, this is the first review I've seen grill Blue Stinger into oblivion, in VIDEO form.

  • i was also one of the four

  • Is it just me, or does this look like another Illbleed that tried just a bit too hard to be RE?

  • @CrispyTwister Yeah, I think it's just you :p

Really though, Blue Stinger and Illbleed have next to nothing in common with RE. They're intentionally campy and lighthearted while RE takes itself pretty seriously, and the styles of gameplay are completely different. I don't think either game were trying to be anything like RE at all...

Blue Stinger is actually a lot like Dead Rising on the Xbox 360, I think. Illbleed, well... that game is basically its own weird little genre.

  • I miss the other guy too, it was better when CGR had both of them!

  • the controls aren't bad at all, or clumsy for that matter. the only problems/inconveniences ive seen are crappy camera angles at times, picking up coins, and absolutely terrible swimming. Seriously, this game makes swimming a nightmare, but other than that, its pretty damn osm. If CGR would have reviewed this game back in the day, they would've loved it. Its got loads of blood, enemies that don't disappear right in front of u, and a hell of a lot of weapons (the majority of which r explosive!)

  • I actually LOVE this game!

i surprisingly killed enemies with ease!

  • HAHAHAHAHA! I remember playing this game when the dreamcast recently came out. This game is so damn cheesy it's funny and surprisingly at the same time quite fun. The dialogue of the fat guy and his sumo attacks combined with the Christmas theme music were outstandingly hilarious. However despite all of this, the game was fun once you found alot of the awesome guns and martial arts move. Definitely a classic game one should play just for the fuck of it. Another game I recommend is carrier.

  • wait! i was one of the 4!?

  • i used 2 LLLLOOOVE this game!

  • I'm somewhat embarrassed to say I'm one of the 4 people who bought this game, way back in 2000.

  • THIS GAME SUCKS BUT THREE GAMES RIPPED THIS GAME OFF.lol Come on Man The 1950's Music While Your Killin' Shit That's Fall Out 3, And Dead Space Really Ripped This Game Off And The Vending Machine Who Knows How Many Games Took That From Dis.The Music In This Game is Awsome By The Way.

  • man, this totally brings back memories. I wish I still had my Dreamcast and this game.

  • Oh man, I don't care about the bad controls..this game was just brilliant :P

  • 1 of those 4 copies they sold went to me....for 6 bucks in the bargain bin. Perhaps the best 6 bucks I ever spent. i knew it was a bad game from the moment i bought it, but id be lying if i said i didnt have a blast with it.

  • Awesome game. Shitty review.

  • Yea but what you all gotta understand, at its time, when standards were much lower, this game was incredible.

  • @fireindigital sorry, but this game was never considered incredible. it was definitely thought of better due to the times, but even when it came out there were more impressive games. not that i hated the game; i enjoyed it quite a lot.

  • I got this near release and remember alot of swearing in the dialog and thought it was so cutting edge for the time.

  • the girl at the start sounds like cuty mary...

  • is anyone else getting a family guy feel from the music?

  • This was one of the weirdest games i ever played...the only thing i remember is that fat guys dirty mouth, i believe there's a couple in game movie's where he says "son of a bitch" really, really comically....it didnt fit the atmosphere at the time or anything at the moment, so funny.

  • you can't review a game unless you beat it, or at least know what happens, c'mon man try to be a little more open minded when reviewing games like this, but then again, you did make a good reflection on the game.

  • @WhiskersMctabby i totally agree. when he said he didnt get too far in the game i thought it was really unfortunate because the game gets a lot better in its later stages. i remember being a bit bored with the tedium earlier on, but as the game progressed things got a lot more fun.

  • @sadowolf damn right my friend.......

  • Comment removed

  • "Only sold four copies"

Lol, that's ludicrous, you think four individual people would buy this?

  • @TheThrashAnvil My brother had it

  • My eyes ! it burn ! ARGGG ...

  • i have a lot of respect for the game room, but i have to disagree with him on his opinion of blue stinger. sure, its not a fantastic game, and its a game not everyone will like, but the controls arent that horrible. The characters walk in an odd way, and dogs enjoys walking in a painfully slow fashion, but the controls never got in the way of the actual gameplay. the camera is an issue at times, but it can be forgiven. this was a launch game after all, and is definitely worth at least $5 lol

  • @piranha483 Back in the 90s I got a PSX and a friend of mine got a Dreamcast. I got RE3: Nemesis and he got Blue Stinger. Man did we laugh HARD comparing the games! Dreamcast was better than PSX hardware wise, but games aren't all hardware! Gameplay is the greatest factor. As someone who's played Blue Stinger I can tell you the controls where HORRIBLE!

I know, few games can be as bad as Kudelka (Resident Evil camera + Metal Gear controls = WTF game devs?!) but this got close :p

  • @piranha483: This game was the reason I purchased a Dreamcast to begin with, and yeah, the characters walk in a really weird way, I hated that. You know what I loved about Blue Stinger though, the dialogue may have been bad, but it was much more genuine than Resident Evil, most of the Resident Evil sounds like someone was reading off a piece of paper. Blue Stinger's graphics were really good at the time, when I first saw it, I thought it looked like the most amazing game ever.

  • i loved the music of this game... the part before the lift is so eerily pro.

  • Mark is so right. Back in the day I played this for 5 minutes but couldn't play more due to the controls.

  • the japanese version of this game has fixd resident evil style camra angles

i dunno what version is better anyone know US or jap

  • They should put the main character of this game as an unlockable in Dead Space 2 for the lulz

  • I played and beat this game back in the Dreamcast days and I loved most things about it. I guess this was one of those love or hate games.

  • Comment removed

  • I'd really like to try the drugs the game developers were using when they made this.

  • i want those stamps

  • Haha funny to see you comparing it to Dead Space, because indeed Blue Stinger was something which came to my mind when I first played Dead Space.

I could choose either blue stinger or 5 cheap game copies...I got those five after half an hour of bluestinger.

    Too massive, redundant and boring.

By the way, I'm repented of selling my Dreamcast in 2002 for something around $160usd, when I bought a PC....never played classics such as Makken X or Carrier.

  • I got mine for just under $10 because the case was broken. However, I had seen the game in the store for around 3 years. No one else wanted it. :P

  • Sonic and Eggman, cool!

  • Wow... looks like we got ourselves a Shemmune killer!

  • In the game's defense, the game came out for sale before the dreamcast did, by 9 days! :P Good job activision.

  • Mark please, please..! make a review of Dynamite cop for the sega Dreamcast

  • shooting with a shotgun is so funny!!!!

  • i have beaten this game a couple of times i playing all over agian this game is on my fav games on the dreamcast the cam angle and ever thing else in this game pretty much sucks but i got used two everything and as i say it so under rated this game is not for every one like shenmue thats my fav game on dreamcast and that game gots its probloms but in the end this game is very good both games might disapoint at the beging after awile awsome

  • Thats why i called this game blue stinker, The controls and camera views kill the game. but i did struggle through to finish it.

  • But, i still love my dreamcast, even though most of the games didnt push it to its limits.

  • Hey! I paid a $1.00 for mine too!! xD Thats funny!

  • ever heard of a game callled delta ops army special forces? cheesyness = awesomness = cheese covered awesome nuggets. i dont think anyone besides me in this world has that activision game

  • I noticed this review is of the US version. I have the Japanese version. The camera angles are really not as annoying as the ones I saw here. They're actually pretty epic in places.

  • The Dreamcast was so powerful, look at those beautiful graphics. And this comes from a guy who plays PS3 and PC games.

  • @alienwarelaptop100

Sorry, are you being sarcastic? I truly cannot tell.

  • No i am not.

Dreamcast is probally my favorite console of all time and all i was trying to say is that those graphics were amazing back in the day, and still are playable.

    I don't know why i got a thumb down?

  • @alienwarelaptop100 Dreamcast must have had the most weird games in any console! My favorite console as well

  • @alienwarelaptop100 dreamcast was capable to handle better graphics than those they used back in the day, people didn't make them, but dreamcast is just as skilled as PS2

  • This game owns!

  • they actually sold 500,000 copies of this game. i was one of them

  • One of the copies? :D

  • i was one of the 500,000 people who bought the game. lol

  • Yeah I remember this game back in high school... The camera really sucked and the music... I even used a gameshark just to finish this piece of crap

  • If i remember correctly, camera was fixed for Europe release

  • The developers of this title (Crazy Games) would go on to create the survival horror parody ILLBLEED on the Dreamcast, featuring a lot of the same corny dialogue and only slightly less clumsy controls. There is a reference in that game to this (one of the end bosses is named BULL STINGER)

  • Awesome water graphics

  • lol.. even the monsters in this game look a little bit like the ones in dead space.... guess we really know where dead space got its inspiration... hehe.. jk btw....

  • 4:35 - I see Wind Squid has made a cameo in this game. :)
