So why didn't you center the solenoids in the center of the glockenspiel? I would imagine that it would make the tones more optimized. Other than that, you are very smart to figure this out.
@kcphotoblog Good question: I am a software engineer who can hack together electronics to make things work. Mechanical engineering, on the other hand, is absolutely not my specialty, so I just needed a way to get wires connected to the solenoids, and still have the solenoids strike the glockenspiel. I am sure there are simple solutions to make this sound better, but for me it was an exercise in software and hardware development, not really music or mechanical engineering.
