You play too many video games and watch too many movies. 5.56 ammunition is not subsonic. Even using a suppressor (that's what they are called) there is still a loud "crack" when a round is fired. 9mm can be slowed down enough to be subsonic (the grain is really low in the round) and it much quieter than normal. The point of a suppressor is to mask the noise just enough to confuse the enemy as to where and how far the shot fired is coming from.

@AndyWetzel actually, i have fired an m-16 a1 & a2 and even without the suppressor, ( actually would not know what a suppressed m-16 would sound like, they don't use them in the army) on it, it is nowhere near as loud as it is in this vid. The loudest thing you hear is the bolt sliding back and forth.
