I saw Richard Marx in concert in 1992 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. He performed this song just before it was released on album. Awsome concert! I had 5th row center, and paid $5 for the ticket.

i agree highlander01 just seen richard marx at the royal concert hall on 25th may 2011 and he blew me away i already knew he was a superb singer songwriter,but the rapore with his fans was second to none,the fans were shouting which songs to sing and he obliged,i have now been to various concerts over the past 20 years and the richard marx concert is now my fave of alltime,how this guy was not mega in th uk god only knows hazard is a close second but my fave is children of the night

@baltecbrad i dont think shes dead at all,the river is always talked about as a place they dreamt about leaving the town,& it says "until the night she went out walking all alone,& never came home" & then he "needs to make it to the river,& leave this old nebraska town",so i think the town just finally got to her,& she skipped without him,& he wants to follow her..but possibly unrequited love,& he never featured in her plan to leave,as it never says they were together,just his feelings for her

This song is so haunting, it stays with you for a long time after hearing it. Story telling at it's best. I was a teen when Richard Marx broke out on the music scene, I so wish I would've opened up my mind to his music then. I love him now that I am in my 30s. Good Stuff. It is rare to find music and artists this great now days.
