I think Nikon is the same: My Canon 5D Mark II has the ability to adjust the RGB balances. I have not come across any real good explanation of using this capability. One of the questions I have is can you adjust the settings on the RGB balance in place of colored filters? Is this its purpose? Note: My camera makes duplicates of the shots with these color adjustments. In fact I can do "color bracketing" e.g by coming up with 3 pics for every 1 and 9 pics for every 3 during a bracketing shot

The explanation is simply this: it adds color tint to your images. Unfortunately, it does not correct the white balance because it will add tint to all color channels [RGB, CYMK, and grayscale (black and white)]. Yes, it works just like using color conversion glass filters but, again, it does not correct the colors. We do not think there is such a thing of "color bracketing" but white balance bracketing exists.

Thanks for the quick response! The reason I was asking is for underwater photography; u start to lose certain colors of the spectrum because the water filters out the sunlight as u go deeper. Reds for example are filtered first and I was wondering if using the camera's capability to add it back via the settings or a filter would be better. With the 5D M2 I can set it up so that there is "normal" and up to two other tints when taking the shot. I have not seen this covered & why I asked.
