  • Oh shit, He does look like fester.haha

  • I saw them play this in Manchester UK on the "final" tour, as an encore, Billy dressed as David Beckham in a Man United shirt, James in a City shirt, Jimmy as Liam Gallagher (parka coat and sunglasses) Melissa as Posh Spice (black wig, tiny skirt) on Halloween. it was awesome. Then 2 weeks later same venue, The Foo Fighters played and I met Melissa in the pit at the front of stage, lovely girl (she was dating Dave Grohl at the time)

  • for me still one of the best songs from the 90s!

  • whos the idiot that said this song was created in the late 70s....

  • 0:47 Danzig wrist band?

  • it's amazing how a song created on late '70 is still so good.

  • @allseevid Oh god I hope you aren't serious.

  • @allseevid Well it's what the song talks about, plus the melody that goes along with it. It may be titled 1979 but it was made in 1996, and the ideas and experiences in it could apply to any generation of young people in any time.

  • @allseevid It's from the 90's.

  • my brother says he looks annoying when hes bald

  • Billy looks like a bald dude.

  • I actually preferr this version without the drums but with Jimmy just laying down the strong guitar highlights. Works a treat!

  • Is that Jimmy playing guitar? If so, that's something special.

  • @basketballdude138 ROFL , I'd be mad too!

  • the singing is sketchy at parts but the guitar work is ethereal

    <3 <3 <3

  • terrible great great great

  • terrible

  • We didn't realize it at the time, but this was an incredible line-up of musicians they had up on stage - Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlain, Melissa Auf de Mer, James Iha and Matt Walker.

  • BILLY CORGAN IS FUCKING HOT! ISNT HE? ♥

  • despite all my rage im still just Nicholas cage

  • Amazing. Billy Corgan is a genius

  • The man is a fucking joke.

    Uncle Fester.

  • @ClydeMcFarlain music is still good between 2000 - now, its just harder to find

  • "i know you better than you fake it" .... love it.... and love this song....so sweet and melancholy!?

  • GTA 4 Liberty Rock radio! ahahah :D

  • @spAncArrOzzA Haha yeah, thats how I found out about them. Now there my favourite band, Liberty Rock Radio FTW!

  • @OutPunchedProduction ahahah :D

  • love you, Melissa (on bass)!

  • Epic

  • Billy Corgan looks like god

  • @Chivantrilo Nope. It's god that looks like Billy ;)

  • @Chivantrilo He looks like you

  • @Chivantrilo he's god!

  • @Chivantrilo Billy Corgan looks like uncle fester.

  • @Chivantrilo billy corgan IS god

  • i find this video difficult to masterbate to

  • @slimshady1997ful difficult.....not impossible.....do or do not...there is no try

  • One of the best live versions of 1979

  • @ClydeMcFarlain This is a great song, but there was a lot of garbage in the 90s, particularly the late 90s. I was born in '85, so I have early memories of some of the great 90s songs, but can also remember N'Sync, Ricky Martin, Nickelback and other awful "musicians." There were some great 90s bands and albums, but overall, I think music in the 2000s was much better.

  • great performance

  • Corgan looks like Pinhead

  • BILLI CORGAN LO MAXIMO

  • i think smashing pumpkins is just the best alternative band ever fuck everything else, im proud of billy corgan and them they made a big name for them self.

  • Best version live, fuck being born in the 90s.

    Melissa was their coolest bassist.

  • Oldies But Goodies!

  • shakedown 1979...

  • Sounds good!

  • god lead singer looks like a vampire.

  • @JonnoXD I know! Ain't it cool??!!!! Freakin' Billy!

  • @JonnoXD he is , you didnt know?

  • @JonnoXD he is lol

  • @JonnoXD Have You Ever Seen A Vampire In Real Life ? --'

  • @spykedu05 Yes , because "The world is a vampire !!!"

  • @JonnoXD From "30 days of night"....

  • his voice isn't as soft as on the record :L

  • She is a cool Chick. Greetings from Germany.

  • I like the part where they perform the song 1979.

  • @pluck101 Not clever

  • @pluck101 emm, download java

  • Nice live. Anyone who dislike this don't understand the meaning of the song. Must be bieber fans.

  • GOOD ONE

  • the drummer plays guitar because they have a drum machine for this song. how epic is this?

  • I love Billy but he sort of sings like a sheep in the bridge :P

  • one of the only songs that i think is played better acoustic

  • @willfalo1 You said that right and also Greenday, Good Riddance (Time of Your LIfe) also sounds the best on acoustic.

  • Why is this video so washed out looking? Very strange. Needs the contrast bumped up.

  • Love it when he sings 'and we, dont even care...'

  • I was trying to be funny. That's the name of the song.

  • when was this recorded? 1979?

  • @giterdone246

    although i know youre joking.

if this was recorded in 1979 that would make billy 12 in this video.

  • @giterdone246 nope the song is called 1979 it was recorded in 2000

  • @TeamMosh it was on the 1994 mellon collie album...

  • 1979? I was 19 and Billy is 44 today and it's 2011. That's fuzzy math. He would have been 13 in this video.

  • Theres something so special about this song. Just hits a nerve ! This version is cool all acoustic ..nice thanks for posting

  • I love how he comes in with the main riff at :23

  • What's the best cd for newbie to get? My favourite songs so far are this one and Bullet with Butterfly wings

  • @Joeysmynewfavdrummer mellon collie and infinite sadness? it has both i think. at least the double disk version does.

  • @Joeysmynewfavdrummer between siamese dream and mellon collie is the best bet, the original line up is on both, if that matters.

  • This is my favourite version of this song live that I've found on youtube. But I hate the part at the end I'm not knowledgeable about the Smashing Pumpkins, who's the guy between Billy and the chick

  • @Joeysmynewfavdrummer Thats Jimmy Chamberlain regularly the drummer

  • 28 people are freaks and goons

  • @BernDaAnchorman or just plain stupid

  • you remember good music when you see it live

  • what does he think he's a vampire or somethin

  • 11 years ago FOR GOD SAKE!!! How come time move so freaking fast?

  • "To Dust, I Guess?"

  • Nobody should have been surprised that this band fizzled away. Let's face it, the odds were against them from the beginning. I don't mean to offend anyone and I apologize in advance if I do but.... How else was a band to survive when you have a control freak, neurotic frontman who has ocd and whatever else with a chick on bass, a junkie for a drummer and a fuckin chink on lead guitars?

  • @dethmag good job not offending anyone especially the chinese lol.

  • @dethmag - James Iha is of Japanese descent, not Chinese. But regardless of what his roots are, why would they have contributed to the band's fizzling out?
