  • Yes corruption, that is correct. Thanks for watching.

  • So words with go or ge is suppose to have a sound from the back of the throat?

  • Je doet het goed(I am a dutch guy but I can understand Africaans its very similair with dutch!) So you are doing well with your afrikaans. If you can learn Africaans you also can learn dutch.

  • @dan1979geboren Dankie! Ek leer nou Nederlands!

  • absolutley awful!!!!!! :P

  • Nice video. Anyways do you understand dutch? I've heard it's harder for Africans to understand dutch then the opposite. Dutch: Good Morning - Goeie morgen Good Day - Goeie dag Good Night - Goeie nacht Sleep Tight - Lekker Slapen / Welterusten How are you? - Hoe gaat het? Good/bad - Goed/slecht enjoy your day - Geniet van de dag / Pluk de dag good bye - tot ziens! / Doei! Tot ziens!
  • @LOLLIEGEEFMELOLLY I do understand Dutch yes, but when you speak too fast, I have trouble. Baai!

  • lol I'm dutch and I gotta say that this looks a bit like retarded dutchxd

  • @NewLeafNLC

It would be better, and more accurate, to say that Afrikaans is simplified Dutch.

  • @bairen2002 You would be partly right, but it is not a dialect, Afrikaans is a language.

  • Hahahaha, heerlijk om naar te luisteren die taal!

  • @theweirddisorder jy moet dan Afrikaans leer praat!

  • well im afrikaans i can tell u everything so ya ek is afrikaans geniet jou dag en julle moet lekker leer ons gaan mosambiek toe

  • @zanderblignaut Geniet Mozambiek!

  • How do you pronounce the word "gessen"? The third 'e' has two dots above it. Thank you so much :)

  • @jesgar0629 you mean "geseën" as in blessed. it is difficut to explain, but the e with the dots on would be the neutral sound... ge see ae n.. not sure to describe with text.

  • lol Kevin Spacey praat Afrikaans

  • "until we see eachother again"

  • gooie genugtig

  • As a South African who's visited Holland on numerous occassions, I'm able to understand 80% of whats being said in dutch, although when I speak Afrikaans, to the dutch it sounds like an old language...sort of like the dutch version of shekespears 'old english'...how art thou...funny as hell & makes for a good icebreaker, considering the dutch are'nt as liberal as the world would like to think, holland cut ties with SA a long time ago, Afrikaans is as old as american english compared 2 the brits

  • so helpful.............thanks

  • :-) glad it was a little useful! Take care

  • the Phrases sound very Dutch or German could this maybe be descended from the Dutch colonies that were in what is now South Africa?

  • @colotron: Afrikaans developed from Dutch.

  • thank you so much for making this video. i was in southafrica for two months and i fell inlove with that language. please post more videos like this so ican surprise my afrikaans friends when i get back there in april.

    cheers

  • mr mostert

how are things back in SA ? have you been back for long now ? i've been in holland for 6 years now but am considering going back too... i stumbled upon your videos because i was looking for a good rendition of the song "ek is verlief op die kind". and i liked yours.

do you have any tips for ex south africans considering to go back ? would be nice to get your email and exchange some ideas, but this is youtube and i don't think it's wise posting my email address here... any iedeas?

  • Hi there, I am back here for just over one year, thinking of going back. For now I am staying here. TIPS? not really, if jou want to come, just come and get a job... the rest will follow. ifyou want you can send me a private message with your email.

  • My god I like this man, Look at hem so sexy so sexy .

    I can't say nothing else.

    hooooooohhhhh

    lekker.

  • o and what I watch or don't watch is up to me

  • O so what you're saying is Afrikaans just sprung up out of the ground over there, and so did you?

if it looks like a duck, swims like duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck (sort off) by god, it must be a DUCK!!

Pidgin Dutch I tells ya, pidgin Dutch ;)

having said that, I also saw that song De La Rey, sounds fantastic. maybe it's more of a singing language than spoken.

  • SA's great and this is a great video also, much, much appreciation. Maybe I'll see you in Camps Bay sometime, Cheers, T.

  • I dont live in Camps Bay or close by.. but it is a great place! Enjoy!

  • hey there, this is great. I'm an irish lad engaged to a girl from SA. So i'm gonna use this to suprise her with little works. please keep it up.. Thanks soooooo much

  • I am glad, I am planning to do a few more. Being a bit delayd. Or I am just Lazy!

  • I notice "Good" from "Good morning" and "Good" in general are different...Could you explain to me please?

  • Good from Goeie More, dag, nag - is one of many mornings, days, nights.

The other Good, is as in the answer to how are you doing. Hoe gaan dit = Goed. a state of being.

Well, that is how I would guess. I am not the linguist. hope this helps.

  • @Nettaiya87

"good" when it stands alone is goed.

Die kind is goed = the child is good.

When "good" stands in front of a noun it is goeie.

This is a good child = Dit is 'n goeie kind.

  • I've created account just to say thanks for this great job and mention that I anticipating more :)

    Much more ;)

  • Hello Chris! Thank you for posting this video. I have been looking for good sources from which to learn Afrikaans (I want to surprise a dear friend of mine when I go to visit him in SA!), and while it's not too hard to find stuff to learn from reading, it's much harder to find someone who will actually pronounce the words for you properly! I hope you will post more videos like this. Thanks again!

  • Cool, i am glad.. I am in Namibia at the moment singing opera, When i get home and have time i will follow up.. take care

  • Thank you for this video Chris...I hope that you make some more with Afrikaans. I decided to learn this language, and I find the grammar and vocabulary very easy, but pronunciation is always my weakest area, as there are not so many resources online dedicated to Afrikaans pronuncitaion. Thanks!

  • Hi there, I am glad you want to learn Afrikaans, you will find it not so difficult. I dont really teach it, but i will make some more videos for fun. Take Care

    Jeanette

  • ;-) hi Jeannette, thanks for the mesg. yes, i hope to do more vids..

  • sounds dutch. lol.. I thought it was all English there. Btw, is SA really as dangerous as they report?

  • Yes it is quite close to Dutch.

About South Africa, always a difficult answer...

let me answer with a question.. Is America as dangerous as they report... well, it depends on where you live and what you do. of course you need to not be stupid and walk alone outside in the middle of the night. that is like asking for trouble. But... it is not the safest place that i CAN say.

  • good point. I totally understand what you mean
