@upnod - no offense, but you need to get your ears checked. Yeah, they're other stuff is in other lower tunings, especially like Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics, but THIS song on the album is tuned to D. Whether one plays it in standard D or drop-D doesn't change the notes played, only the fingering shapes used.
I see you're copy/pasting the exact same comment in other videos - you have no vids of your own uploaded, do you even play guitar?
@tony93666 Yes true, but it would be a different octave even though they are the same notes, so it is virtually impossible to get the EW tone without down-tuning, and when they play it live it is down-tuned.
@tony93666 D is down-tuned, I was referring to down-tuning lower than D. They tune same as a 7-string would be tuned which would be BEADgBE. BEADgB would be the 6-string equivalent. They even play in ADGCEA. I did mess up on saying octave my bad.
@BLOODandINTESTINElie - yeah, I'm aware of all that. No problem, just having a discussion... funny how so many people(not saying you) can't figure out a song's key... and then want to argue. *facepalm* Sure EW tunes lower sometimes, but THIS song is in D - that's all I've ever said, but it goes on and on and on... LOL
@supersucker72 - they sound killer. It's a great pedal, well worth picking up. Just make sure to get the power supply cable with it as it's eats batteries pretty quick.
recently got a Sound City 120 and Carvin 412 cab. combined with the boss FZ2 fuzz, its pretty close to Jus' tone. will get new pickups soon, that should get me even closer.
no - it's way too loud, and it's distortion is too weak for metal, you'd have to use a stompbox 24/7. Since it's tube, you have to crank it to get a good tone(and that's still not a metal tone), and since I live in apartment, that's out of the question. That's why I sold it. I'd buy something else.
Vox Valvetronix, Marshall MG, Line 6 Spider III, even the solid state Crate Flexwave series - any of em will sound better than this Crate when it comes to metal. This amp is only good for blues and old classic rock, like Bad Company, Zeppelin, etc.
only get the Crate if you are happy using pedals for dirt - it's built-in distortion sound is abit weak. Okay for blues and old classic rock, but not for metal.
I didn't string a BOSS and a Big Muff together for this video - it's a BOSS OD20, which has 22 different overdrives and distortions, including a Big Muff tone.
oh okay well i'm getting into the class A tone and this seems to be the only amp that really catches my eye and the price can't be beat. i'd like to get the 33-watt 2x12 but, i can't find it anymore. sounds great though a 10-band by MXR would probably give it more depth. In all my years i've found "EQ" is highly underrated A good graphic EQ can really livin' things up.
Nothing mimics the big muff though, It's totally worth every penny if you dig the tone. It's what i use and i can't believe i used to be happy with the standard crate distortion.
nope, never have - I don't think they play live very much... I know Jus has said they have trouble getting visas to come to the US because they all have criminal records. LOL
it's in D(which is unusual for EW, they're usually lower) - whether you play it in drop D or D standard tuning doesn't really matter, the notes are the same(root-fifth-octave), the only thing that changes is how you finger the chord.
Just checked this band out on Itunes... thanks. I never heard of them before. It kills me though... how many riffs by bands like this have each of us "riffed" and they have albums, and we have the 8x6 stage(bedroom). thanks.
the lowest note in the riff is a D, so I'm playing it in drop D, and utilizing open strings for that lowest chord - they may be tuned abit lower, like C# or C, and playing it a little higher on the neck though... but this is in tune with the album recording.
They tune alot lower than D, at least in most songs I've learned of theirs, They tune in some sort of B tuning (whether it be Drop B or Standard B, both work. lol)...but this is in tune with the recording, nice cover by the way. I like your tone.
no, it was a Crate V18 1x12 tube guitar amp, with a Boss OD20 Fuzz - unfortunately, the audio quality is really degraded from having to use a shitty webcam.
yeah, I think alot of doom bands do that... I am disabled & I can't play live, so I don't need a big set up like them. In fact, this amp is almost too loud for me! hehehehe
Jus uses old Soundcity, Selmer and Matamps driven to the edge of distruction. I've seen pictures of him using Soundcity amps, I've heard some o the early stuff was done with old Selmer Treble and Bass amps. I know for certain he used a Matamp for recording Witchcult Today because he advertised it for sale just after the release.
nice dean v you got there

@BLOODandINTESTINElie - so D isn't considered 'down-tuned' anymore? If it was an octave lower, it would be the same as a bass... *sigh*

do u think i can use this amp for bedroom practice at low volume ? i mainly play metal
SIXXX1POUNDER 3 years ago
no - it's way too loud, and it's distortion is too weak for metal, you'd have to use a stompbox 24/7. Since it's tube, you have to crank it to get a good tone(and that's still not a metal tone), and since I live in apartment, that's out of the question. That's why I sold it. I'd buy something else.

thanks for the reply.
is it possible to get a decent metal tone out of it using a pedal?
what amp would u get
in this price range ?
SIXXX1POUNDER 3 years ago
Vox Valvetronix, Marshall MG, Line 6 Spider III, even the solid state Crate Flexwave series - any of em will sound better than this Crate when it comes to metal. This amp is only good for blues and old classic rock, like Bad Company, Zeppelin, etc.
tony93666 3 years ago
even when hooking a pedal ?
SIXXX1POUNDER 3 years ago
I said "when it comes to metal" - BY ITSELF, this amp can't do it. If your into metal, this amp will disappoint you.
Besides, Crate has stopped making them anyways...
This stuff is not rocket science, people - stop making it more difficult than it is.
tony93666 3 years ago
bummer.....it sounded good
lasher15158 3 years ago
not a bummer, that's a compliment - they were original riffs, little bits & pieces of my tunes. *thumbs up*
tony93666 3 years ago
no....its a bummer to me because I wanted to play it, but the video is gone and I can't remember the riff.
lasher15158 3 years ago
what was the name of the song that you played on your previous "Can the Crate V18 do metal?" video?
lasher15158 3 years ago
I don't remember... just random riffing, I think.
tony93666 3 years ago
I'm thinking of getting the crate v18 how did you chain the the boss and muff together to get the tone?
FilthyInsomniac 3 years ago
