Very nice! You can see the tranfer and shifting while your sliping and sliding. Ive tested my wife black 98 CRV AWD in mud, snow and some moderate climbs. Well, not while my wife was in the car with of course.
@fostgate12 hii there... i got the same 1999 model CRV 2 liter engine, 4 cylinder i did take it off road (on sand) but i never got that 4 wheel drive when my car got stuck....like in your video i see the rear tire spinning ...my rear tire would never spin...only the front ones will...does this has to do with the over drive on or off ??...
We have a Honda CR-V i-CTDi, 2006 model, and I can´t understand what some of you people are complaining about? We use our CR-V as an everyday car. It ALWAYS works, gets around 33-34 mpg (50% city-driving, 50% highway), has a really nice diesel-engine, and can take up to a foot of new snow in the winter with Nokian Hakka 7 tyres with studs. It´s not built to be an offroad car, but even so it´s sometimes fun to go a little offroad. The 4wd-system works just fine for what it´s intended for.
At least the first gen CRV had a way better 4WD system than the new CRV model...The new CRV 4WD system is totally useless for off roading. It does determine exactly where to apply torque, either front or real wheels. The new CRV is just for City or Highway driving, nothing else....The First Gen CRV was the only one capable of doing some off road.
@wtrdogg20 and I have 1 =) It's like a little civic jeep. if you don;t do something stupid it will get you anywhere you want. Nice tires is all it takes
Has certainly put in the driver, after all at the moment of it video, the given car used week, to it was fwd. Also has decided to climb first experience
To the OP of the video - you need to stop pussy footing it around in the mud - if you want to make it through, keep your momentum up its the only thing that will save you especially in a vehicle with open diffs.
sometimes you can spit front weels for an hour and back weels would stay unmoving... and sometimes right after a few front spins the backs are starting pushing the car... what's a deal here?
It works just fine - remember when the system is engaged it is 4x4 but like most other 4x4 trucks it still only has open differentials. Google how they work. if you see one front or rear wheel not spinning, chances are the opposite side is - this is the downside to an open diff - 98% of cars/trucks use them, its not the CRV's fault. The only way around it is a limited slip diff / locking diff or traction control the latter being the worst option.
i have an 01 crv and on all honda trucks they all have part - time 4wd which means its front wheel drive till the front wheels spin. and in the older models the part - time 4wd is so bad at detecting slip that it takes a while for it to engage. trust me in the winter i think my part - time 4wd system is retarded on my crv bcuz sometimes it doesnt work when i put it into reverse and is only 2wd... (the newer model honda part - time 4wd systems detect slip right away) 4wd disengages once you brake
even the first gen cr-v's only take a quarter of a turn of the front wheels slipping to engage the rears... the system didnt get better til 05 with the gen 2.5s, then in 07 with the gen3s which both subsequently decreased the amount of slip necessary.
There is nothing wrong with the cr-v's Realtime 4wd, the problem exists with the driver... :-P
yea well i dont see how something would go wrong by simply putting it into reverse and applying gas and yes there is something wrong with the crv's real time 4wd system bcuz when i walked into an acura dealer to look at the new rdx the salesman said he used to work for honda and alot of customers complained about a loud noise the real time 4wd system made and it was a design problem that caused it which costs around $2'000 to fix....
You are making the vehicle look bad!!! Put mud tires on it of you're going in the mud!!!!!! BF Goodrich AT 215/75/15 for example.

you are insane to do that with the 2wd model

Why c 2wd? At it 4х4, has simply overheated on 4х4 here and only 2wd drips.
