  • made me interested to watch the film.

  • 17 people would of appreciated this video being in layman's terms.

  • The fuck... Shyamalan conducted research for a movie about evil plants? LOL

  • the director looks like an Oompa-Loompa?

  • I adore Zooey Deshanel and Mark Wahlberg and just KNEW that this movie couldn't be so bad with them in it. Then I watched it, and it made me want to throw myself at their feet and BEG them to tell me- "WHY?"

(my friends and I were prepared for a thriller and laughed hysterically throughout.)

  • When i saw the trailer for the happening, i was like "this movie is gonna be the bomb-diggity." What was this fool thinking?! oh sure, plants all over the world can communicate with each other and miraculously generate one HUMAN SPECIFIC neurotoxin in thousands of different species all in 200 years of evolutionary time. my five year old sister saw through the holes in his logic! duh plants don't have a brain to "target" anyone! that's just fucking sad!

  • O SHIT WERE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!! from a piece of grass....

  • His movies just get worse and worse.

  • @bluemystic7502 thats cause he's done that ONE trick more than once, now people expect it so much that he basically ruined his own films before they even get filmed.

  • Does M Knight Shamalamabigbang have a spray tan?

  • plants kills people? boohoo... wat plants gonna do if humans extinct? evolve to more intelligent being? then create a complex society? invented more superior technology? rule the earth in their own way? and then wage war against each other when conflict arise? it always the same as humans...

  • @ImperialEarthEmpire The film's premise, or should I say, McGuffin, is science fiction. This is the science to the fiction: morning minus earth dot org slash graphi minus E slash Biosphere slash Bios-C-PlantsDefense dot html

  • lololol, a deadly plant... i didnt die when i touched one of these 1:27 xD

  • its the plants? i thought its the wind :D

  • @BeBeAyumi

nah, the plants were releasing a pheromone, which was carried by the wind.

All-in-all, a shit movie, with shit acting.

  • hello

  • The Happening was one of the worst movies ive ever seen. M. Night kills me with his endings....ugh.

  • Plants SHARES our DNA, thats why we get healed mostly with plants...modern medicines are based on edulcorated plants...if the sun reduce it is power as some scientists says ( no more solar flares since last september 2009) then of course it will have an effect in plants photosynthesis which will make them to release different toxins.. ...........................

  • We do not get healed from plants. We get healed from chemical compunds found in nature or artificially created in a labratory. Some only appear in the wild and some are solely the creation of man.

And who said there have been no solar flares since Sept-2009? There have been dozens. There are dozens. On a daily basis.

where are you reading this insanity?

  • Plan B: Run. That's a good one!

  • science means evolution and photosynthesis

  • zomg! did you know plants give you rashes! It's all in their plan to get you to scratch yourself to death.

  • IMO this movie was great!

  • To paraphrase Ted Turner on Robot Chicken: "Protect the environment, or we'll ****ing kill you!"

  • Whoa. :O

  • It was a joke. ;)

  • LOL I know xD But when you say that. O__o Whoa,,, xD

  • I liked how this horror movie had a unique culprit of murder, not some man eating plant or evil serial killer guy or an evil clown, but just a simple green plant we live around everyday. its genious (not sarcasm)

  • I love the graphics of how they like get killed, the buliding, the lion, and the stuff that happens. But the ending plants..:/ I hate to say it but I didn't like it. Plants being the reason not the best :/ I love the movie I watch it like all the time just really hate the fact that it was plants.

  • Once Monsanto will own all the seeds maybe u change u mind about what u says...also it is in Haiti where the knowledge of ancestral use of neurotoxins from plants reside ( Voodoo )....alot of coincidences this days

  • this directors just dont know what to create anymore

    -.-

  • Please don't hurt me plants! I LOVE YOU! See I'm turning off the light switch and giving you some water. Here's some sun!

  • tan epic phail

  • MOM!!! CALCULUS!. I'm seeing calculus.

Honey, what are you talking about?

The Calculus! it's in my eyes

    (crashing glass)

    Greatest movie ever

  • wtf? that doesen't make any sense...

  • bud is the only plants i burn

  • All you have to do is get a gask mask and you can survive...

  • But by the time you knew what was happening, it'd be too late. In theory anyway.

  • It is my Bansai plant handed down for 7 generations that has kept my family in abject poverty!..............DIE! ....NOW! ... BONSAI!,BONSAI!, BONSAI!

  • the movie was awsome i loved when the dude got his arm torn to shreds by the lion and it had an inportant message too

  • The Happening was one of the worst movies of 2008, IMO.

  • Brocolli and Zuccini is the most evil poisonous plants of all. They tries to warn you with terrible taste.

  • OH NO TEH WIND

  • So a metaphysical force is controlling the world's plantlife into wiping out the human population and only the strong will survive.

  • Plants naturally have the ability to quickly develope to defend themselves against danger. Wierdly though, they develop a toxin, that is only toxic to the specific threat. They're more special than you think.

  • I read in a great study about plants that when an animal pick a leaf from a tree, this same tree send chimicals signals to others tree and the other trees release stright forward a chimical which make it is leaves bitter so the animal wont eat it. Plants have the solidarity among them that we have lost.

  • Then you are the most gullible person in the world. Ever see a giraffe move from tree to tree to tree eating leaves without a problem? How about koala, gorillas or the thousands of other herbivores out there. If this mythical report were true it would first indicate that plants are sentient which they are not and it would also mean the end of all live on earth as herbivores eat plants and carnivores eat herbivores.

  • @captwasabi I believe this report is true. Some plants just like some creatures are poisonous to protect itself. herbivores just know the difference. Besides sentient beings theres also creatures that act on pure instinct. Their sole thought or action is to grow, eat, reproduce, and eliminate or avoid a threat. I'd say plants fit. Herbivores aren't typically a threat to plants in nature. Plants need them to carry seeds when they produce fruit & plants need carbondioxide which mammals breath out.

  • @Miracle490d Wow, you are clueless. Herbivores have absolutely no part of the pollination process. That falls to natural processes such as wind and rain and actions undertaken by insects. As for "thought" or any measure of sentience, to even suggest that plants are capable of this is ignorant in the extreme.

  • @captwasabi when did I say herbivores were part of pollenation? I said herbivores carried seeds and they do. They eat fruit, swallow seeds, and poop it out somewhere else so small trees are not over shaddowed by the parent tree. Plants need sun to grow. I only suggested instinct regarding plants. Cells are not sentient, but even they have a drive to continually divide. Science has shown that a plant's roots will reach for water in the ground and leaves and flowers will turn towards the sun....

  • @Miracle490d Uh...."Herbivores aren't typically a threat to plants in nature. Plants need them to carry seeds when they produce fruit & plants need carbondioxide which mammals breath out." You did type that, right jackass? And phototropism (the tendency of plants to bend towards the light is not sentience jackass.

  • @captwasabi GOD! YOU CANNOT READ!!!! I already explained that. And I have said over and over again that PLANTS ARE NOT SENTIENT!!!! I SAID THEY ARE SELF AWARE AND AWARE AND REACT TO THEIR SUROUNDINGS, NAMELY SUN LIGHT. IF THE PROPER NAME FOR THAT IS PHOTOTROPISM, I DID NOT KNOW THAT. I CAN ADMIT TO NOT KNOWING EVERYTHING. YOU JUST LIKE TO PUT PPL DOWN AND CALL NAMES. THAT'S BLIND IGNORANCE. YOU'RE HOPELESS. NO USE TALKING TO YOU ANYMORE.

  • @Miracle490d So now we are on to the rather ridiculous claim that plants are self-aware? Really? Plants are aware that they exist meaning plants have thought? That's astounding! Or is it more likely that you are, in your ignorance, simply mistaking genetically encoded processes for actions based on self-awareness? See, it's not ignorance if you at least make an attempt to understand the terms and words you are using in conversation.

    You clearly do not.

  • @Miracle490d The regulation of phototropism by the horomone Auxin:

Auxin is generated on the dark side of the stem more than the light, where it causes cell elongation which in turn makes the stem grow unevenly. that is it. that doesn't sound like an actual active response to stimuli.

  • @captwasabi ....They have even turned a normal plant growing upward upside down and observed it change the direction it grew to find the sun again.

It may not be sentient thought but there is some sort of self awareness and awareness of it's surroundings. If you don't think so explain that then. Maybe you are the ignorant one. Don't think that you are the only one that knows anything. Find out what you're talking about before calling someone ignorant. Read and study the world.

  • so everybody died because of getting high

  • Marijuana releases a neurotoxin as well, and it gets me FUCKINNNNN HIIIIGHHHHHHHH

  • good movie marky mark was a litte weird though because he talks to a fake plant what a deusch

  • plan b:run lol i like that plan

  • interesting idea, shitty movie

  • Hmm i'll take that in mind next time i have a foxglove sandwich for my dinner.

  • Deadly plants! YEEEEEEEEEEEEA BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • M. Night Shyamalan's strangest film...next to the Villiage.

  • reason is a need deal with it!!!!!

  • shut up kkk

  • omg KKK nerd

  • true

  • Oh yeah genius (incomeinfinity). It's not a chemtrail you idiot. It's a contrail.

Contrails form when hot humid air from jet exhaust mixes with environmental air of low vapor pressure and low temperature.

Oh yeah, I'm an air traffic controller.

  • LOL. Look at bees. All of bees are disappearing. Because of that damn plant's toxins. Bees always land on plants all the time. That is why. What the hell do you think plants are coming with toxins in natural way? It is from damn jets spraying. It is all about population control. Who cares about contrails or chemtrail, it is man-made which it is not natural and harmful to plants and people. You will go happy-dancing naked while lawnmower runs over you.

  • Come on guy. Contrails are water vapor! It might be unnatural how it is made (being caused by man rather than nature alone), but it is not harmful.

You don't know how jets work obviously. I'm an Air Traffic Controller. You know what that means?

Jets suck in air and then spit it out. That's the basics of it. There's nothing in the air that it spews out. It's just air.

I am amazed at how someone that is 33 years old can be so misinformed over something so simple. You've gone over the deep end.

  • I agree I have researched contrails/chemtrails in depth and there is nothing to it, it's a bunch of paranoid malarky. Chemtrails starting showing up in skies when the altitude ceiling for commercial aircraft was raised. Colder air causes the planes to leave a vapor trail. It's air and water, nothing more. Try to find one shred of actual evidence proving that a contrail has any additional chemical content. You will find only speculation.

  • It is government's fault because government allow all jets to spray chemical which it is called "chemtrails" in the sky. When chemtrails fading away and going down to living plants and trees. Living plants are really pissed off and increase more powerful toxins to infect humans. It will happen in 2012. Bugs are done and Humans are next to die.

  • LMAO. Let me guess about 2012, the Mayan calender so called prophecy?

Ok, I can admit that people are doomed. It is inevitable. The Earth cannot sustain an ever-increasing human population that destroys it's surroundings. However, people will not be dead in 2012 or anywhere near that soon. I assume famines and disease will become more prevalent over time, and global warming will really take shape in the next few decades as polarice melts and methane comes up from the ocean as they'vediscovered.

  • the movie is not great but i love the idea

  • His an amazing director i like all his movies and the happening was great.Any one who doesnt like it is a pretty much an idiot who follow what others say, think for your self

  • You assume anyone who doesn't agree with you is a conformist.

I watched this movie before I'd even heard of it, and by the end I was in tears.

  • The plant thing made me kind of wince because the whole movie went from a thriller to more of an environmentalist wacko infomercial. "Go hug a tree..." etc..

Decent movie, a little wierd, but all together kind of dumb. Other animals have threatened plants before and they never got wiped out by them.

  • shyamalan's movies rocks!

  • The Village sucked.

  • After watching that movie I was kind of scared of goin outside lol

  • the guy is a genious i love all his films, people who don't like this film are just shit

  • ...Plants?!

    =S

  • this movie is total garbage

  • i swear this dude has the worst endings for all his movies

  • except for signs

  • YES!!! AMEN!!! Every movie ending blows. THANK YOU

  • i don't like his work . the only movie i liked was the happening.

  • LOLOL

  • ok? The Sixth Sense was his best film hell never beat it this is his worst

  • It's funny, 6th sense was one of my least favorite Shyamalan movies and that seems to be everyone's favorite. My favorites are Signs, The Village, and this one. I seem to always pick the least favorite public opinion!

  • i thought this movie kicked ass his other movies were ok but the happening and the sixth sense deffinetly stick out above the rest. signs wasnt to bad eather

  • the movie unbreakable, the village, and the 6th sense qre good movies. The rest of his work is crap. How could that be? he should do a movie on his phenominal failure.(after making a few good ones is the mystery)

  • this guy directed one good movie- the sixth sense the rest are crap. hes not even that good of a director

  • Interesting concept 4 a movie. Mass suicides, global warming issues & then the plants attack, the bigger ? is the honey bees. No bees the humanity has only a survival rate of about 4 years, true factiod. We need bees 2 pollinate the earth, man can't do it alone. I read somewhere N order 4 mother earth 2 completely heal herself of what we have one 2 The Garden of Eden is 4 man 2 B wiped out/a dramatic die off. Now that's some shit 2 behold, think about.

  • hey you got it, 99% should be exterminated. Now you know how to save the planet, when are you going to get started?

  • use fucking letters in proper sequence to form words please

  • Get a life trick! Is that fucking proper enough 4 ya...U get like 100 words or less 2 say what cha want. I don't know bout U but call me crafty 4 cuttin 2 the meat of my conversation. A 12 yr. old can read & understand What's UR prob?

  • A 12 yr old may read and understand, but the problem is: he will always reply in a dumb, and agressive e-thug way, thinking he's though. Like you just did.

  • a more probable reason for mass suicide in this movie is everyone just finished watching "The Village"

  • yeah i jus got back from the movies like 20 min ago that movie was hot tho but im from brooklyn and i wanna kno y da hell all these bad thing gatta happen in N.Y the day after tommorow this movie dang are they trinna tell us sum thin letta gurl kno but i was mad they didnt show more blood it shoulda been rated pg-13

  • I think this movie comes from the shock of seeing people jumping out of WTC on 11/9 and thinking at what could happen on a global apocaliptic suicide raptus.

  • It hasn't come to my theatre yet - may have to wait until it is on DVD. I hope it is better than the Village - that was so predictable, and kind of hard to believe (not in the good way)... I really liked Signs, and Lady in the Water; of course the Sixth Sense was terrific, but the Village was terrible.

  • lady in the water was utter crap. so are all the others. the only good one was the sixth sense

  • oh. you are the annoying guy in the theater.

  • M.Night Shyamalan's only good movie was The Village. Shyamalan is a One-Hit Wonder.

  • signs was good

  • Actually I think all of his movies are very good in different ways. Most people actually hated The Village but I appreciated the idea and the characters that made up the "elders". The Sixth Sense is by far most peoples' favorite (at least from where I am from) but

I think that the Happening tops them all. Again, I know a lot of people who hated it. It is very reminiscent of The Birds. Very classic.

  • ... the monsters were not real... that movie sucked i wanted gore not old farts in costumes

  • the movie was creepy as fuck princeton was one of the best or scaryiest parts

  • the part where the old woman starts smashing her head through the windows, that scarde the crap out of me.

  • Wait, how did this suck? It's his first good movie. You people that say it sucked probably haven't seen it!

  • whats wrong with the happening, looks like not the plants did it,but emos really are contagious,SHIT,they gu nru nroudn us and turn us all emo the nwe all gunna die like in the happening SHYT BROA WE ALL IS SCREWED RUN LIKE A MUTHAFUCKA

  • of course it sucked, its M.Night Shyamalan..

  • the movie had a crappy movie

  • the movie had a crappy movie? what?

  • well, at least it was a new kind of "horror movie"

    he thought outside the box.

  • "Stupid horror movie" is not a new kind of horror movie.

  • to bad this movie sucked ass

  • m night is a douche

  • omg this is the movie where my vo-tech teacher was going to go out to dinner with mark walberg.. he never did, but it was when mark was around pennsylvania when he was gonna meet him.. my vo tech teacher knows people lol

  • lol same thing goes with weed lol

  • Wow, night lost his genius after "the village", what a bad movie...

  • SOS Everybody must watch this! Warning from NASA.

    watch?v=JUtVQ7QbCNU

  • this makes me want to go out and eat yard grass :)

  • and bartenders ready for another round

  • oh my god......DONT WATCH THIS MOVIE!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO BUY SOMETHING WORTHWHILE!!! LIKE A GOOD MOVIE, OR A BOOK, OR EVEN PORN!!! DONT EVEN BOOTLEG IT ITS REALLY NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!

  • M.Night Shamylan stands for his last name "SHAM" This movie is a Sham lol. He's getting very rich of people like YOU who keeps going to see his movies expecting to see the only real good movie he has ever made the "SIX SENCE". M Night has lost his creative desire so all we get is a rush job of work. Maybe in his next act Mr Shamylan will commit Suicde I'm sure by then no one would believe his ending is worth the cost of the headline news and that my friend is as bad as his last 3 movie's.

  • umm..his name doesn't have "sham" anywhere in it..

  • his name is spelled Shyamalan... not SHAMylan.... that was a good one seeing how you spelled his name wrong to make your joke even less funny. But I honestly didn't like the movie either..

  • shamylan? wtf

  • Now that I've seen this video and compared it to the events in the movie I can see that the film was far-fetched. Hell, it was MORE than far-fetched! That just makes it suck even more! Unless you like gore and bad acting, don't waste your hard earned money on tickets to see this movie!

  • and the bartender passes a nice cold beer to bakerstreet for that nice smack down

  • The only "plant research" M.Night did when he was creating The Happening was all the ganga he was smoking when he thought the film would actually be anything short of ridiculous in its level of stupidity.

  • he must be sooo stupid LMAO he is a producer and has alot of money. what a moron. The movie was actually ok, alot of violence and gore my favorite. but really stfu LMAO

  • Krazygirl...Because he has money, I should accept every flaming bag of dog shit M. Night Shamylan drops on the front doors of our cineplexes? The fact that he's rich doesn't change the fact that his films are poorly acted and unoriginal. FYI, Shamylan is a writer-director, not a producer. Why don't you get your facts straight before you call someone a moron? This movie is basically a POS, hippie version of a Japanese film called Suicide Club, which is superior to this film in every sense.

  • ROFLROFLROFLRTOFL lol. i agree with you in the dfact that this movie sucked balls. oh, and suicide club is way better than this POS. but it doesnt really have anything to do with this movie other than the fact that they all commit suicide. 1-2-3 *jumps infront of oncomming train*

  • I know that plot-wise, Suicide Club and The Happening don't have any correlation. I think that the creative process behind the conception of the two films is similar: "Let's make a movie where a massive amount of people kill themselves for some reason that we'll think of later." Only M.Night Shamylan wanted to use an absurd, junk science explanation that is thematically aligned with Night's misanthropic environmentalism.

  • LMAO you are a moron. and who cares if its similiar to any type of movie. MY opinion DONT GO WATCH THE MOVIE. if you did then you are a moron. if you sit here and talk shit about a dayum film you must not have a life.

  • children don't put things in your mouth

  • the shit is so fucking dumb

  • The happening is the most extreme and unlikely movie that could never happen in real life. Plants communicate and rage wars but we are virtually unaffected by them at any scale. The idea is good but it is way too advanced for some terrorists to use such weapon. It is actually very funny to hear that some people are developing fears of "plant attack". I'm in biology and learned all about plant communication but in Hollywood reality breaks. Rest assured that there are other threatsmore common

  • if you think terrorists were actually involved as to why the plants were harming humans in the movie then you didn't fully understand the movie. Terrorists had nothing to do with why they were dying.

  • man this has to been the worthless movie i had seen this year sides the strangers.. this movie was horrible. they should start doing an 10 Preview on an movie.. sides a trailer... so they can make the movie look good.

  • Really? You're putting a spoiler right at the beginning of the description?????

  • right at the title!

  • Well I didn't like it either, and I wasn't comparing it to his other work. So everyone click on my video response or go to my page, which is the trailer for my feature debut "Prodigal."

  • Shit movie, thanks though..

  • this movie was alwsome, sorry loser's M.night is a genuis and his movies are not ment for the slow!!!!

  • For the slow?

NEUROTOXINS THAT MAKE YOU KILL YOUR SELF WITH THE MOST HILARIOUSLY DISGUSTING WAY POSSIBLE!

    ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?

  • like i said his movies are not ment for the slow, get over ur self

  • i agree. it seems to me that only geniuses appreciate this movie.

  • Genius = no street smarts or common sense.

  • Amen to that. It was pretty depressing.

  • when you go see a shyamalan film you dont go expecting it to be mundane or reasonable. Ivve never seen one of his films that made sense. Thats what makes them enjoyable

  • "when you go see a shyamalan film you dont go expecting it to be mundane or reasonable."

Joshrpsycho, what horror movie have u gone to see that ever made sense, they're all bullshit could never happen scenarios.

  • That would be the point,

  • I can't believe that someone actually read the script of this movie and thought it was worth making...

  • well going by what the producer has said, you can tell that it's not about pollution, it's about "killer plants." (:

  • After watching the clip again, yes, "killer plants" would be appropriate. My reasoning of pollution occured to me while watching the movie. I didn't watch or read anything about the movie until after I've seen it.

  • Yeah after seeing the film I've been keeping a close eye on my wife's ferns when I go on my deck to smoke.

  • LOL

  • Funny not to brag or anything but I'm a very wealthy man. I took my wife to see this movie and the very next day she brings me flowers. When she wasn't looking I dumped them in the fire place and turn up the fire. I'm at lawyers office changing my will as we speak.

  • First of your name in pokemonboys so I doubt your a grown man

  • Did it occur to anyone throughout the movie the theme may be about pollution, etc. during the scene where the smoke stacks are in the background when the man goes back to his greenhouse to get hotdogs??

  • Neurotoxins? Man wtf was Shyamalan thinking or smoking when he came around this? >> plants alone cant triggered such a massive bullshitting slaughter house >> i expected better than "Plants" sure i know some are toxic and deadly but none to make you do THAT lol to me that appears to be more of mind manipulation or the work of a demon XD but oh well guess even Shyamalan just had to hold a lot of his ideas back to make it acceptable.

  • That is the most halarious comment on this page.

  • Well seriously this fucking movie could give those psychotic terrorists a damn clue and who are we going to thank when we all DIE? MR Shyamalan! ill be sure to kill him when i become all zombified XD cuz theres no fucking way Plants alone can work such an event without the aid of MAN and i dont mean stupid pollution >>in other words MAN with genetic engineering BIO PLANT WARRIORS! XD seriously we havent seen the full development of Stem Cell research yet until we see babies born AS Cabbage PACK!

  • i didn't think it was that bad. better than the crap Night came up with in the past few years.

  • I think folk didn't like this film because its difficult to imagine trees and bushes being a credible villian, you know? But I liked it...for some reason.
