i thought the Ecotec only came out in 1995. I'm not much of a car expert, but I'm just wondering since I'm looking at VS's. Any information about these cars would be great.
@sbiz0soad Yeah the 1995 VS Commodores were the first Commodores to come out with the Ecotec V6 and it's supposed to be a little bit more powerful then the older V6 in the VN/VP/VR Commodores. I think the engine block was still the same (LG2) and then when the VT commodore came out they changed it to a LN3. What information would you like to know? I work as a mechanic so I should be able to help :)
@ben205vs Alright thanks for that. I took a VS for a test drive the other day and when I turned the steering wheel it groaned a lot. I was wondering if this was a common problem in the VS's.
@sbiz0soad Yeah that is common on VR/VS Commodores but its an easy fix. Under the dash on the driver side there is a black cover near the accelerator and brake pedal, take that off and where the steering shaft goes into the firewall there is a bush that turns with the steering wheel (you may need to hold the carpet down a little bit to see it). Start the engine, while turning the steering wheel, spray WD40 or CRC into the holes and it goes quiet and smooth. You may have to spray a fair bit.
@ben205vs ok Thanks man. The VR's are basically the same as VS's, but without the ECOTec right? Is it alright if I send you a link to a car I'm going to go look at?
@sbiz0soad Yeah VR's have the older engine. Not sure what else is different besides the badges. You can send me a link if you want. Ill take a look at it.
