  • Great cake! Love the details on the gift tag.

  • the only thing that leaves me puzzled, is how did u get the gift box lid. im new to this and im planning to make the same cake for my mum, any tipss will be very much appreciated.=)

  • love it

  • Sarah congratulation!! is as nice as the book, but i like more the color of your cake : ) you did very nice work. Looking forward to see more of your cakes!

  • Thank you Claudia :)

  • WOW! It looks FANTASTIC! IT looks like it came out of a book! That is my favorite shade of pink and it totally looks very chic in combination with white. The edges are perfectly clean, the stripes are meticulously lined, the bow is TOTALLY SEXY and the overall fondant work is the bomb.

I love this cake, TOTALLY AWESOME!

This is one cake I'd regret to serve.

  • Thanks Rylan!

  • Oh then I'll try makin this cake next week and i'll let you know how it turns out!

  • Very cute cake....I love it! Thanks for sharing the baking technique....that was awesome.

  • I loved the cake, most of the gift box cakes I like are usuly square but for some reason I don't like square cakes o_o

Anyhoo, I already have the strips but even when using them the cake never rises up that high .. Is it a normal towel you're using? =p

I mean is it safe to use a towel?? Cause if it is ama try using it it might turn out better!

  • Actually, I filled the tin with too much batter to start with. Normally (with no towel) my cakes dome in the middle and the sides don't rise above the tin but I misjudged the amount as the tin was small! So that would account for the sides rising up that high. But I didn't expect the sides to rise that much! I used a cotton handtowel. I also worried about using a towel, but it didn't catch fire. Just make sure it is wet. Not sure that it would work better than the strips - u can let me know :)

  • very cute!!!!

  • Thank you:)

  • Beautiful cake, I love the colours. It's great learning new tips:).

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks for the tip with the towel, Im totally going to try it with my next cake!

Your cake looks fabulous and I bet your Mum was blown away.

  • Thanks Danielle :) Definitely go with the towel!

  • Beautiful cake Sarah! I'm sure your Mum LOVED it! :) What an awesome idea about the towel! :)

  • Thanks Laura :) The towel is fantastic - wish I'd done it earlier!

  • I love the style and colours! Everything is well balanced.

The towel technique I use it all the time and love it. It works every time.

  • Thanks :) I wish i'd tried the towel earlier!

  • Do you make your own fondant or do you buy it? I have tried making items stand up on my cake and even if I let them dry for days they are still to soft to support themselves. Any recommendations on how to get my fondant to dry/harden quick?

  • I buy fondant (I don't have the time to make my own). You need to buy tylose powder - it hardens the fondant to make it similar to gumpaste. There is a video on YouTube by aine2 regarding how to use it. I don't actually pre-mix fondant with tylose like she does - i mix it in just prior to using the fondant. Hope that helps.

  • Very pretty..your bow it so full :)

  • Thanks :) Great design by Planet Cake!

  • That is so beautiful! Thank you for posting this:)
