  • What happnes if the co-efficient of x^2 is a differnt number such as 3. Woudl you still use x when putting into and equation?

  • @FoziaYaqoob This particular operation "completing the square" can ONLY be performed with x^2.

  • i did the otherwise method and got x=+5+-4sq.root3. im confused.

  • I have double checked. The mistake is yours. mathstutor.

  • @havapintoflager I have double checked. The mistake is yours. mathstutor.

  • @havapintoflager I know this is a little late but could be beneficial for anyone watching now that got the same answer, what I think you did was recognised that root 12 = root 4 x root 3 but forgot to change root 4 into 2

  • this is nice and clear, i was a little shakey on completing the square but i think i'll do fine now. at least i don't have the worry of time on my mind (i get 100% extra if i want it) so i can concentrate on the questions and not on the clock
