I own both a 04' mustang gt w/ flowmasters and a 87' GN and gotta say the buick will beat the pony. but mustangs deserve respect for there snarl and reliability...
@13CAYLAN definitely reliable....Ive been primarily a GM guy and bought the pony because of the mileage and price. The thing just takes a pounding! A well built car for sure....
Stock? The Grand National is running boost and the mustang is only making it more fair. Boost for boost. Plus the Mustang is a manual and looses boost at shifts. The Grand National is an automatic and always loaded. Mustangs have superior motors and last. You don't see many grand Nationals cuz their all blown apart. Maybe next time. :.)
@bcuzziss I have to agree that my little 2V is holding up pretty good....the car is much diferent now...Ive added a smaller pulley and intercooler. I havent dynoed the car yet, but at 13psi of boost Im sure its over 400. I ran the car down the 1320 last summer and had traction problems(nittos) but it was trapping at 115-120 with a boost leak. I think Itll do high11s with good traction!
@bcuzziss Maybe the reason you don't see many grand nationals is because they only made 20,000 or so in 1987, even less performance ones like the GNX with 543! It certainly does not have a superior engine, considering that it was made 10 or so years later, it should be significantly stronger taking that 10 year newer point into concept. Not to mention, i don't see any GM cars blowing spark plugs straight out of the heads.
@DChristianson56 right, my 4.6l has blown all but 2 plugs throw heads, all heli-coiled. The stock 3.8 block, with forged pistons and billet mains can get up to 750HP. People are just jealous, because what GM did with the turbo regals in the 80's. This was on a platform that no money for development. Look at he instrument cluster, definitely a 70's style. I think they did some suspension upgrades, from 78, but that and the engine where all.
@bcuzziss I bought a GN with 105,000 miles in it. The VIN of the car is stamped into the motor, so I know it was the original motor and never been rebuilt because it still had the rear main seal rope seal and leaking oilThe is unopened at this point, I bought a bigger turbo, injectors and methanol injection and now run 25psi of boost. I only got a slightly larger turbo te44 mainly because it can more efficiently make 25lbs boost without heating up the air charge. I ran 11.70@116-1.70 60'
@bcuzziss the reason u don't see very many gn's is because only about 30k were made between 84 and 87. Buick had something special with their turbo v6 3.8L. U do realize no new development money was spend on these cars, other than the engine from about 82 on ward. The G-body platform was supposed to be canceled in 84, but they ran it for 3 more years. The plant they were built in, in Pontiac was built in the 20's, so it was on its way to closing rather the platform was continuing or not.
@bcuzziss Mustang motors are superior, mine is unopened 120k and I run 25psi on for 3 years now. Not a single problem. The people who blow their motors apart people who don't know what they are doing. Detonation, which are turbo charged cars are susceptible to are the reason the blow up. Run a your superior motor at 25psi with the same timing and not methanol injection then come back and said they are superior.
@bcuzziss The only reason you do not see many GN's anymore is because peaple got smart and put them up for the long haul. Besides you race any motor repeatedly, it will get tired and blow up so you can not use that excuse.
im surprised the buick did not win. my fathers buick took on a 2011 gt and won. but i guess ill have to give the mustang some credit.
