Xbox 360 HDD Formatting Error

tried to install fallout 3 add-on disk, it said i needed a hardrive, but i already have one, when i go look at storage it says"unformatted" i then format it and same problem here.

hey everyone, yeah I tried everything to fix it, troubleshooting and all that stuff, and nothing worked, what you have to do is, call support and request a new one, send it to the chullora 1405 site and then you should get a new one in 14 days depending where you live, do not open or tamper with it otherwise you void the warranty. when you send it, I recommend using a usb device to store all your stuff temporarily, when you get your hdd back, copy everything back. :)

this just happened to me this week and the worst thing about it is I cant recover my gamertag now( long story) but if anyone knows what's wrong with the hard drive or how I can fix it I would like to know I dont really have the money to get another hard drive

my 360 hard drive formats fast like it skipped over part of it the pic bar shows half way then format is done in no way is that 20gig drive take that fast to format.

guys all u have to do is plug in a usb memory stick and transfer your data onto that once u do unplug it and format your hardrive then plug back the usb stick and transfer it back onto your hardrive

@johnjustable doesnt work like that because if you have the xbox 360 s thats 250Gigs then you cant transfer like that cause only format usbs upto 32Gigs

I have the same problem. First noticed that something was not right with a used 20GB drive. Thought it was a dud drive, so bought a brand new 120 one, and this shows the same symptoms; won't copy, transfer, corrupts data, won't format etc. Never even had a chance to try the demos etc on the new one as the data disappeared. Something is definitely wrong with the system or something has screwed up with the software with one of the updates.

Sending my 360 in and I am not impressed.

Wow, sorry for the month-late reply. I sent my 360 in just before I got a chance to play SR2, so I can't really comment on that as the repaired 360 worked just fine when I had a chance to play SR2.

As for the HDD problem, I believe it is something that fooks the software on the 360 as both drives did spin up and recognise before I sent it in. Unfortunately, I had to send in the box for repairs as there is no way to re-update the 360's software as I know of.

I believe if you want to run the risk of voiding you're warrenty you can fix this.. using xplorer360. But I'm not gonna void the warrenty on my elite just to see. I'm attempting to back up information on another harddrive and see if it reads that. I wish me and everyone with the problem luck. BTW mine's a 120 GB.

mircosoft are screw ups, their operating systems suck dick and the xbox360 screws up all the time. Ive had mine less than 2 months from just before 9th nov 2008 and my profile has been corrupted, downloaded vids have not played, games have frozen, it told me the disc needs cleaning and cant play when its fine which i solved by maintaining the hard drive, and now i just turned my xbox off, removed the hard drive and all my stuff is gone, and it says hardrives is unformatted. WTF?

Guys i have this problem. I havce some gamer profiles and now it doesnt read the hard drive. I called microsoft and they aid to take your hard drive and put it in another xbox 360. If it works that means something is wrong with your xbox and if you have warrenty than they can replace it. If you take your hardr drive and put it in another xbox 360 and it still wont work then you send ur hard drive to them. I havent had the chance to do this.
