I don't understand why people can't just accept two very different bands for what they are, Arcade Fire will never replace (and never tried to) Radiohead. The work of Radiohead will never undermine the great achievements of Arcade Fire, they're just different and both incredibly talented.
i think that no one can talk more shit in just some few minutes Radiohead it's other thing, far away from all music and it seem that you'll never understand the sence of their art. i like Arcade Fire, but you cant compare them !
I like Radiohead and I like Arcade Fire but I like Arcade Fire more. I do not think they are the new Radiohead though because they are different in their own ways.
Don't get me wrong, i like both radiohead and Arcade Fire . However, i don't like when people compare a band by saying they are "the new this or that artist". Arcade Fire is uniquely their own, just as Radiohead is.
I actually listened to both albums on the way home today after seeing this video and I couldn't tell which one I prefered as they are both quite different. I hope the suburbs stands the test of time like ok computer, because it certainly deserves too and is certainly good enough.
Arcade Fire and Radiohead are two completely different bands, who are amazing on their own levels, they shouldn't be compared. I love them both, it's just that Arcade Fire appeals to my taste a whole lot more.
there hasn't been a single album like The Suburbs that has moved me spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually since OK Computer. I love both bands, but to say Arcade Fire is the new Radiohead is just plain wrong...
thats bullshit ok computer is and always will be in the top ten most monumental records of the last fifty years. radiohead will never be replaced and despite that there is no need for them to be replaced seeing as they are still making incredible records such as TKOL. bbc can suck my dick arcade fire is way overrated they are ok but to compare them to radiohead in the words of the great Mia Wallace would be an exercise in futility
arcade fire SSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSS FUUCCKING DICK!!!! Radiohead is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x better than those faggots,
also to add on listened to the suburbs great album a little bit overrated by reviewers by the way they hyped it i thought it was their best LP or something but listening to it...it felt bland in some parts 8.5/10 probably my least favorite LP from them but it is still really great.
Radiohead is the new Radiohead. All their albums are different but still have the essence. Arcade Fire is amazing but completely different, I see no point in making comparisons.
@ZwienerZ Ready to Start? Empty Room? We used to wait? I mean, I don't think they're similar to Radiohead AT ALL, but The Suburbs does have epic moments.
I love them both, Their are no comparison. The only thing that can link the two bands would be the fact that AF are influenced by Radiohead. Thats all.
Give me a thumbs up though if you think it would be epic if the two bands were to get together & do a gig or a song or two =)
I've seen Radiohead twice & they have been my favourite band for the past 5 years or so now, but Arcade Fire are something else live. I seen them 6 days ago at Leeds Festival, the sister festival to Reading Festival, & I can honestly say it's probably up there with the greatest moments of my life. I don't wanna overhype their live performances before you go but check out "Reading Festival Arcade Fire Highlights" or something on youtube & you'll see a snippet of what I mean. Utter genius.
I hate it when newer artists are compared to ones who came before them, especially if the older artists are still around making great music. Can't we just say that The Suburbs was a fantastic album and leave it at that?
@gogolplex74 You may like Coldplay better but that's your opinion. Please don't make it into a fact. And how can you say that aren't similar when Chris has called them one of his biggest influences? "42" sounds like a Radiohead song to me.
I don't think radiohead needs approval from a 22 year old who still likes anime and green day.
and that "emo guitarist" you speak of, happens to be a talented multi-instrumentalist. He plays guitar, keyboard, viola, xylophone, glockenspiel, ondes martenot, banjo, harmonica, drums, lemon shaker, and utilises sampling.
Did I mention that he has made two soundtracks. One blends genres with incredible craft . And another widely considered one of the best of the decade.
@father042 Epic fail! AF are influenced by these so-called "pseudo-intellectuals." And how dare you insult Jonny Greenwood (RH's guitarist), he has more talent in his pinky than you will ever have:)
@father042 Haha. Wow you are so wrong. You say radiohead is depressing, but arcade fire isn't??? You obviously just don't like radiohead because you dissed thom yorke (one of the most unique voices in music today) and johnny greenwood (a MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST and fantastic guitar player). I like both bands, but radiohead is more talented.
the Suburbs is great tbh, Arcade Fire are very very good.... but there nothing like radiohead in my opinion, why does every new band, which a certian unique sound... get compared to Radiohead, i love Arcade Fire but the suburbs better than OK Computer????
I read somewhere that Arcade Fire was being compared to Nirvana in the sense that Arcade Fire could revitalize the music scene in the same way Nirvana did when Nevermind came out.
nah, I think that the time of their influence has past. Funeral was THE album that held the most influence in the greater music scene from 2004-2007. After that record there were hundreds of copy cat bands going for that "epic indie" sound characterised by Arcade Fire.
The state of the indie scene today tends to be more experimental/psychadelic/minimalism influenced. And with the internet, I think it would be harder for any one band to start any kind of scene akin to the size that Nirvana spurred. That being said, I think that this works in Arcade Fire's advantage. It makes them unique and they won't have thousands of copycat bands trying to capitalise on the special little sound they've created for themselves.
In accordance with Unicorn.. THERE IS ONLY ONE RADIOHEAD.. and why would there be a new radiohead when the old radiohead is not dead! how can you compare the two in first place! tom yorke and johnny greenwood are the freakin masters

I actually purchased The Suburbs recently and I gotta admit it wasn't that bad. Funeral and Neon Bible were okay I guess, but The Suburbs was pretty good. I read in reviews that it was like a modern day Automatic For The People (R.E.M.) which I could see, but it definitely ain't no OK Computer.
Let us start looking for a new Radiohead when the old Radiohead is dead, ok? (but let's hope RH doesn't) For now, the new Radiohead should refer to any upcoming or the last Radiohead album or sound.
OK Computer is my favorite album. The Suburbs is a good album. I guess I really just don't see the similarities between The Arcade Fire and Radiohead. All arguments about which band is better (*ahermradiohead*) aside, they're just really different and a strange choice in bands to compare.
@mramerecka I think they are comparing the way their third albums made them go massive, as opposed to the sound of the albums. I would agree, musically, they are totally different.
Hmmm ... more like the new E Street Band or U2. Passionite, direct songs that can fill stadiums with ease. It's hard to shake the E Street comparisons, w/ the Springsteen-isms that were all over Neon Bible.
The Suburbs might be better than OK Computer but Arcade Fire will never do anything as masterful as The Bends. Although Funeral, Neon Bible and now The Suburbs are excellent albums.
Hell I don't even mind a Radiohead Vs Arcade Fire debate as both are great bands in their own right!
arcade fire is not the new radiohead. first off arcade fire sucks. radiohead doesnt. a huge fucking difference. first off all of the songs of radioheads albums cept maybe afew were good. arcade fire is pretty much just mainstream stuff that is made for the radio. don't compare the two bands cos their is no comparison.
ive been a big fan of radiohead since the bends and I must say that AF has been giving them some challenge. In rainbows has been very disappointing, and the suburbs is epic
arcade fire is not the new radiohead at all... what a strange comparison. come on, stupid. Great album, but OK Computer? no. I don't know what that is even supposed to mean. Is it ground breaking nope, neither was OK Computer. best album of the year in that particular year. maybe.
Arcade Fire is Arcade Fire, Radiohead is Radiohead. They are incredibly different bands in terms of style and sound and everything in between. The one thing they do share is an immense level of talent.
Remember all the other "new Radioheads" dubbed by the music press?
Coldplay was the mediocre Radiohead. Muse was the shitty Radiohead. Wilco was the American Radiohead. TV on the Radio was the black Radiohead. My Morning Jacket was the alt country Radiohead. Fugazi was the punk Radiohead. Sigur Ros was the icelandic Radiohead. Mastodon was the metal Radiohead. Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear were the new Radioheads.
There is only one Radiohead. Let Arcade Fire be Arcade Fire.
nah. Coldplay are mediocre. They sound like a watered down amalgam of U2 and Radiohead. Eno helped make their last album somewhat exciting. Muse are terrible, although I loved them when I was a kid.
Wilco, Animal Collective, Sigur Ros, TVOTR, MMJ, Masto, The Griz, Fugazi are great.
@unicornwithahorn I completely agree with the sentiment. I may be nitpicking, but I think referring to Fugazi as "the punk Radiohead" is retarded even outside of the inanity of referring to bands as "the _____ Radiohead" simply because Fugazi predates Radiohead.
No, I completely agree with you. It's a comment meant to point out the ridiculousness of the media, and the way it tries to create narratives (even false ones) just to be the "first" one to have declared it so. In hindsight, I think this is more of a hindrance on other bands rather than Radiohead.
OH MY FUCKIN GOD WHAT IS WITH THE FUCKING PAUL MCCARTNEY THING. I dont give a shit that the Beatles were good musicians and inspirational/influencial. They were NOT the first and are NOT the last! Dave Grohl is like the only man I will ever "idolize", yet that doesn't mean shit. The fact that these fuckers came from Britian doesn't mean shit. The fact that they did drugs and wrote stoner music doesn't mean shit. The fact they were new doesn't mean shit! Nirvana is even better (regardless of USA)
BBC, you're done. OK Computer, if even the WORST Radiohead album, carries so much monumental weight for the last 3 generations, comparing Arcade Fire, which is also a fantastic band, to that album, is like comparing Lady Gaga and Matt Bellamy.
Because the city/country a band is formed in is usually considered the home of the band, even if none of the original members are even around anymore.
@democratos89 no, nickelback is the new slowly cutting off your leg with a rusty hacksaw. while getting flogged. while getting shot in your other kneecap.
I love the both of them..arcade fire is AMAZING!!! but the new radiohead??? I would assume so. AF is beautiful so I wouldn't be surprised if they are the next in line to be the next radiohead. they probably wont ever reach the height of the beatles simply because of the generation we live in but they would be if people still listened to good music
Zeppelin's never gonna be replaced. That kind of musical connection is extremely hard to find, let alone with four extremely skilled musicians like the members of Zeppelin.
Beatles, Pink Floyd and Radiohead will NEVER be replaced. They're timeless. However, Arcade Fire could certainly be something AS big as all those bands, that's not sure yet, they've only released 3 albums with The Suburbs. Of course, Funeral was, according to me, as good (or almost) as OK Computer or Kid A. I don't know about Neon Bible though, need to give to further listens. I will buy the Suburbs.
Im Canadian and LOVE Arcade Fire there one of the best newer groups. But to say the new album is better then Ok Computer is insane. Ok is a masterpiece
Ok here's the thing: you can't predict things like that or even attempt to make comparions like people do because most of the bands being compared sound nothing alike. I can't stand when people are like "Paramore sucks! Listen to Iron Maiden instead!" Yes, Paramore sucks total ass but the fact that they are being compared to Iron Maiden is not fair. Compare Paramore with Evanescense and that's a more fair. (And yes, Evanescense is clearly better!)
I'm from Canada, so Arcade Fire is like our national treasure. But to go as far as to say they're album rivals Radiohead? Thom Yorke and co. are probably the best band in the world right now.
Surely Arcade Fire can't write ANOTHER perfect record?! How is this possible! When they make a bad one it's going to be like coming down of 40 ecstasies and 20 ounces of marijuana.
I don't understand why people can't just accept two very different bands for what they are, Arcade Fire will never replace (and never tried to) Radiohead. The work of Radiohead will never undermine the great achievements of Arcade Fire, they're just different and both incredibly talented.

ive been a big fan of radiohead since the bends and I must say that AF has been giving them some challenge. In rainbows has been very disappointing, and the suburbs is epic

arcade fire is not the new radiohead at all... what a strange comparison. come on, stupid. Great album, but OK Computer? no. I don't know what that is even supposed to mean. Is it ground breaking nope, neither was OK Computer. best album of the year in that particular year. maybe.
Cbermani3 1 year ago

Let Arcade Fire be Arcade Fire.

muse are much better than you think
wilco -booring
tv on the radio - liked only wolf like me
morning jacket, mastodon , grizly bear and fugazi - never heard of them
sigur ros - really good
animal collective - electro rubbish
KarmaPoliceman158 1 year ago
@KarmaPoliceman158
nah. Coldplay are mediocre. They sound like a watered down amalgam of U2 and Radiohead. Eno helped make their last album somewhat exciting. Muse are terrible, although I loved them when I was a kid.
Wilco, Animal Collective, Sigur Ros, TVOTR, MMJ, Masto, The Griz, Fugazi are great.
unicornwithahorn 1 year ago
@unicornwithahorn ok your opinion
KarmaPoliceman158 1 year ago
@unicornwithahorn I completely agree with the sentiment. I may be nitpicking, but I think referring to Fugazi as "the punk Radiohead" is retarded even outside of the inanity of referring to bands as "the _____ Radiohead" simply because Fugazi predates Radiohead.
pieceustogether 1 year ago
@pieceustogether
No, I completely agree with you. It's a comment meant to point out the ridiculousness of the media, and the way it tries to create narratives (even false ones) just to be the "first" one to have declared it so. In hindsight, I think this is more of a hindrance on other bands rather than Radiohead.
unicornwithahorn 1 year ago

by the way, I was a fan of Fugazi before Radiohead.

Win Butler and his brother are from Houston Texas, so why is Canada the only place mentioned with the Arcade Fire?
JoeSatForPres 1 year ago
@JoeSatForPres
Because the city/country a band is formed in is usually considered the home of the band, even if none of the original members are even around anymore.

TheHedgehogss 1 year ago

Maximillion666 1 year ago 3
Ok here's the thing: you can't predict things like that or even attempt to make comparions like people do because most of the bands being compared sound nothing alike. I can't stand when people are like "Paramore sucks! Listen to Iron Maiden instead!" Yes, Paramore sucks total ass but the fact that they are being compared to Iron Maiden is not fair. Compare Paramore with Evanescense and that's a more fair. (And yes, Evanescense is clearly better!)
wickedlyangelic76 1 year ago
I'm from Canada, so Arcade Fire is like our national treasure. But to go as far as to say they're album rivals Radiohead? Thom Yorke and co. are probably the best band in the world right now.
scenester64 1 year ago
Surely Arcade Fire can't write ANOTHER perfect record?! How is this possible! When they make a bad one it's going to be like coming down of 40 ecstasies and 20 ounces of marijuana.

I kinda like Arcade Fire, but then I but I feel like I'd be jumping on the bandwagon. Lol at Sammie's fanboyism
I'd say that acts that I reckon will stand the test of time are the following:
Enter Shikari (when you consider the hype and huge fan base)
Kasabian (hate them, but I'll have to live with it)
Artic Monkeys (Again, don't like them, but It doesn't affect me)
Bloc Party (I like them, and they're seen as the new The Smiths)
Godspeed you! Black Emperor (Love them! hope they do live on)
