I was looking through my dads rock n roll posters and stuff and to my surprise, I came across a signed Hawkwind banner. When he came home, I told him "Hey dad, I didn't know you had a hawkwind banner!" He said "Oh yha! I thought you knew about that. Yha, I used to go backstage with Motorhead and I sometimes had a couple drinks with Lemmy." "Lucky!!!" He asked me "Do you want to hang it up in your room?" I am one lucky 13 year old.
i implore you please do not listen to this if you have any single unresolved issue in your life or you are plagued by even intermittent bouts of anxiety, worry or doubt. it will reach into your mind and grasp you and jerk you in a great psychedelic vortex into the outer reaches of space, thru the Nine Rings of the Outer Zone and into the lap of the Anti-God. Then you are lost.
the anderson/ollis rhythm section was one of the best rhythm section that hawkwind ever had(the other one is ,of course, the lemmy/king rhythm section)
A girl got me onto acid tabs at UMIST in Manchester would it be around 1974 and i would later (4am) go home put this album on and feel better than i have ever felt in my whole life !! anyone got some tabs..ah ah ah
I am the centre of this universe The wind of time is blowing through me And it's all moving relative to me, It's all a figment of my mind In a world that I've designed I'm charged with cosmic energy Has the world gone mad or is it me? I am the creator of this universe And all that it was meant to be So that we might learn to see This foolishness that lives in us And stupidity that we must suss How to banish from our minds If you call this living I must be blind.
yep, i fell in love with this album when it came out, i was like 14 or so, been into progressive space rock ever since then, tripped out on LSD25 in my bedroom with this album too. brings back memories...uh, i think
Back in the 70s I saw Hawkwind at the Town Hall Cheltenham.
Don't remember too much ( was out of my brains at the time),except this wonderful track and of course Stacia giving it all........... what band, what a woman!
@random silence....5 moths ago..comment...i have not..heard..this for thirty ..eight years..doing acid...but the baby boomers..gen...comment.. are all about them" look at me"...there kidds are..pissed.of they just..cook..up chemicals in a pot..in their own kitchen... and go out and cause mayhem...I think I have seen the best of times!... and..yeah hawkwind...acid budda sticks...surfing..around Australia..was part of that...oh and by the way the girls...yes we where selfish...2999..this..music.
I remember well my dad playing this to me when i was 2 years old...they were his favourite band for about 20 years. now its marilyn manson, but thats a different story altogether....
Similar story to Hippypottamus..... only it was my Brother in law who introduced me to this album. I had a copy, but I've no idea what happened to it. I probably got rid of it when I became a boring sensible person in the 80's briefly... I've returned to hippydom with a little less hair. :o/
great stuff ,went to see them for fourteenth time last week and they played a storming set ,even took the other half who hated them for over 20 years ,she loved it !i can now use the H word at home LOL best wishes from a long time fan
Takes me back to Manchester Hardrock (now B&Q) 1974 I think. There were two naked dancers and a shitload of strobes and lights. The whole thing blew my 16 year old mind. My second best ever gig after Sabbath at the same venue.
"Master of the Universe" - the original grandfather of the whole "stoner rock" movement...
I actually first heard this track when someone somehow got it onto an ordinary commercial radio station in the mid 2000's through a song request. I remember that at 3:30 exactly the DJ faded it out with the comment "right, that's enough of that, any more and our heads will explode"...
Although this is Hawkwind's second album, their "space rock thing" started actually here. Their self-titled first album was more of a psychedelic folkish rock record.
I didn't remember the terrible sax solo from 2:34 onwards.... but anyway classic stuff!
I never understood why people adored the Grateful Dead so. A person told me do acid n listen to them then they open like a 3D book. I've never done acid but I took his word for it.
Then friends turned me onto HW while induced in herb. Then I really got the Grateful Dead deal.
for a period of between 6 and 12 months, every weekend when i was 13 and 14, i would get really stoned with a mate, all we listened to was hawkwind and augustus pablo, good fuckin times :)
In 1971, aged 12, I went to my cousin's house and listened to this on headphones. I had only listened to the pop charts before. I was in space rock nirvana. I bought the album a few days later but had to destroy the book 'cos my Dad hated hippies. That was a mistake.

You lucky soul. Alas, my dad was 41 in 1971 so never appreciated this music. He was of the generation that was, I think, scared of hippies and everything they represented. We were on holiday in 1970 near the Isle of White (where Hendrix and The Doors played). I will remember the looks of distain and scorn on his face, and his comments ("disgusting", "they should get a job") as he surveyed the ranks of assorted hippies and festival goers until the day I die.

I think alot of people are more open to "hippydom" or related ides these days.
Materialistic pursuits of wealth and lives of excess just seem to falling flat on their face more and more.
Alot more people searching for meaning and a worthy existence, and casting nets a bit farther out in that search.
But hey, what do I know?
