  • Hey Dude, the album is called 'X in search of space', did u neva read the cover, lol

This one of my all time favourite tracks, crank it up and Rock out.....;-)

  • I was looking through my dads rock n roll posters and stuff and to my surprise, I came across a signed Hawkwind banner. When he came home, I told him "Hey dad, I didn't know you had a hawkwind banner!" He said "Oh yha! I thought you knew about that. Yha, I used to go backstage with Motorhead and I sometimes had a couple drinks with Lemmy." "Lucky!!!" He asked me "Do you want to hang it up in your room?" I am one lucky 13 year old.

  • @MajorHochstetter1 ...thats really cool, man..not trying to rain on your parade but are you sure your dad wasnt bullshitting you?

  • @MajorHochstetter1 NICEEE!

  • a timeless classic

  • HARE KRISHNA, SUCH A GREAT SONG! I LOVE THIS BAND, ESPECIALLY THE SPACE RITUAL/EARLY YEARS!

  • this drumbeat is a monster. Love hawkwind. This would be a great cafe race song and probably was more than once.

  • savage

  • total respect

  • i implore you please do not listen to this if you have any single unresolved issue in your life or you are plagued by even intermittent bouts of anxiety, worry or doubt. it will reach into your mind and grasp you and jerk you in a great psychedelic vortex into the outer reaches of space, thru the Nine Rings of the Outer Zone and into the lap of the Anti-God. Then you are lost.

  • @TubobRainbowUnicorn what he,s sayin , hawkwind taped into ,a portal of light ,an if you go there ,u will be enlightened...

  • @TubobRainbowUnicorn must be time to get my shrooms......squeak!

  • La pochette originale s'ouvre dans tous les sens. Superbe aussi ... collector ;o)

  • the anderson/ollis rhythm section was one of the best rhythm section that hawkwind ever had(the other one is ,of course, the lemmy/king rhythm section)

  • A girl got me onto acid tabs at UMIST in Manchester would it be around 1974 and i would later (4am) go home put this album on and feel better than i have ever felt in my whole life !! anyone got some tabs..ah ah ah

  • quite groovy trippin'....

  • I am the centre of this universe The wind of time is blowing through me And it's all moving relative to me, It's all a figment of my mind In a world that I've designed I'm charged with cosmic energy Has the world gone mad or is it me? I am the creator of this universe And all that it was meant to be So that we might learn to see This foolishness that lives in us And stupidity that we must suss How to banish from our minds If you call this living I must be blind.
  • I think we werre all teens, yeah Hawkwind still Spacerocks my Mind..my kids just laugh when I blast it!!

  • yep, i fell in love with this album when it came out, i was like 14 or so, been into progressive space rock ever since then, tripped out on LSD25 in my bedroom with this album too. brings back memories...uh, i think

  • astounding sounds amazing music

  • saw this lot in malvern winter gardens enjoyed and had a great time

  • hello dave

  • ça fait du bien de réentendre ça, le pied!

  • i dont get it, what is so good?

  • @pendejo92 Everything?

  • Is this beat music like Gerry and the Pacemakers ?

  • @Trainspotter52 no, it's space/psychedelic rock !

  • 5 dick heads! 195 with culture!

  • psychedelic warriors!

  • Back in the 70s I saw Hawkwind at the Town Hall Cheltenham.

Don't remember too much ( was out of my brains at the time),except this wonderful track and of course Stacia giving it all........... what band, what a woman!

  • So damn good you know it could go on for another 6 minutes. '_'

  • COOL!

  • damn... Iam addicted to this solo stuff at 02:30... cooler than most guitarsolos

  • Such a great riff!

  • @random silence....5 moths ago..comment...i have not..heard..this for thirty ..eight years..doing acid...but the baby boomers..gen...comment.. are all about them" look at me"...there kidds are..pissed.of they just..cook..up chemicals in a pot..in their own kitchen... and go out and cause mayhem...I think I have seen the best of times!... and..yeah hawkwind...acid budda sticks...surfing..around Australia..was part of that...oh and by the way the girls...yes we where selfish...2999..this..music.

  • i must admit that i cut my teeth on the space ritual version but original is trippy as fuck. nurse...

  • i have a copy of this LP with the printed insert. old hippy stuff.

  • Nothing like taking a little trip and listening the Hawkwind back in the 70's.

  • fantastic music

  • 4.43... perfect!

  • I picked this vinyl up last year at a thrift store. Now I need to find my record player.

  • ATTITUDE UP THE ASS.

  • I remember well my dad playing this to me when i was 2 years old...they were his favourite band for about 20 years. now its marilyn manson, but thats a different story altogether....

awesome album from a brilliant band:)

  • Similar story to Hippypottamus..... only it was my Brother in law who introduced me to this album. I had a copy, but I've no idea what happened to it. I probably got rid of it when I became a boring sensible person in the 80's briefly... I've returned to hippydom with a little less hair. :o/

  • @JakeAnnetts

I think alot of people are more open to "hippydom" or related ides these days.

Materialistic pursuits of wealth and lives of excess just seem to falling flat on their face more and more.

Alot more people searching for meaning and a worthy existence, and casting nets a bit farther out in that search.

But hey, what do I know?

  • @fedupN You sound like you know a lot. I think you've hit the nail on the head. I totally agree :o)

  • @JakeAnnetts

Hahaha thanks! The more I know, the more I know I don't know!

Plus, no statistical trends or any research to back that up, just going off what I have noticed meself. XD

    Keep on rockin!

  • @fedupN Oh I intend to... life is too short to waste on not rocking.. ha ha

I'll be rocking in my chair soon no doubt. :o)

I wonder if you'd like our music? Feel free to check us out if you are in a browsing mood. :o)

  • I'll never forget first hearing this album. It opened my ear and my mind as to what vast unexplored worlds there are without and within.

  • this is the music I grew up with, my dad thought I was loon......I still am lol and still love Hawkwind

  • I am the center of the universe. The wind of time is blowing through me.

  • great stuff ,went to see them for fourteenth time last week and they played a storming set ,even took the other half who hated them for over 20 years ,she loved it !i can now use the H word at home LOL best wishes from a long time fan

  • " I am the center of this universe" - that sums up the babyboomer generation.

    But it's a great lp.

  • @Uwe - cheers man! I'd love to at some time :) @maxnotts - the world has gone blind, your eyes are seeing as it really is.

  • I have this on vynal, it's a struggle peruading people this is good. Is it me or has the world gone blind.....?

  • @maxnotts

nah, just deaf from all the bullshit blaring through the radio.

justin beiber, solja boy, hannah montanna..

pffft no one cares about making music from the soul, at least the ones who you see on the tv screen.

  • You can tell these guys had herb for breakfast...but for lunch,well...hehe...;)

  • one of the best RIFFS ever

  • Cobra, Wery good song!!!!

  • Master of the universe and Master of Reality, Masters of stoner rock.

  • Takes me back to Manchester Hardrock (now B&Q) 1974 I think. There were two naked dancers and a shitload of strobes and lights. The whole thing blew my 16 year old mind. My second best ever gig after Sabbath at the same venue.

  • Thanx for posting this dub off the LP, but Hawkwind was never captured in all their live magnificence. Where, for example, is Stacia?

(Stacia. Stacia. Her name will be on my lips as I die.)

  • This brings back such awesome memories sitting in dark smoke filled rooms and just ...........floating away!

  • Very Cool riversend, this is my song. Whoosh...

  • Very good !!!

  • I used to really love Hawkwind back when I was 13. Them,Pink Floyd, and Tangerine Dream.

  • Iride my bike to this, it's poignant, it's epic, it's the wizards tits !!!

  • "Master of the Universe" - the original grandfather of the whole "stoner rock" movement...

I actually first heard this track when someone somehow got it onto an ordinary commercial radio station in the mid 2000's through a song request. I remember that at 3:30 exactly the DJ faded it out with the comment "right, that's enough of that, any more and our heads will explode"...

  • Hawkwind, What Gives? Mail, email, still nothing? What is Going on?

  • @darrenable1 go to their official website, and leave a bit.

  • great just great...

    hawkwind forever...

  • still my hawkwind fav. had great moments of my life with that song in the background...i agree it's great for night-driving,too.

  • :o)# Great example of Science Fiction Rock !

  • Although this is Hawkwind's second album, their "space rock thing" started actually here. Their self-titled first album was more of a psychedelic folkish rock record.

I didn't remember the terrible sax solo from 2:34 onwards.... but anyway classic stuff!

  • pure psychedelia

  • I never understood why people adored the Grateful Dead so. A person told me do acid n listen to them then they open like a 3D book. I've never done acid but I took his word for it.

Then friends turned me onto HW while induced in herb. Then I really got the Grateful Dead deal.

  • TheJuggalo1215

I don't remember you being there - were you the quiet one in the corner?

  • i like lemmy on vocals

  • @MattDylan420

I do too but he wasn't in the band at this time! This is Nik singing.

  • for a period of between 6 and 12 months, every weekend when i was 13 and 14, i would get really stoned with a mate, all we listened to was hawkwind and augustus pablo, good fuckin times :)

  • In 1971, aged 12, I went to my cousin's house and listened to this on headphones. I had only listened to the pop charts before. I was in space rock nirvana. I bought the album a few days later but had to destroy the book 'cos my Dad hated hippies. That was a mistake.

If I could have only 1 album it would be this.

  • Man, what a shame :-S

  • I got the original, with the book, and gatefold sleeve, in good condition, and am open to offers.

  • wow that sucks! unlucky man :( my dad has space ritual and hawkwind on LP :)

  • @Hippypottamus and Hawkwind, very great lengths to take this picture back, but no help? after all i gave you, question.

  • @Hippypottamus well i was introduced to thios song in 1981 at 17, we would smoke low grade grass, and drop orange phoenix acid, it blew my mind, by this time i was a full fledged motorhead fan, still am.

  • @Hippypottamus

I think, i can really understand you. With Hawkwind in my mind i travelled through the universe.... And this is the same until today....

If you ever will come to Germany near my hometown Osnabrück, hey, give me a notice. I would be glad to meet you.

    Yours sincerely

    Uwe

  • @Hippypottamus

I am sorry your father's unwarranted hatred resulted in the book having to be destroyed!

I never encountered that myself, as my own father was a hippie, even has a peace sign he made himself out of Christmas light we still put up during the holidays.

I just discovered Hawking myself, but I am glad you are rocking out to Hawking to this day!

  • @fedupN

You lucky soul. Alas, my dad was 41 in 1971 so never appreciated this music. He was of the generation that was, I think, scared of hippies and everything they represented. We were on holiday in 1970 near the Isle of White (where Hendrix and The Doors played). I will remember the looks of distain and scorn on his face, and his comments ("disgusting", "they should get a job") as he surveyed the ranks of assorted hippies and festival goers until the day I die.

  • @Hippypottamus

errr Rocking out to HAWKWIND. Sorry, typo. XD

  • @Hippypottamus

To be honest at first, i had no problems with my father concerning hearing hawkwind or any other kind of music in that time...

But i must say that Hawkwind is an absolutely highlight in my life from the age of 14 to these days now...

    Still genius music ...

    with kind regards from Germany..

    Uwe

  • @Hippypottamus That's cool you did that the year morrison died.

  • KINGS OF ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the first version , and it's the best. The Space ritual version was more driving, but this is a better floor stomper.

  • Yeah, I started listening to these guys a few years back. I like this album and Warriors on the Edge of time. Two best albums hands down for me.

  • Classic stuff! Pink Floyd invented space rock with 'Interstellar Overdrive' and 'Set the Controls For The Heart of The Sun' but

    Hawkwind went further with it.

  • Hawkwind ,well I feel one of the best bands ever from the UK,ever changing ,ever flowing .When I saw them first time (with the naked dancers)I saw the music of the future, they took risks and commerciality was not an issue ,the advance of music was more fun, Listen !,rap, techno, basslines ,rock ,synths ,drumbeats they are all there and many more styles,,,,,,,!!!!!!!!!!

This band is still going ,concerts year round and I would love to see them get some credit !

  • techno..not sure! BUT IF YOU RIDE THE BASS_LINE>>>>>TRIP OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!

  • Love that bass sound.,

  • One of the best bass lines evah.

  • Great night-driving music...Great memories!

  • Yeah you got it. In my teens in Australia in the seventies I used to get home after a long night session and just keep driving off into the morning stereo flat out this playing as well as other stuff ripping though an empty countryside. :-)

  • Snap!! I guess the kids now do their night driving to rap... +_+

  • @Honeysucklebommie Niiiice!

  • @Poopaloo55 I heard this in 1976 in australia, sydney. John a uni student ( hippie ) lived upstairs in a flat in bondi. Yes my parents hated this, but i went on to buy every album and also later the hawklords. These songs are the fondest memories of my 4 year Psychedelic / pot era wow,

  • @inzelvrub You're so right...it wasn't for parents (most unsuitable... haha!). I can't even listen to it today without going back to those amazing times. Thanks for replying!

  • Brilliant song.

  • awesome baseline def ahead of ther time

  • cool!

  • One Hawkwind classic! I love this song so much, those guys were way ahead of their time!

  • Excellent!

  • There must be somebody from The Orangery Cheltenham 1971 out there - or are you all dead? I remember you if you don't remember me. ken
