  • my 182 can do this. sportsman stol, kit 235 hp vgs, wing extension 40 ft total and aileron gap seals. takes off in 300 ft.

  • Hey Guys. What is that ???

    Keep PEACE !!!

I visited the Ellis Familiy over two years ago and it was a honor for me to meet them all. I flew Kirks Airplanes in the Wrangel Mountains and had a great time. Great man and accomplished pilot, Master Mechanic, great familiy and great airfield.

Sometimes I will come back. Never forget them. It is good to have such friends at the other side of planet !!!

  • (continued from previous post)

Then there is always the possibility that it was an accident, sometimes its hard to see people on the ground, but if you saw the plane in the distance turn and then fly right to you and blow your sheep off the mountain, it had to have been someone else because we are required to fly at a certain distance above the ground.

  • (continued from previous post)

So that leaves the options of it being someone else, or it was an accident. There are several air taxi services that operate in our area, they do not live in the area, or have anything to lose so they have a tendency to be rude, or not pay attention to what they are flying over.

They even buzzed one of our hunters this year, but luckily we had a camera.

    (continued in next post)

  • Mike/gyp-jet

If you got buzzed during a hunt one of three things must have happened

    1. It was an accident.

    2. It was intentional.

    3. It was someone else.

I asked Dad if he buzzed anyone intentionally during the last few years, he said he could not buzz people because he would lose his concession permit. Now Im not trying to blow smoke or anything here, but anyone who knows Kirk Ellis, knows that he wouldnt buzz someone to ruin their hunt. So that rules out option 2.

  • Mike, I think you are saying that my father buzzed you during a hunt.

Did you send him a email a while back?

We responded but the email was returned as undeliverable.

So I will ask what we asked in that email,

What color was the airplane that buzzed you wile hunting?

Did this happen recently or in the past?

    (continued in next post)

  • gyp-jet go back to ur little forest an cry to the trees idiot

  • amazing. what a great plane and great work!

  • I can tell you after getting to know the Ellis family over the past 10 years I can say that I am proud to know them and do buisness with them. The Hulk is a great airplane and I am looking forward to seeing the next project.

    Wup

  • Thank you for the kind words Maule10Y.

  • Oh yes, the Ellis'. They think they own the Wrangells just because they have hunted there forever. They ought to watch the movie "The Beach" and learn a few lessons in life.

  • (Kirks son talking here)

Whoh, I think you have the wrong guy here.

My grandfather may have been one of the early people that flew in the wrangles, but even he never said he clamed to them as his own.

I think the name Ellis and Wrangles just get used together often sometimes because we live here year round.

Is that the Beach with Leonardo DeCaprio,?

Ill have to check that one out.

    Is that you Jim?

I think there must have been some kind of a misunderstanding last year.

  • My name is Mike, not Jim. You sound nice enough though.

  • (Kirks son talking here)

We had just got a email from a Jimmy Simpson telling us he didnt like the Elliss, but he didnt specify a reason, and did not respond to our emails. And I thought that You and him may have been the same person.

    Sorry about the mistaken identity.

I'm not sure where this sudden influx of bad press is coming from, the Wrangles are much to big to be controlled, and we were always taught to respect it, and the people that came to visit it.

  • Is this really the place to bring your petty issues? Next time, keep it out of our faces. Just goes to show how insecure and immature you are. Take it in the alley if you must, but leave us out of it.

    Some people's kids...sheesh.

  • What are you, a liberal or something? You can't just ignore someone els's opinion that does not agree with yours, but you have to open your mouth and try to stifle it. Eat me loser. When you have a $10,000.00 hunt ruined because some jackasses think they own the mountains by setting up several false tent camps to keep people out, then you can open your pie hole, but until then, STFU. The internet is not for old men, so head on over to AARP for your Obama discount.

  • No, *you* can't keep *your* opinion to yourself and your opponent, so you sit and spew garbage for all of us to view who really want to look at the video. And then you accuse people of being liberals? And being seniors? Wow, you are a piece of psychiatric work. I don't have to call you names or berate you; you open your mouth and do it to yourself. You're immature, insecure and you're the best comedy relief I've had in my life. Have a nice day, Drama Queen.

  • You looked at my profile, so you are a racist. Also, you need to send back the money you spent on that night class in psychology. If you just want to see the video, look at it and quit reading comments. Aren't you old enough to ignore people? You are a serious racist.

  • Wow, this is getting good! Ya know, I think I can take some shame in my posts, because it harks right back to what my uncle, the rancher, told me when he was alive and I was young: "Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear or a fool from any direction". Shame on me for ignoring that. By the way: I'm also 42, so what does that tell you? That the pot calls the kettle "black"? You really should quit while you're not behind as much, Mike. Have a nice day.

  • Wow, I have been away for a while, and didnt realize that things were getting crazy on the messages here.

Im not trying to stir things up more, but I have to get this straightened out.

Mike, I think you are saying that my father buzzed you during a hunt.

I can only put short comments here so I will put the rest of this message in other posts.

  • yep I came to see to nice flying - and got it. Nuff Said.

  • Exactly. I saw the 4-place Super Cub on the sidebar and had to see this plane, it looked remarkable. Didn't expect to see a Hatfield-McCoy-type gripe, and silly ol' me...I commented. The plane speaks for itself. Good job!

  • Yeah Youtube certainly brings that out of people doesn't it? I have seen the most innocuous topics produce the craziest threads! Might have dipped an oar in myself once or twice :-) This is pretty tame compared to many but its unexpected! Hasn't turned into America v Islam. Yet. :-) Too many people keep too much stuff bottled up inside though so maybe it is an outlet of sorts. And yep - nice AC. One of these or something like a Zenith STOL 801 will definitely be in my future! cheers John

  • America...the land of the exclusive range and the home of the extremes. Middle-ground is no longer her hallmark: we're never happy unless we're fighting over something: Coke vs. Pepsi, Chevy vs. Ford, Dem vs. Rep, whole vs. skim, gay vs. straight, David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar, you get the idea. At this rate, we'll be warrior Nazis in no time. Seems we'll never mellow out here in the USA, but then again no empire lasts forever...

  • Great video, I love the open (plexiglass?) sides. I'm also a horn player and would love to know what the background music you used was.....didn't recognize it, very cool.

  • My father-in-law has been using a plane just like that flying for a guide i the Dillingham area. They are an awesome airplane. It eats baggage for lunch. Was yours 1262 before or after the bushwheels? I would love to build one some day, its seems like the best compromise of space and preformance. Is the 2300lb cubcrafters stc compatible with the Sullivan stcs?

  • The 1262 was with the bushwheels.

As for the 2300lb cubcrafters STC, I am not sure how it stands on that. But during the certification process Dave Hendricks Ron Sullivan tested the fuselage to 2300lb but the SCT approval process was never completed.

I put the 2000lb whipline SCT on this aircraft.

  • Mr. Ellis,

I am a big fan. I'm sure you've already answered my question, but I'd like to hear it anyway. You ever consider a Franklin 220?

    DuneMoose

  • Yes I have thought about putting a Franklin 220 or something a little larger. But I have not been able to get past the FAA for certification, but I am going to try for the 200 lycoming with a constant speed prop in the next 4-place I am going to build

    (iron man themed).

  • u build it?

  • Yes, I built the whole fuselage from 4031 tubing and a set of plans. And then installed Supercub wings and tail feathers. The windshield is from a Cessna 180.

  • The word 'awesome' comes to mind

  • Hi

    pas mal du tout !

    mais connaissez vous un real

    VSTOL

    name is YUMA ;

    build in France

    Fred

  • Cool job on filming and editing you guys!!! =3

  • I had heard throught the grape vine that there were two origanl ones built by Dave and Ron, and one of those was wrecked and then turned back into a two place cub. is this the other one or did you build this yourself? or is that not true? I saw one forsale at Merril Field a few years back so i was wondering how many are out there... very nice looking cub.

  • This one I built myself, starting with blue prints from Dave and a pile of tubing. I know the one you saw at Merrill Field, that is the only other one flying that I know about.

The HULK is working well for me and am flying it where I used to take my Cub or PA12.

  • So this is not a PA-14?? but rather A highly modified 18 with a double wide fuselage.

  • Yes it's a PA-18 that's been widened. Dave Hendrix and Ron Sullivan have the STC so it is a certified aircraft. I currently have it on my part 135 certificate air taxi.

  • nice bird.

  • I will come back friend Kirk !!!

  • This is a real inspiration to build a plane like this.
