Fuckin amazing song. I need more music like this, any suggestions? By the way is this "trip hop"? If it was sped up it would kinda sound like a Jungle track
My god, you are so right. My housemate drives me nuts with his shitty punk pop taste in music. I wish he'd open his eyes and appreciate that playing 3 chords over an over is not a song!
exacly pure art . this is gold.. the sounds man. so divine.. so dark mysterious. and most important divinity in the video. god is the reason for the video. that's art.. from the undergroud..
juangraffin, Unkle are a originally UK outfit, formed by James Lavell and tim goldsworthy in '94, Goldsworthy left over a dispute about the direction the group were heading in, and he went on to form DFA with David Holmes, it was at this point Lavell brought in Shadow sometime between '96 & '98 to release psyence fiction. Altho, i think it was Shadow who really helped define their sound.
There's a part in this song where it cuts to a sample, and all I can make out it "There you are...". I've heard it before somewhere and it's driving me crazy! Does anyone know what samples they used in this song?

hear we see the most hunted and feared being of all time. commonly seen around the north pole, and Occasionally seen in burger king,it now seems this feared monstrosity is stalking people on tube stations their way home from work (or the pub)why you ask??....the answer is simple. because he can.

this is a classic stereotype music video where at the beginning we have three whites and two blacks in an elevator where two whites are nervous because of the apperance of the blacks and the other white male at 1:30 when the black male moves her hair its showing that looks are decieving. the rest of the video is just the girl going nuts in her own world where she just cant handle it anymore she dystroys the closest thing to her
You ever heard about the Rorschach tests?, this is a good example, you see what does your crappy head keep inside. It's a great song and video, enjoy it and let the racism crap aside.
her not getting off the train means that you wont always be able to go in life where u life.. and when your old u will realise that u ended up being in a place where u did never expected yourself to be in !
I remmember that when this song came out, I was just like 10.I love bouth, video and song.Thougher it brings for me subjects such as Heroin chic, which was big part of the 90's stetics, and I'm against drug addiction but the stetical acomplsh by photograper such as Craig Mcdean are AMAZING!, and by the way since the 90's fashion is beign use gain (little by little), don't be afraid if the trend comes back, probably with another name, because of heroins hihgh price, obiously!
I don't get the bit at the end I must be a stupid fuck or 'fuak' as you put it, as well...would you be so kind as to explain it to me codrxb ?? PS love the song and the visuals btw
wow, ich erinner mich auch an den moment, als ich den clip das erste mal sah.... hammer! der song und das video... da bleibt man dran hängen, echt wahnsinn...
I love this song one of my all-time faves. But that video was real mediocre. Especially considering the depth and texture of the song that video kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Despite the cutie on the train.
amazing and Ian Brown voice makes the music even more amazing in my opinion... since i have heard this for the first time with some atention never stoped to hear it amazing
When I first heard this song, I imagined it being the score at the ending for a modern day Kung Fu flick, with the fighter walking down the streets of NY, finding the culprits and the assasins and taking them out one by one. what can I say, Kung Fu flicks were a great epoch in history. And UNKLE...can't get enough of it.
anyone seen the video of shadow and lavelle performing this live with ian brown on TOTP? lavelle is such a fucking poser, he goes off and leaves shadow to do most of the work half way through.
It's always been known and stated from the beginning that Lavelle provides the concept and Shadow provides the music. It's never been advertised, it's never been shown any differently. Although I've never seen that footage you speak of, I don't see anything wrong with what you just said. Shadow wrote all the music (unless specified) anyway.
Tube chaos there. Firstly she gets on what looks like 1996/95 tube stock at what is obviously Aldwych tube station, which is on the Piccadilly line, which uses 1973 stock. Furthermore for the rest of the video she is on a Circle Line C-Stock train, where the hooded figure lies at a sub-surface station, not the original.
I am a total addict for this song and video. Shekhem, yes there's a way out - enough anarchy for a new system. You can be a particle or a cause. ;-) Choice is yours the tube stops in many stops until it stops.
I agree with the comments here. The song/video is about loneliness & isolation. The hooded figure symbolises her Death - destiny. The train symbolises her journey into oblivion. The train doors shutting on her symbolises she feels trapped in her existence. The hooded figure finally meets her. The Old lady symbolises the girl after all the years and life wasted away. Its depressing lol, but its very moving, inspiring and real. It is an addictive video because i can relate to the girl
To me the video should be taken as it is. All the opinions of what this is about are really relay insightful. However I just think that this movie should be looked at for what it is not philosophically , like the movie eye for an eye. That should be looked at philosophically. Still UNKLE KICKS ASS!
In my humble opinion, it's about how we tend to confuse independance with freedom, a tunnel for a open road, and how this independance/tunnel quickly leads to self-destruction and loneliness. A wake up call for hippies, ain't no way out of the system.

yes, punk pop sucks monkey balls, we can all agree on that.
but the problem is not the tools (3 chords) but what you do with it. Wire wrote awesome songs, with just one chord. The difference is creativity.
