I love your take on systems and processes. My day job is Linux Systems Administrator, and I find that systems and processes are the most useful timesavers, and just as important or perhaps more important quality enhancers around.
I have a number of friends who are starting/running small businesses, and I try so hard to inculcualte the idea of repeatable process, but they just don't get it, so they spend hours repeating the same task the long way, each day. Well spotted.
Thank you for your inspirational and instructional guidance. I am a pro photographer but Im a complete mess and I am going to be spending this year of my life to sort it all out. Just needed a pick me up and this message was perfect for me. I know what my problems are, just have to face them and solve them, one bite at a time :)
Nice vid Matt but the problem is that I dont have time to become a pro photographer like Ive always dreamed because people like you keep making these cool vids on how to be a photographer and I need to spend all my spare time watching them lol. ThanksMatt. All very true. Too true in my case.
@StinkyWizzleTits haha - well this is the one time I will ask you stop watching my videos (or at least cut out other time wasting activities) and go achieve something great.
Hi Matt no offense, I love the way you teach photography, but THIS is your best video! Great photographer and a great man. I have a "new life" plan and your speech is really inspirational to me!
I am entering the world of pro photo. And this is the kind of video I like to see. I for so long would dream of what it would be like to take photos for a living. But never did anything about it. After a fun shoot for my sister I decided its time to take action. Get my ass up off the couch and start doing work that I enjoy. During the week it is hard to get out of bed. Weekends when I have a shoot that day I'm up early and ready to go with minimal effort. Thanks for this and all of your videos.
Matt, I wasn't expecting this video to give me anything. In June this year I am also 5 years into my plan, I am doing ok with my business (only me). However, I have to say that your talk was inspirational, especially the section on Systems and processes. I have quite an OCD type personality for organising, but I had not considered written instructions that could be followed by others. I'm now off to get some systems in place!! THANK YOU!
I just started a photography business and I live in Brooklyn New York. It can be very overwhelming sometimes and prioritizing is key. I just wanna thank you for all of your hard work in putting out your tutorials because I know first hand how hard this game can be. Keep up the great work. You're an inspiration to us all.
I love this video, it's so inspirational. I love the Ghandi quote you used "Be the change you want to see in the world." I went on a two month trip to Thailand as a leadership course sort of thing with my school and that was the one quote that the teacher who came along kept on using. I've really got it stuck in my head and it really means a lot to me.
Wow, Matt, you may not be Tony Robbins and I have never been to a self promotion type of lecture but, hey, if that's what they are like I can see why people go to them. Most open and honest of you to express yourself that way. Rant, I don't think so. Plan your work and work your plan. Am more motivated now thatnks to your covering what I expected from the header was gonna be pretty ho hum. Now stop reading this and get back to your schedule. :)
excellent advise to people there mate , work out WHO U WANT TO BE and then MAKE IT HAPPEN , i did exactly that about 5 months back and now even tho im facing huge challenges and problems to solve to get where i want (to be a respected pro phototog) im loving every second of it because its who and what i want to be . and fear of failing is all that stands in the way of success at ANYTHING , TRY - FAIL - TRY HARDER = WIN
Great video Matt and your message is very true! This info is very similar to how I run my business. I love photography but unfortunately don't make my living at it. I use these principles in my real profession and they works wonders. Changes your mind set as well. Keep up the great job!
Hey great tips...when I first started I was all over the place with post and photo shoots, just recently I'm allocated time now to what needs to be done and when to do it. I'll admit its hard to stick to it but it's actually helps me to be more productive with my time now. Still though it was great hearing it from another person's point of view. Awesome videos man look forward to the next one.
