  • @Hyde209 A popular sea shanty and drinking song that has been found mainly in England, but also in Canada and Australia. Ironically, as it's often thought to be an Irish song, no traditional versions have been found in Ireland. Presumably it became an Irish drinking song when recorded by The Clancy Brothers, and The Dubliners ensured its reputation as a part of the Irish tradition

    Yes I understand I did a wrong assumption about the origins of this song.

    But I never intended to put any particular value in the word "Irish". You see for all I care this song can be from Africa, China or any other country. The main point is that it's a good song. I hold as little right to call it my own as anybody else. That's my opinion.

    But it is a really good song so I can totaly understand if somebody want's to name it theirs. Thanks for you comment.

  • if i say it i'll get me arse kicked for sure! but it's true! this is the best version of all for me grog! i know all the dubliners fans are going to come after me for saying it but it's true! I love the dubliners version of this song too, i'm not taking anything away from it, i'm just saying!

  • Very good! Hell no, it's damb good! There's a lot of versions of this song on youtube, and you did it good! Let's keep the history straight though, this song has English origins though. Not taking anything away from your work here though, you nailed it perfectly!
