  • when i saw his audition i told my wife theres the next idol

  • @harrylongballslol oh yea great job taylor snow patrol wooooooo

  • Great gotta love Taylor

  • the old man singing the song George Harrison has nothing to do but be an idiot about that song tansiquiera prensentando ask permission to sing damn

  • Nice version of an old song.. luv it..

  • You want a different twist to this song? This kid slays 'Hack-job Hicks'.... and actually has talent, whereas Hick's should stick to playing at birthday parties. Plus, this kid can play his guitar without watching his fingering like a beginning guitar student like Hick's does.

    youtube.com/watch?v=mRcMluW_tBw&feature=related

  • Yech! ..... nails on a chalkboard.... cats-in-heat fighting.... screaming babies.... this cover song is worse than ALL those put together. Nice guy - but just middling talent.

  • Haters are gonna hate. Taylor is great. F U haters.

  • @lambertslovelee Ok... so now you're going to discredit your opinion by proving you're a moron by lowering yourself to adolescent obscenities? LOL..... n-i-i-i-c-e!

  • Hicks is awful in every YouTube video I come across.... I simply cannot believe this guy won American Idol. Don't get me wrong, I think he comes across as a very nice guy.... but I just cannot wrap my mind around hisconstant butchering of decent songs.

  • @tgilldesign There are many people who love him and how he is able to change up songs. That is how he won Idol. Don't bother listening to him if he has never pleased your ear.

  • @oldikins I stumbled across him as I was watching 'covers' of 'Here Comes the Sun'.... clicked on his to see it....discovered it was probably the WORST song ever sung.... looked at some more of his stuff, and decided that ALL his stuff is consistently the WORST example of no-talent music around. I wouldn't hire this guy to sing at a kid's birthday party. After watching a few vids of him, I wanted to permanently seal off my ears.... no worries, I WON'T be listening to any more of his 'stuff."

  • @tgilldesign haters gonna hate. And honestly if you're going to bash someone hard like that, you have to be able to prove that you could any better. Which i highly doubt you could.

  • @TheTeaBiskit No, not really. A person doesn't *have* to be better at the thing he is bashing of another person. Lybian dictator Muammar Gaddafi is a douche-bag.... by your logic, that means I should be a better dictator than him if I'm going to bash him?? Sorry pal... your logic is flawed. Hicks cannot hold a candle to vocals by scores of 'unknown' YouTube cover singers. The only reason he has a small following is that he took the time to show up for the Idol auditions...

  • @oldikins No... he won Idol because he is a nice, likable guy.... No way Hicks should have won Idol.... Idol has had several seasons where the obvious talent did not win. Hicks is kind of like "I know this guy who isn't half bad"...... trouble is; he isn't 'Half-good' either. LOL

  • is that a gibson? cause it doesnt look like one actually

  • This guy can sing. AND he can play.

This song is as open to interpretation as any. Love this version.

  • Hicks' version of "Here Comes the Sun" is so out of the box!!! I'm always amazed how this musician surprises and pushes the envelope so boldly with such an original version and interpretation of a song that seems untouchable and yet performs it so confidently. Nothing short of "Magic" I'd say.

  • You couldn't pay me to listen to this, He ruint the song as much as Dave Mathews did on that Elvis tribute. Popular music in the US. has really went down the tubes.Listen to some bands from England and you'll see what I'm talking about. PS. I'm an American.

  • @9pixals

If you want to be a critic, then learn to spell.

  • Here Comes the Sun? Really?

  • @fnj6 Taylor is the anti-corporate of the Idols. He always went his own way and still does. He would do this ten different ways at ten different sittings. Perhaps you would like his performances more than you think. Unless you are a purist.

  • Excellent!!

  • Taylor's version here is much like like the George Benson one on youtube... almost an homage to Benson.

    Beautiful.

  • Wonder why in the hell during the Idol tour he played the guitar like he wasn't that experienced? I was there at one of the venues for the tour and now comparing it to this and more recent performances why the change? Even when I listened to the "Early Works" thought the more difficult guitar parts must've been someone else playing. Last saw a live perf in 07. Had lots of guitars lined up to "wrangle" but he didn't play like this at all. Why the guise when he "had it" all along?

  • I've never seen anybody strum like that and the guitar has a cool sound to it, maybe from the distortion of the vid?

  • that was great! love Taylor Hicks!

  • This sucks...No one can top George Harrison's guitar playing, song writing, singing or legacy except John Lennon and Paul McCartney...this sounds like an ordinary cover you would hear on Youtube, that is the difference between a legend and an amature.

  • @markrobinault

Taylor Hicks is not trying to do a GH version. Taylor Hicks is entitled to do his own version. Sheesh basher!

  • @Angels941 You're right, he's entitled to his own version. I was just saying, this was an amateur cover. I've seen better versions of this song on YouTube with people singing in their homes.

  • @markrobinault

    Good for them!

  • fuck taylor "dicks" i hate him he fuckin ruined this song BURN IN HELL TAYLOR!!!!!

  • @ecwfanatic22 thank you!! i wanted to punch every one who liked this!!!

  • @ecwfanatic22 What an over the top remark.

  • @ecwfanatic22

Take many chill pills and go view someone else on YT.

  • @ecwfanatic22

    Excellent job Taylor!

  • john lennon just climbed out of his grave because he heard this...he's on his way to beat this guy's ass

  • @pandabussoms

No, he's going to beat your ASS for your disparaging comment.

  • @pandabussoms No, he's going to beat your BIG ASS.

  • Cool!! Taylor is always hot!!Junebug

  • loser if u knew anything about this song then you would know that your trashing it with this crappy cover

  • Excellent job Taylor! I just love the tone of his voice. Brilliant!

  • @jwyberg i agree dude

  • he should be arrested for fucking this song up like that . some people are too easily impressed.

  • I think the recording doesn't do justice to the guitar work there.

  • Me thinks George Harrison would be mighty proud of this version .... Especially the guitar..

  • Outstanding Guitar Go Taylor!!!!!!

  • For all of you who say it sucked. Why don't you think about the fact that you're not the one singing it, nor are you the one with a title in music. So drop the douche comment and the other bull crap hes a good singing and a great artist in music!

  • what a bag of douche

  • He did good but it still sucked.

  • Are we just bashing the guy because he was an american idol winner? i mean, this doesnt sound like the beatles, but at least its an interesting version of the song. And the guitar playing... its pretty intense, and takes a little more skill than you think. His voice is damn good, and definitely puts an interesting twist on the tune. Good Work Taylor!

  • this is messed up):

  • @lynnster411: And yet there are others - even with music degrees - who think it's brilliant...

  • Lot of heart and soul i love it

  • This sounds much like Richie Havens' version.

  • nice version i am fan of the beatles since i have 12 now im 20 and his performance is pure feeling

  • "Tiffty:" He won A.I. for his singing and performance, NOT for his guitar-playing. AND another thing, you're wrong about Taylor's novice guitar skills.

  • Awesome! Such intense feeling is displayed by Taylor Hicks that I want to hear more as he shares his world with us. Thank you for bringing this great multitalented entertainer into my world

  • Love this.

  • i respect that he has tried putting his own spin on it. it takes guts to do that. big props. unfortunately its just not that good

  • wtf at first i did not know what song he was playing nobody does it better than george harrison

  • Taylors spin on it....A True artist!...Go see him in person if u ever get the chance...really...

  • Knock it on the head.

There is no substitute for the original, but this is the most daring and impressive cover.

Very original. Very NOT shit !!

  • Awesome interpretation!

  • this is butchery .... so lame .... I guess anyone is entitled to their "interpretation" but the guitar work was amatuer.

  • Um, that's amateur. YWIA. Learn how to spell before you internet slam someone.

  • I've always appreciated Beatles music but never cared much for this particular song - that is, until seeing this interpretation by Taylor. It works well as an acoustic song, and taylor infuses it with genuine emotion, a special talent he has over and above his obvious vocal skills. I like his slowed-down interpretation, with the interesting guitar styling - simple and evocative. Great Job, Taylor!!!

  • that was terrible

  • georges guitar work is absolutley destroyed. demolished.

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds like Richie Havens covering George Harrison.

  • another failed attempt of copying a great song off of george harrison...

  • I'm still waiting for this guy to cover an Eddie Hinton song. A whole cd of Hinton's work from Hicks - there's a cd I'd buy.

  • he is more of an entertainer than a singer....but a good singer no doubt

  • I love Taylor's voice. He could sing the phone book and it would sound great.

  • I think Taylor is cool, when I saw him on AI he was my fav. from the begining. But this version here...hmmm I don't know...I think his other Beatles version, Don't Let Me Down is much, much better, which I can hear over and over again. Btw.- What I Taylor up to these days? Still out touring?

  • This is early on in the first tours. He has never stopped touring. Now he is with Grease and playing gigs in every city they are in, selling his new CD. He just did an acoustic gig and did DLMD after a long time. I saw him live several times this year. He's great/ Never the same twice.

  • Okay, thanks for the info, oldkins ;)

  • WooHoo Taylor! We need some more acoustic like this. Wonder how Maybe You Should will sound acoustic?

  • oops didnt mean to say that ......was messin with the audio......that was great stuff!!

  • your mama sells fishy men on the see shore

  • this is really great!

  • Interesting version. Despite the poor video quality, one can still "guess" a great performance.

  • i think he does a better job than people are giving him credit for on here....its just a poor quality video. u cant hear the guitar worth a crud....videos really deter quality u know!!

  • Very bad

  • Why are you following his vids then? I see your name on lots of Taylors vids. Stop watching them if you don't like him.

  • You do? I was just curious on his version of here comes the sun and I didn´t like it. I have a right of an opinion, dont I? And no I don´t usually watch his videos. Hardly know who he is. / Jens

  • Taylor is no Beatles but he's a good singer. Quit judging and don't watch him if you don't like him.

  • Love the passion and phrasing. He can sure play that guitar! Great encore 6 months onto the tour. Check out his new CD The Distance esp the Target bonus of Indiscriminate Acts of Kindness.

  • *cough*

u have a great voice but i didnt like the version

    but i really did cough

  • way to scream it taylor... oh... I mean sing it... sorry

    nice guitar though

  • LOVE THIS VERSION!!!

    Love the Richie Havens version!

    Love The Beatles!!!

    Great interpretation by Taylor Hicks!!!

  • TERRIBLE VERSION

  • very nice !

  • Simple! Don't watch people you don't like. Many people like this version.

  • i thought he forgot about half the lyrics in the song no to mention its completley out of key & not even played the same way

it doesnt even sound the original at all..as simon would say i think that was completly terrible

  • terrible

  • cool version, takes the song somewhere new.

  • Not worthy of that Taylor T5!!!

  • a richie havens feel not too bad !

  • I made it about 52 seconds that Ill never get back.. that was ghastly. souiw

    eeeeee!!!!!!!!!

  • all hail taylor hicks - you take a song made of gold and turn it to base metal crap - its reverse alchemy.

  • wtf is he playing on his guitar seriously how did he win idol

  • very soulfulll love it

  • sometimes you have to be there....

  • Ouch

  • is this really a beatles song ,i can't tell

  • I think it's pretty good.

  • fail

  • The guitar is fine, but the singing, man, he ruined the song...

  • this is crap

  • men... this isn't even a star worth...

  • THIS IS HORRIBLE!

  • THAT IS A CRIME!!!!

  • I love Taylor's voice on this song. I love his voice on all songs.

  • Terrible

  • Damn. That was good. I had negative respect for taylor till I saw this. Now it's up 12 points to... 4.

  • This guy sucks at this song.

  • Unrecognizable: adjective

defying recognition as e.g. because of damage or alteration

My opinion of the song, you're welcome to yours.

  • I love it!!!! Taylorized!

  • Look up Richie Haven's very well known cover of this song. Taylor is borrowing heavily from it, at the very least recognize the strumming similarities and how they affect the meter.

    And please.... "unrecognizable"?

    What are you, 8?

  • I'm a Taylor fan...but this is unrecognizable. Taylor is a major talent but will never be main stream. In concert his voice is amazing.

  • I can say for myself that the Beatles were a powerful band. Even though they did a lot of bubble gum music they were still complex works. Their vocals were top notch. I heard a cover done by Coldplay and even his voice can't nail it the way Paul and the gang did. America covered a Beatles song and it sounded really good buand made me realize how great the Beatles really are. Imagine being there to hear the Beatles light up a stadium? Must have been an awesome sight.

  • i applaud the effort, but-boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  • I am a huge Beatles fan but have an open mind on all music..Saw Taylor live many, many times and I dare u to go see him on his next tour..My boyfriend teased me all the time till I took him to see Taylor live..He was amazed at his talent..Great version Taylor!! I play guitar and have had my own version since 1976...See ya on tour.

  • were it not for the lyrics this song would be unrecognizable as "here comes the sun". this was not an interpretation it was a completely different song.

  • taylor is so amazing yet has disappeared from the main stream...i don't think he fits in the pop world that is why we don't get to see him that much but i really miss him!!!!

  • He's working on a new album. Hopefully with a new label he'll be treated much better than how he was with Arista, and get some promotion for his CD. I miss him too. :(

  • He is going on tour with Grease, working on the new album and may have some other things going. Check out his myspace page,

  • Was this was sung as an encore? Love it - love the emotion and intensity of the peformance. I'd like to hear more verses, though, please.

  • i personnally enjoy George Harrisons alot more but this guy is VERY talented and made an excellent cover.... so yea i gave 5 starts cause this guy can not be dissed for this performance

  • Awesome interpretation! I'd buy it in a minute if he sold it on ITunes.

  • Music is about being open minded to all interpretations.

  • I don't think he was trying to be better than the original.

  • FUNNY! I was listening to the original when I seen this and turned the original off at half way mark to be amazed with no idea how good this guy is. 5 Stars from me. I viewed him only as an American Idol blah blah blah til today. I'm impressed as I play guitar too. Very Nice. Seriously though what are YOU doing? Looking on youtube for ppl playing beatles covers and you wont stop until you find a cover better than the original???? Get A life man!Listen to Oldikins you might learn something!!!

  • Maybe a song shouldn't be changed, but they are all the time, and TH is not one to sing the original versions.

  • Wow!! That is such an amazing versioN! Way to go Taylor Hicks!!

  • I really love this song and Taylor does a great job with it. Taylor really shines in an acoustic setting like this. Just terrific!

  • What does this song, sung on tour, have to do with his winning? Over two years ago?

  • You're biased because you're a Beatles Fan.

Of course George was better. He wrote it.

But this is a unique and different version. His own take.

  • FAIL at trying to make his own unique version.

why even try, no one can do it like george

  • This has to be the most unique version I've ever heard. Very nice Taylor!

  • They love him on Broadway.......

  • can i ask u what is a bar mitzvah?

  • I had the pleasure of hearing him live. Honestly, this is the tip of the iceberg. He's awesome.

  • Really different version with the flourishes and all. Never saw him play that way before, interesting technique. That voice is a national treasure.

  • monkeycat........ If you have not been to his concerts, make sure you go on the next tour. He is the most versatile singer and musician I have ever seen. Changes things up with each concert.

  • i thought he won because of the soooooooooooooooooooooul patrooooooooooooooooooooooool! ow! lol

  • Even though I am a big George Harrison fan I ejoyed Tay's version. Thanks for sharing this vid.

  • i found this while searching for covers so i could learn this song, and i truly enjoyed this. really good interpretation in my opinion

  • If a song is truly great, it will be performed by others. Otherwise, it will likely be forgotten.

  • Nice cover, he's like an American Newton Faulkner.

  • i usely like him but this cover didn't i like

  • He did a great job on this song. He is original and genuine. I am a huge Beatles fan and don't generally like others to do their tunes, but Taylor did it right!

  • This is Taylors take on Sun Ra's version of this song performed at woodstock. The original woodstock. Taylor's great and from my hometown

  • That was Richie Havens at Woodstock in '69.

  • My previous comment on Taylor has nothing to do with Taylor himself whom I like and picked early on to win American Idol. It has to do with Beatles music in general. It is very difficult for anyone to cover a Beatles song and do justice to it. As one musical performer said, Beatles music is pristine and needs to be left untouched. I agree, even in regards to someone who is as talented as Taylor Hicks.

  • Well then, you won't be happy to hear that he is doing a Beatles tribute concert at Wolftrap in August.

  • this version just goes to show how great he is at interpreting a song and making it his own ... and then there's that awesome voice ... loved it!
