best log splitter ever! we bought one last year and we run it on a case IH 434 and i'd say we'd split over a ton per hour! what an impressive machine they are :D
I have a PTO log splitter that's very similar to this one, but the one in this video is better. I have one that's called a "Bark Buster." It was outlawed here in the U.S. back in the late '80s or early '90s- can't remember. People were getting seriously injured and killed. Yes, it is dangerous but so is a chainsaw and every other piece of rotating equipment. I LOVE MY BARK BUSTER!
For the HC1X shown and the HC1X wide platform we say 25hp is ideal although loads of grey fergie owners run them - 20hp I think - plus we have had a few happy Kubota owners with 17hp. The larger variant - the HC2X shown on the web but not in video yet ideally needs 50hp
try some hickory or green oak,, dry oak is not a test really,, the other problem is its not cost efective to let the hour meter on any tractor tic just to split wood,
@timbco430 - Thanks for the comments. Green oak no problem, nor green beech or yew. We don't have hickory here so can't try. Lots of us run Hycracks on older dedicated tractors just for a splitter. It's no problem and very efficient. 5000 machines out there - we love 'em.....
Very GOOD SAFE utilization of what has always been an intriguing but hazardous idea. Your bed width versus screw height solves the spin block problem. And your bed depth/screw length/ height keep the operator away from the part that bites! I speak as the owner of a 20 Ton vertical/horizontal hydraulic owner/user. Do you have an USA dealer?
The Reason we ask for approval is that we are demonstrating a serious tractor mounted log-splitter here. A number of the comments we reject are idiotic, badly spelt you say spelled and in some cases profane. We dont want those comments thanks. As to a questionable product; if you bought a HyCrack screw splitter you would see when it was delivered that the serial number would be over 4700. So there are nearly 5000 customers out there now, happy users with a big pile of logs and warm houses.
Hello honeybees1 - Everybody's entitled to their opinion even if yours is the wrong one! We don't have the Sears splitters in the UK but there are plenty of vertical ones. We like the screw type PTO splitter because it's simple and copes with all wood including tough and knotty hardwood. Many vertical types struggle here and are slower as you have the return stroke to deal with. The HyCrack rates at 40tonnes, check the price of a decent 40t vertical.
we have one of these, very good :D

A Sears vetical splitter is MUCH better no lifting and a cleaner splitt.

The splitters are CE approved and they are supplied with an emergency stop cord for the engine stop that attaches to the guard rail.
