  • I love his comments about regular schools. The age-grade system is total fail.

  • Russell Means is true man! True men will cry! Let it out, Russell, let it out! My friends are Lakota, i've lived with the Lakota for about 2-3 weeks on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, i speak Lakota! I'm in love with them and i have an extended family who are Navajo. May the great spirit protect all native nations!

  • Russel Means is a great man speaks of only the truth.

  • I am white but my kids are part lakota, their great grandfather was Cheif

Swift Bear, I lived on the Rosebud reservation for several years. My parents looked down on me for this- they were upperclass and did not understand why I wanted to live in poverty. I have seen both ways of life and can tell you that the Lakota people were genuine and real- they are truely a part of the earth- not an alien species seeking to consume and exploit natural resources. I weep for what my ancestors have done.

  • Great interview! i never learn the language but im proud to be native!

  • Russell speaks with a lot of pain in his heart.

  • I think that people of almost every nation committed crimes against humanity during history, only numbers were different. I ask everyone here, what is a tolerable number? 10, 100? 1000? 10000? 100000? 1000000? I say there´s no difference! 1 person killed is 1 too much, no matter of which belief, nation, or "race". SINCE WW2, there were more than 150 armed conflicts all over the world (some of them still going on!). It seems, as if mankind still have not learned their lessons.

  • Every tribe should start a total immersion school. Like Russ said, if we lose language, we lose the rest of our culture. If we lose culture, we just become another skin color, and a dying one at that.

  • Imagine communities with no jobs, no economic development,no effective police force, no grocery stores, no parks for children, no majors, no city council and rampant crime and drugs. This is reality for native families on the navajo reservation in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado.

  • Imagine communities with no effective police force, no grocery stores, no parks for childern, no jobs, no economic development, no mayor, no city council, no water in homes, no electricity. This is reality for native american families on the navajo reservation in New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. Many young navajo's have to leave the reservation to find a job. Crime and drugs are rampant on all reservations. The Truth.

  • Civilizations rise and they fall. The situation seems designed to not be solvable, as the powers that be are working over all of us, and they seem to want to feed on our collective sorrow. The new tendency to teach the young white people to feel guilt and shame, opposite to keeping the older generations in the dark, is not working; it is not healthy to give OR receive help under that type of pressure. To yearn to see the white man go down is just another form of racism, so what is the answer?

  • Russel Means has been fighting a losing battle to save his people's culture and rights his entire life. Since the siege of wounded knee to the present, this guy has never backed down. God bless him, but im afraid that after hes gone the last public voice for indian affairs will be gone.

  • As of right now, it is discouraged for white people to learn Native languages because they want their race to remain pure, sort of like a eugenics program. What Russel should be discussing are the social implications of the social phenomena that are taking place, get anthropologists and sociaologists involved and debate what he and "his people" can do to overcome those systemic problems.

  • I feel that Russell Means speaks the truth about not only HIS people but for all of us. After all, we are all human beings that share the earth and this country. The truth is the truth. And you cant get away from that.

  • If passionate belief and a true heart could bring about a change, then Russell would already have achieved that.

He walks in the steps of spiritual elders like Fools Crow, trying to make the blind see, and the deaf to hear what is really going on.

We can make a difference by learning to SEE, not just look; to LISTEN, not just hear.

Then, after thinking about it, we need to go out and make a positive difference. However, we also need the wisdom to know WHAT to do.

  • Had to leave rez for a college education. Growing up on the Navajo rez in the back country was ok, Grama took me ceremonies and made me herd sheep. But Shiprock, that was a way different story. Too much drugs. Lost many relatives in that cesspool. Murders, suicides, cop shoot outs.Cousins dog even dragged back a body once. It was freaky because at 1point the murders were so rampant newspapers were questioning the ability of the police to keep the community safe, a community of 10,000 @ the most.

  • Diggin through trash....I've seen this all my life with some folks living in the innercity. Few have understood the loss of dignity that would force someone to do such. Language loss, tragedy. My grandparents spoke their Native languages and none of us do today. Once u move from the land, u begin to forget. Immersion programs, important, but I think that bilingual/biculturalism is best...to be able to survive on both sides. We have to master ours and theirs aswell.

  • i feel hes pain i am 95% indian taino tribe and 5% spaniard and i feel very sad because we dont have any more room in the western land any more the president makes new reforms everyday that only works for theirs people must of them are whites or blacks but what about my people are indigenous people we are in the middle of no where looking east or west to find a place to rest and we look at the sun screaming for our day of justice to come and help us

  • Excellent Video -- Genocide is alive and like he said, just look at the reservations like Rosebud and Pine Ridge. Not to mention the ones here in Michigan. It is disgusting and we should be ashamed that anyone is living in these conditions and nothing is being done to change it.

  • @toosiejoie yes we should approach the president and ask if he would allow his family, mother, grandmother, children, etc. to live in such diabolical conditions

  • white people are poor too

  • Russell has ALWAYS been such an ingenious man!! He's not only a true champion for the Lakota ppl but for ALL Native First Nations, Inuit and Metis people throughout the western hemisphere!! Bless you Russell!!

  • I know how he feels...In language there is life! Immersion schools work! I just hope that they work in the Highlands and in Ireland and for the Lakota too the way they have in NZ and Wales.

    O Ghaidheil, o caite 'n deach t' uaill

'Nad fhine 's 'nad chanan 's do thir?

O Gael, where has your pride in your race and your

    language and your country gone?

  • Terrible indeed. But who has the answers ?

    Or any answers ?

What are they ? Closing the reservations would disperse them and mean an end to their culture, wouldn't it ?

  • I hear my brother speak and we will be with you with wings,

    Isis of Sophia

    Tribe of the Muses

  • I have actually read the bible and if this so called christian country actually believed the words of this book there should not be a hungry or homeless person of any color in this land. So if any of you 'beleivers' actually do believe, please remember the Lakota people and all American Indians in concentration camps.

  • Be thankful that we don't read the Bible literally or use it for an example. There are matters in the Bible, said to be done by the express commandment of God, that are shocking to humanity and to every idea we have of logical morality.

The Bible as we know it was compiled during the Council of Nicea under direction of Constantine. Many great books were left out to make Christianity more appealing to the pagans.

That book has wrought more confusion and war upon man than any other force.

  • Wopila

  • Mean is right on. I am white, and in my quest for truth, learned of how everything Mean is saying is true. I am taken back by our history and say only this, it is done. It is amazing~humans haven't yet seen how we are, from a far perspective, coming into light and life!! On Earth, the light is taking foot hold as we all together learn of this coming higher reality!! THE GOOD NEWS

  • I am mixed native /white ( Brule, Ojibwa , Omaha , Crotoan & probably more nations not certain ) The loss is of all peoples including white . Many peoples are loosing the true purpose of life not just Native . We all need to grow together that is the way .....

  • russell means is so wise. absorb his wisdom

  • im a maori from NewZealand out language is getting stonger

  • wow, he's got a point.

  • I am Lakota my great great great great grandfarther is sitting bull i am with you all the way lakotas need to remember how to speek there langage.I my self have forgot my langage and need to brush up.if there is anyway you could email me something to help i will work on it.thanks my Kola

  • i am not a native, but i have keen interest in them. After watching this, im heartbroken. Such a wonderful culture, and look at whats happening to them :( x

  • buy his books..

  • we can learn a lot from Russell. Buy his books, it is the least you can do to help Native American people. Its not least, but at least you are buying his book so he can help his people. Very simple...

  • the US is built on the blood of courageous and admirable people

  • Thank-You for the video! It is soo important for everyone to watch!

  • Yes, the Maori are clever warriors, still fighting.. to retain their birthright

  • You know... I noticed Russell saying that "the genocide against my ppl is almost complete". Now, I don't agree with him there because since most of them, including Russell, are taking the necessary means to stop the genocide from "being complete", then NO Native Nation will ever be wiped out!! THAT'S the way to look at things. I'm afraid there's too much skepticism where this is concerned because Russell is being paranoid. He actually thinks there won't be anymore Native ppl left!!

  • some times its good to be paranoid. it can foster greater focus at critical times

  • true on technicality.

  • I believe that this current society in north america will fall. Keep your people strong for they will be needed to lead us to a more enlightened future.

  • More people need to see this, it's so true it breaks my heart. I'm only part native but my mom used to live on a reserve in Canada, and it's not much different here. I've talked to kids on the reserve recently and their elders are letting them forget their heritage. Everyone needs to step up before this kind and respectful way of life is lost, humans need it and our planet needs it.

  • whata great idea to go teach there!! expelndid kiss even if you get into school you should consider teaching before you would start your school! DO IT. i would even dare to teach acting, directing, 'artistic staff for self expression!... if i had some financial aid... Im so mad confused as im as i find out more about this people kiss. have not been able to write or edit been reading about them only. im sick and want nothing but solution wa do i do?..

  • what an outrageous facts! ..

  • are casinos not legal in s dakota?i live in ok and the indians here seem to be doing good building health clinics, assisted living centers, the money seems to be going to the right places

  • The population in Oklahoma is very high, and many millions visit Oklahoma every year. Not so in South Dakota. There's nothing there except Mt. Rushmore. No one visits Pine Ridge for a scenic vacation! You can't compare sparsely populated Pine Ridge and the Lahota tribes with highly populated reservations such as in Oklahoma. Besides, not every tribe wants a casino which is a tool of the white man to further break the Indians.

  • Usually people don't want to drive all the way to a reserve to gamble.

  • we have a similar school on our rez -

we're fighting for our language and culture.

  • He actually made me cry with him. =( I'm not Native American, but what he says is hearbreaking; the US is built on the blood of courageous and admirable people =(.

  • What a great man he is! The only one in our government who is his equal is Ron Paul. They both speak universal truth and freedom for mankind. We are all living on the "reservation" of the Federal Reserve banking cartel. Time to throw off the shackels.

  • I'm about 50% Sac (Sauk). My grandfather was 100% Sac. And one item of advice he told me before he passed, was this...

"You need not fear the common-man, whether of 'White' or 'Black' or 'Red'. It is the Banker and the Politicians that will take everything from you, regardless of color or creed."

I believe that to be true. I hope for all the best to come to the Native people of this land. I've donated to their cause, and pray for them to be happy once again.

    Peace

  • amen man.. I agree with your grandfather

  • very important what he said about the "poor" english language and the consequences of it.

  • sorry if i also start to cry but what russel is saying is true this is what europeans tried in Indonesia, its breakening right now what he is saying people need to dig in trash to find food this is horrible it breaks my heart

  • Check out Russel Means new YT channel, RussellMeansFreedom.

  • hey russel,

The people of Indonesia support you we feel your pain,America is the Axis evil and they need to be stopt. The native americans have always been exploited by the whiteman,America is not a Democracy its a colony of europeans, like that monkey george.w.bush saying my country, what of america is his country its not even his country he was only born there it doesnt mean he is american,he's a colonist.

  • I feel the sadness and i hear them call i have

there blood in my veins even though its like

8%. keep there Culture alive. I pray to Wakan

Tanka every day for there Freedom

  • Merengaroto was a warrior princess from the far north of te hiku o te ika o Maui - the tail of the fish of Maui (the land commonly known as north island of NZ).

  • This as written by one of my Maori wahine toa: Hutia te rito o te harakeke Mai wai te komako e ko? E patai atu ahau ki a koe, He aha te mea nui o te Ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. When you slice open the heart of the flax plant Where will the Bellbird sing? Let me ask you, What is the most important thing in this world? It is people, it is people, it is people
  • I agree with your desparate need to hang onto the wings of the 'language' bird before it takes off forever!! Ask anyone when you cut the voice of the bird - you cut the soul of its people.

  • What is Obacka's policy on recognition, reconciliation and recompense of all nations and tongues who now come under the generic nation called Americans??

  • Its Barack Obama. American politics is different in the sense that the President as the Head of State is kind of like just the enforcer of national law as outline in the Constitution. That is, regulations that are already in place. The Head Of State has the power to veto bills but its the Senate & House of Representatives that really argue legislature and bill ammendments.

  • If anyone is from the Lakota Nation please contact me here.

    MAORI-LAKOTA FRIENDSHIP & SOLIDARITY!!!

  • is devastating to see a lakota warrior fighting a war that most of his own people think is useless because of all the oppression this people have been put through. Power to you russell means, one day your people and the people that claim they are native americans will finally open their eyes before it's to late.

  • I feel with this poor people.....

  • Let us all try to do something to help free Leonard Peltier, and to help the Lakota people of South Dakota for the sake of goodness in people of the world. Please. Aho, Mitakuyape.

  • If anyone is from the Lakota Nation please contact me here.

    MAORI-LAKOTA FRIENDSHIP & SOLIDARITY!!!

  • This video nearly broke my heart! As difficult as it was to watch... thank you for helping to further open my eyes. I do not know the Lakota language... so instead... for now.. I can only offer you the silence of my prayers.

  • Hey, Russell, man. You are our leader, and we will die fighting beside you for the freedom of Indian people. Aho!

  • man he is awesome! i cant probably even imagine the pain of his people :(

  • wow, this was moving! all what he said makes more sence then anything you can think of.

this explains why teenagers grow up with know respect, and only when they get into society and grow older is when they understand respect of elder teaching.

    very compelling..

  • Everything Russell talks about is so easy to believe....I didn't learn hardly a thing about native Americans in school! We were kept ignorant ON PURPOSE! THAT is a travesty! We don't know hardly a thing about our fellow Americans, Americans who preceded us and were here far longer than we were! It is a crime against humanity what this government has done!!!

  • Many blessings.

I and many others are doing our part to help LIFT the Lakotah Oyate. Russell is a beautiful visonary who ACTS upon his words..!

I am HUMBLED and proud to $upport T.R.E.A.T.Y.
