The OVA was based on the general works of Yokoyama Mitsuteru. This show is actually based on the original Giant Robo story, as written by Yokoyama.
So those looking at this hoping it continues where the OVA left off, you are out of luck. Those looking for an adaptation of Yokoyama Mitsuteru's original work seem to be in for a treat however, much like with Tetsujin 28 2004.
Giant Robo: The Animation was kind of a big homage to Yokoyama so I didn't expect much from this. This is just looking like it's going to be an average anime series.
It looks like Rahxephon with Giant Robo added in.... which completely sucks. I mean, it's hard to find truly decent (and watchable) anime now-a-days and Giant Robo: the Animation is an unknown gems hidden away by the wave of horrible pop culture cliches that Japan loves to batch up. This just looks bad...
RahXephon is still a classic too, but the ending felt rushed to me, Giant Robo also seems interesting, but at least it isn't...dare I say it...Naruto.
@PwninKonan definitly stick to the original OVA series, "Giant Robo the animation the day the earth stood still" you can buy it for like 12 bucks on right stuf, best 12 bucks you will ever spend in your life. then watch Imagawa's remake of Tetzujin 28 and Mazinger Z
No experts o Justice? No BiG Fire? No Tower of Babel? i always wanted to know what happened after the day the earth stood still? my curiosity beckons!
I've watch up to 4 eps so far. Damn, this this dullllll & lots of blabbing. The animation is nice however. the action you see here is spread out in little dots. the 1st ova was waaay better!
I had always hoped to see a sequel to the Giant Robo: The Animation OAV. Sadly, this isn't it. But, not sadly, this looks awesome anyway. Perhaps it has more in common with the original. Whatever, it's dope one way or another.
If it doesn't have GinRei, I'll pass.
