@JessieMay41 Um, my comment was a joke actually - you wrote 'Whales' like the animal, instead of 'Wales' like the country. So I made a joke about the Miami Dolphins...
A chemical agent released by the Vietcong in 66' caused an imbalance in testosterone production, leaving a higher proportion of Vets being homosexual in nature. The Vietcong hoped that homosexual activity would mar the war effort on the American side. Some say this was effective, but was not the Vietcong initiative that led to their victory. The Vietcong's damage is evident today, a growing population of mutant homosexuals will eventually lead to America's extinction..
"pray to be straight, pray to be everything the world thought I should be" lol the world's so fucked up and there's nothing wrong with gay people, Gareth's such an inspiration.
@TurboFuss1 Because her show doesn't just go out in America. It goes out in the UK too and he is a Welsh legend. Plus, what makes you think that she has to have 'famous' people all the time? This is a man who has a story to tell about coming out as a homosexual under the spotlight- something that Ellen can relate to!
[Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?"; Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it." — "60 Minutes" (5/12/96)]
i am glad he was man enough and brave enough to be who he is and become much more happy in life.... Everyone in the closet should accept who they are, all those beings with gay tendencies are gay and they would be much more happy if they just accept it.
@kurtismg Oh please, that's not why... Lot of gay people have parents that never get grandchildren yet they are supportive and accepting of their son's/daughter's sexual orientation.
um I eg to differ with the statement that he was the only one. Ian Roberts Australian rugby legend come out many years ago and he is and was a defining inspiration to many in australia and the world.
I didn't know who Gareth Thomas was before this interview, but seeing him on this clip blew my mind. I have never seen a man with so much elegance, beauty, and grace. Not only is he inspiring, but he's also courageous. I watched his "It Gets Better" and I was deeply moved by it. He has truly broken all boundaries, stereotypes, walls, chains, and cages that we as a people have confined ourselves to. I couldn't help, but to smile as he filled my heart up with warmth. Thank you, Gareth Thomas!
@bigbluedog0 well over here we call "American Football" pussy rugby cus you have to wear all this padding and helmets and shit, when in Rugby all you are told to have is a gumshield for your teeth.
@guzonjinsin88 I'm an old gay guy who didn't marry but in my generation many gays married because they were in such denial and really wanted so desperately to be straight. Now that it's so easy to be gay in western society this is less common. This guy lives in the macho rugby world so he's like gay men a few decades ago (except his teammates accepted him rather than beat him up physically - which happened to me). I'm sure most gays in Muslim countries are married.
@cavejourney how did he have sex?? You see i'm straight, that would be like me having sex with another man, he must be scarred for life! He should of just stayed single and told his m8's i cant find the right woman and fuk off.
@guzonjinsin88 To have sex you focus just on the sensations and perhaps have fantasies. You also have to understand how desperately a lot of gay people at that time wanted to be straight. I didn't marry but I spent years praying every night to be "cured" - I went to a shrink for the same reason. It didn't work but it was the typical reaction to homosexual tendencies at that time. You have to understand the pressures of that time and place. This guy is like a 1970s throw back.
Oh, that's just American media for you, everything is either the best, biggest or first. But in fairness, the exact wording, originating from Sports Illustrated (2010), referred to the "then-current" sports professional, Ian Roberts would have been retired about 10 years or so. Ellen was only repeating the story.
@ninjascroll6789 yes obviously being a kiwi, the nation thats dominated the sport for over 100 years i know what the original name is. But i dont think garths going to turn up on ellen, an american show and expect the audience to associate the word 'football' with anything other than american football. Go the all blacks
I am not against gays and I vote for their human rights. But I simply do not get WHY the hell they want their sexuality so much exposed, Ellen is publicly supporting this guy. I would never do that and would be actually feeling that I intimidate other people for speaking about their sexuality. This makes the situation simply complicated. It is waste of time, it is not even an erotic story, just a story of nothing.
@BosnianReality Straight people actually "expose" their sexuality all the time... when they talk casually about their partners, their dates, their lives, when they walk hand-in-hand down the street. Many gay people live in communities where they have to keep their lives hidden out of fear. When people step forward to "expose" their sexuality - as you say - the are not doing it to intimidate YOU... but to make the truly intimidated know that they are not alone. So there.
@accessutube1000 Actually, the only arsehole is the Society that told him the only true relationship is with the opposite sex and being gay was wrong! If he grew up in a society that fully embraced the idea that you can live a long, happy life in a same sex relationship as well, this probably never would have happened!

@kaititiro Why any beautiful man would want to mess up their face like that by not wearing pads is crazy. Both sports are great. I don't know why people look at it as weak 'cause they wear pads. But eh, your opinion. Have you played Rugby or A. Football before? Hmm.
@AnotherDayOfThis You have no idea how much pride is bestowed upon yourself when you get into the jersey, and take your position on the field, As a foward or as a back.
and the feeling when you hit that ruck just right, or when you get that game winning try.
we would risk anything. i've dislocated my shoulder broken my leg and shattered my ankle, but hell. it's the game they play in heaven.
@WiremuH I wouldn't know 'cause I wouldn't dare play it. Again, I don't care about the injury, I just don't like to see the hot looking ones that looks fucked up afterward. I like the one that makes the gay men hard as a rock. Get it now? No debate here. Just tired of the comments about how one sport is weaker then the other. So unless you're eye candy, go ahead and play. Just my opinion.
What an inspiring story! Way to go Gareth. When the chips come down, what really matters is staying true to who you really are no matter what the rest of the world says.
I don't have anything against gay people but I do have a problem with those who pretend to be straight in relationships. Just don't get married to the opposite sex if you know your gay idiot
@Naturalqueen2011 Silly Person! You have NO idea what it's like to be secretly gay in a world that emphasizes heterosexuality in almost every aspect of life, especially sports! Some gay people are so pressured by their society to be what society wants everyone to be that they try as hard as they can to be straight and fit into that world. Don't blame gay people for these sham marriages; blame the society that puts a heavy stigma on their sexuality!
@lunovintoys if this is a serious question, an NFL athlete, rugby players are on about £130,000 a year ($200,000). as opposed to an NFL athlete who gets about 4-12 million i believe?
@1470zorg But he felt like he kinda had to since he wanted to be straight. Social influence is very powerful and we don't realize it. He felt ashamed to be gay because of what he was surrounded by, and he obviously tried to show affection to a woman, but he obviously couldn't lie to himself anymore. You might feel that he shouldn't have married in the first place, but you should at least admire his will to come out and tell her the truth. You have to put your self in his shoes.
Coming out is always difficult. In my case being catholic and Latino imagine. I did not have someone to talk to. But I have a great mother and family . So thank you
This guy was a true true servant of Wales, Hated seeing him taking England apart, but what a true professional, great guy and true gentleman. England fan.
I never knew Gareth, but because he's in Celebrity Big Brother UK 2012 now, I became curious and read up about him. He's not only hot ( I'm a girl btw) but he's a nice guy and very brave to come out like he did. And I hope that he will be an example for many people who are struggling with the same situation as we speak. Live and let live!
i am gay myself and everytime i watch question of sport all i can see is that its so so obvious Matt Dawson (rugby player) is also gay too if you watch all his manerisms and actions..i am usually spot on with my gay radar and can also honestly say 100% hand on heart i dont have the hots for Matt but watching him over the years i have always felt that about him for decades..i dont know if he says he is married,bi or str8 as havent checked his public life status..but rekon hes gay in private life.
I'm 15 years old and I'm gay, and I live in Sarn, the exact village where Gareth was brought up, I know some of his family. I can honestly say that he is a role model not just to the gay community, but to everyone, he's such an amazing person, a person for all to look up to.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Please remain in the closet because in as much as this is helpful to gay people. It can damage young straight children to build their minds around been gay. I for one prefer secret to be kept secret.

We need more athletes like Gareth -- brave and not afraid to be truthful/open.
Also, I love his accent.

I'm 15 years old and I'm gay, and I live in Sarn, the exact village where Gareth was brought up, I know some of his family. I can honestly say that he is a role model not just to the gay community, but to everyone, he's such an amazing person, a person for all to look up to.

Please remain in the closet because in as much as this is helpful to gay people. It can damage young straight children to build their minds around been gay. I for one prefer secret to be kept secret.
