  • I saw your video, great job bro, congratulations, it was inspiring.

  • WardJoshua...just practice the stairs and cardio..if you have your legs under you when you get off the stairs..you should be ok

  • Good job man. I work for a volunteer department and in about 3 months i'll be taking the official CPAT and becoming a paid firefighter. We did a practice run at my volunteer department and i got 7:50. I dont suppose that's bad for the first try. We didnt have a dummy so we used a tire full of hose that weighed about 200 pounds. THAT SUCKED. Im in pretty good shaped, played football for years, and when i got to the dummy drag i was like oh my God is it over yet? LOL

  • @JakeAshley88 Shape* sorry.

  • What kind of training can you do for the cpat

  • how much did you weigh at the time of this video? and is this the one in abbotsford bc?

  • *beginning of the video

  • This is in the City of Orange. I recognize the guy at the beginning of and the course.

  • Guys...try the "biddle" next time around.

  • @jdmstop What fire dept. was this?

  • I'd be faster with the sun above me!! Lol

  • You guys aren't even outside in the heat

  • what city is this in?

  • 6:09

  • i did mine today and got 8:35, beat my old time which was 9:42.

  • that was longer than 7:23 I think. According to the timer on the video it was 7:56. I just did my first CPAT today and got 7:45

  • Was that by angel stadium? I took that one I got a time of like 6:40. Where they get you is in the beginning with the stairmaster they basically take out your legs and then you gotta go thru the rest of the course. Good job tho that was good

  • ya that ant easy i was a fire explorer when i was 14 and did half of it and than throw my guts out.If i didnt stop my time would have been like 10:20 it hard as crap.

  • Whats a good time? In general, if you have a better time does that put you higher on the eligibility list? Or is it truly a pass/fail.

  • @gtiapr3 A good time is anything under 10 min and 20 secs. It is nothing more than a pass/fail. Had a friend who passed the CPAT with 23 seconds LEFT on the clock, so he had a time of like 9:57 or something and the next guy down the list had an 8 min time, so my friend had a better chance of being hired than the 8 min time. Simple.

  • Hey guys. I'm going to be taking my CPAT in a few months. And I was wondering do you guys have any good training tips? Besides doing the two training sessions prior to the test. Such at home tips or in the gym.-Thanks!

  • 150 dollars for a card. Hardest part is paying. Second hardest is waking up. Third is taking the test. You should have no problem passing this test. Biddle on the other hand. 2.50 for that test and it kicked my arse.

  • 8:31 ...yay.... lol <3 good job

  • I've only done the FF combat challenge but this looks much easier.

  • hey everyone, quick question. does a fast cpat time help you more in the hiring process?

  • @thebigeasy92

From what I've been told no. It's just pass or fail. The test is simply seeing if you pass the minimum requirements to be a firefighter.

  • @thebigeasy92 - yes of course. best of the best, cream of the crop are what make it. top 10% etc. so passing and being top of your class will sometimes make or break you being hired.

  • Hey everyone, quick question. If you have a really fast cpat time does that help you in the hiring process at all?

  • What level fitness were you at before doing this?

  • NICE!! CONGRATS on getting your CPAT

  • im taking my cpat sept 1st... i did it in 8:10 yesterday during training, but the 1st time i did it it took 10:06... hoping to get in the 7's for the real thing

  • um im a 18 and in interested in becoming a fire fighter....i just want to kno is 7:23 a fast time?

  • @natemadeindade yea its a pretty good time. in order to pass the cpat, you need a time of under 10:20

  • @AustinWhit25 wow u did awesome then ..i guess ill start training now. Also, is the cpat the only test needed to become a firefighter or are there more in store?

  • @natemadeindade yea 7:23 is getting it.

  • The dummy drag at that stage is one of the hardest parts of the test.

At that point, you just want to stop!

  • @NoPlaceForLoafers

That is true, however, just push it on through, at that point, I'm just so eager to get it finished I'll just give it all have, whatever it's left inside of me. The CPAT is not that bad, wait for the biddle! boy that is a lot tougher!

  • @jdmstop what is the biddie? I took the CPAT prep test like 2 years ago , the hardest part was the stairs climb at the begenning

  • @jdmstop I read there is no more biddle test, just Cpat

  • @jdmstop I read there is no more biddle test, just Cpat

  • Comment removed

  • @NoPlaceForLoafers If you think the CPAT is hard, look for a new profession please.

  • @boburgess117 at least someone thinks the same the only bad part is the dummy drag that dude was huffing and puffing befor he got there hahahah

  • man i have to take this test in september. they have a course set up to practice, that stair stepper is a beast...

  • i'm 5ft 9in and i passed the cpat in 7 min flat. i was the shortest guy their

  • do you only have to take the cpat if you want to be a firefighter that gets paied?.

  • @colin203 I think in order if you want to work in a department, i met a Forest Service firefighter, he says he hasnt done EMT, fire academy but hes a firefighter in the mountains and such, and hes building up his resume, you can work as that, but they really dont get paid much i think around 10$ its crap but im doing it for my resume you should too :]

  • he most likely went to rehabilitation at the end

  • hey , after you finished it, and you were escorted into the other room, what happened next, did some medical staff check your heart rate and stuff like that ??

  • How long do you have to do the test?

  • 10 min

  • so 3 minutes of stairs with a 70lb vest? i took the fdny test back in jan 07, got a 98 and havent heard anything since :(

supposedly they only called 800 from my list due to budget cuts.

  • hey man just wondering have you become a firefighter yet? what county are you in? im thinking about taking the test as well is it like the police exam were you just take the test and forget about it then 2 years down the road you get a call?

  • Ok im just gonna say i passed walked this physical and passed with over a minute left...if you cant pass you shouldnt be going into the fire service. Ive ran harder physicals than this. This is kinda a joke

  • Ahhh, seeing this brings back bad memories. I took this 2 years ago and passed, but was dead tired when I finished. I'm taking it again in 2 days, and am kinda nervous. My cardio is fairly weak, but i've been doing many leg exercises to prepare the stair climber. It was all kind of a blur after that, but I do remember feeling very fatigued after the dummy drag.

  • hey what is the dark tunnel like? and when does the ceiling start to lower? some help on that would be great, kind of weary about that one, is there more room then it looks and is it pitch black?

  • I've done some reading on the whole CPAT test and it's 3' high by 4' wide. Pitch black. There are some obsticles as well, I'd guess things to climb over or tilting floors or some shallow steps, like a fun house, and then at some point it narrows to be only 2' high and you crawl on your belly. Doesn't seem bad

  • right after the first bend there will be a hump you have to go OVER, around the middle area or so it lowers a small amount, and at the end it lowers so you may have to army crawl. Just keep close to the right wall and it will be all good. No worries, the tunnel is one of the easier ones to do.

  • What is the last part?? What are you supposed to do exactly?

  • The last part simulates using a pike to push up/tear down a ceiling

  • The last part is called Ceiling Breach and Pull. Push 3 times up, pull 5 times down for four sets. It simulates what firefighters do after putting out the fire looking for fire that is not put out and possible rekindle areas.

  • our dummy is 185 pounds

  • the dummy is 165 pounds not 180

  • i just finished my cpat this morning in 7mins 20secs, i was pumped to beat my previous time of 7mins 45secs but good luck to anyone who has to take it!

  • If you are in moderately good shape then you'll do just fine on the CPAT. The only ones who fail are the ones who fail to maintain balance on the step-mill and grab the rail... and those who sprint at first and run out of gas.

  • everyone thinks its hard. . its not hard . ..You have more than enough time to do it. . .biddle on the other hand kicked my ass

  • i got a few questions, how much heavy is that dummy? i heard the camera guy said about 165lbs? and how heavy is that saw and the other thing you carried?

  • The dummy is about 180. I'd say the Circular Saw is probably 30 and the Cutter's Edge is about 25. They purposefully put the hose drag (The only event where you can run) after the most difficult endurance portion of the CPAT. Your legs feel like rubber. Took mine 2 years ago. 8min 36sec. Great job on your time!

  • 180 pound dummy????

geez never used a dummy that heavy before.

The F-PAT for L.A. County only uses a 165 lb dummy.

Then again each test is different in all the different counties.

  • Just did the practice test today and finished w/44 seconds to spare. I would still like to improve on that time though. At 5'4" and 157 lbs, all I can say is cardio and leg squats or walk w/ 80lbs dumbbells. 25% physical and 75% mental.

  • Completely Agree... you only have to concentrate...

  • Very good job!! I'm planning to take my CPAT soon this year. Thanks alot for uploading the video. It's very helpful! :D

  • Please, can anyone tell me what the swimming requirements are for firefighters?

  • yea. none

  • Is the CPAT just the stairs?

  • nvm... i didnt watch the whole thing :/

  • No C-Pat consist of 8 different events.. You can do a search CPAT vedeo

  • @jdmstop the f it doesn't , 1 treadmill, 2 hose drag,3 tool carry, 4 ladder raise, 5 body drag,6 door breech, 7 maze,8 hook and pull. So how about you doing the search........ I hold the national CPAT record 7:09.

  • Good run... bested my time by 30 seconds. If I ever do it again, I'll walk faster in between events. It is but one step into the career I really want, but I enjoyed doing the CPAT.

  • So, are you a friefighter now? Thanks for posting this video, I'm on it Jan 24th.

  • hey jdm stop, how tall are you?? how high is the ceiling breach?

  • Nice form on the ceiling breach and pull. I'll use it as an example. My test is a few weeks away...

  • How fast are you going on the stairclimber?

  • 20 sec warm-up is 50 steps/min then 3 mins at 60 steps/min

  • Nice, never really seen the whole test, just bits and pieces. I think about two minutes into the stair climb I could hear nothing but myself breathing heavily, it is such a relief when the proctor calls 3:20. Nice work on the halyard, nice and slow.

  • Thank you! Just do a lot of training on the stair climber at the gym and you will be alright! :)

  • Seems like this is alot harder than the NYPD agility test, am I right? or any police agility test.

  • congrats, i hope to take the test soon.

  • Nice bro! I'm takin' the CPAT in October! What did you do to train for it? Also--a weird question--how much do you weigh if you don't mind me asking?

  • Keep up on the cardio as much as you can, do a lot of leg exercises, such as squad and deadlift. I'm 170lbs, CHEERS!

  • nice! never knew what it entailed
