  • I live in southend its a fucking toilet

  • I LIVE THEERE! very good tourist town

  • really really love southend. know a few nice people down there :)

  • Ted Rodgers has been dead for about 10 years, how old is this?

  • 80s

  • Was in southend on sea july 2007. Had a fantastic time and met some great people.Chris from Dublin.

  • I love southend..wish I were back there :( everything was like that still when I went there in to live 97 then they changed all the high street and that bridge near pier hill.

  • what a dude, I'm glad I now know it's "all happening" in Saaafend

  • both wikipedia and ebay has lists of skinhead movies

  • Does anyone remember a film set in canvey island and southend on sea , it was made in the eighties ,i think it was called red saturday or something similar and i am sure it was about a couple of skinheads ,pleas

  • essex boys is set in both southend and canvey but isn't about skins

  • hi mate thanks for the reply ,someone has just pointed out the film was called bloody kids and i have just found it for sale on play dotcom regards greg

  • LOL thats my uncle!!!

    ian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he has such an exciting voice... lol

love looking at old videos and pictures of southend,

he seemed to be getting confused with the plaza and the royals though . great video (Y)

  • Leyland National II. Quality.

  • it's actually from the 80s - ch4's Take Over TV: where you just sent tapes in of any old thing.

  • I live in Southend and it has really changed! When was this video made?

  • AIDS?

  • Hilarious! Especially like the mix-up between Vic. Circus and the Royals, the folorn shots of Southend East and of course, the suit. Top job!

  • Hi there,

Although I can't work out when this film was actually done, I feel it is very out of date and in dire need of an up=date!

However, I would like to thank you for taking the time in doing it in the first place! Well Done.

    Yours in Service,

    Salvo.

  • Wow, Southend! Watching this has brought back one memory.

  • Get a room guys! That being said, I'm delighted so many of you have watched the film, I'd really love another chance at some of them lines! We made it just before my spiralling decline so it's nice to see me looking so fit and well.

  • WTF?

  • Coooooey Leon, I never loved you.

  • This is a little embarrassing, but it weren't him afterall and having watched it again I'm not sure if it's a worthy tribute to anything. Very poor indeed.

  • hah look at that kid being followed by the suspicios man at 0:14!

  • yes the breath taking views, like your car being stolen!

  • WEST CAFE

  • lol

    from the tt.trains

  • Crikey..Not a bad film...Just Old..Got to be the Early 1990's as the Slam-Door stock (302 Class) and the Leyland National at the start are no longer around...Better than the new ''Plastic Pigs'' Class 357 used on the line now..Also before the Palace Bingo was refurbed

  • There's another inaccuracy near the end. The guy describes a walk along the pier as "20 minutes of sheer enjoyment and freedom".

Or perhaps he's trying to be ironic?

  • Lol as long as it's not in cinders on the seabed- which it is half the time. Anyone know if it's been rebuilt AGAIN yet? lol

  • Why are they talking about victoria circus dominating the seafront whilst showing the royals?

  • That was Victoria Plaza man - the big stairways and dark bottom floors.

  • When they're in the lift talking about 'views towards the pier' they appear to be in the royals rather than vic plaza.

  • EVEN MY NAN WAS LIKE.

    BLIMEY THIS IS OLD. (:

    god bless southend.

  • Southend is a lot better than this useless film shows.

    It's completely out of date.

  • you know what, this video doesnt actually show the decent areas in southend, I understand that people dont like it and I can see why. How about prittlewell square and southchurch? they're nice areas. there are far worse places to live (but im not gonna name then as I dont wanna offend anyone - soemthing that some racist people on here dont care about) go southend, your alright by me. those who dont like it go live in your 'Utopia'. but belive me no where is perfect.

  • Gawd bless The Sarfend. Great times down the front in the 70's. Is Keddies still open ?

  • sadly not, it closed in the late 80's if I remember correctly (was just a wee lass then) I remember going to santas grotto there. unfortunately (as with most things) its now a NatWest at the bottom, JJB sports above that and lots of offices filling the rest. tara for now

  • Nineteen Ninety Six was when it sadly closed. I remember buying the "young ones" book in the book store there as well as many videos at the hmv they had there.

  • NO....closed down sometime in the mid 1990's

  • sorry...didn't notice someone had already answered that. Part of it has more recently been converted into a Travel Lodge

  • I used to work in Keddies :-s

  • I've heard in the whispers that all the racism on here is posted by Southend's best and brightest individuals - not thick, delinquent scumbags who bunked their way through belfairs and are now doing degrees in dole/media studies at some ex-polytechnic university.

  • dirtsville....your name says it all you little red commie shit. grow up idiot.

  • nice to be communist then u get to kill people u dont like and on my list would be u and lady u racist swines black people help the commun ity and even if they werent here there still would be drugs and crime it has nothing to do with them it has to do with people livin it happens like murders and hurricanes it just happens no way u can stop it and southend aint naff southends the best town ever

    go us

  • Ladyv5 - Southend is bad enough as it is so it is most unfair of you to suggest that it should revert back to 'White'.

For one, anyone who wants to go backwards in life would have to be retarded...which brings me on to my second point and that a place full of complete f**king retards (like you) cannot be a positive step for even a naff town like Southend. Although...perhaps there should be a place for idiots like you to get together. Keep you out of everyone else's hair.

    You twat :)

  • look at his hands!!!!

  • Glad I don't live in Southend anymore. 18 years of pure misery!

  • What the hell, that wasn't Victoria Plaza, byt he seafront is The Royals!!

  • Haha! The place to be! lol

  • Hahaha! Who is that scrawny yuppy narrator with the voice that embodies the crummy joke that is this town! ...Not so much "jus a load of foriegners muggin u" but more likely to be Southend's native deliquent scumbags, heh.

  • with an 'n', obviously..

  • ha ha ha, this is sooo funny. i've spent many a happy saturday afternoon in 1991 going up and down that lift having spent my 10 quid paper round money on Out Run or space harrier game in Mr B's. Las Vegas? pah!!!

  • classic - so travelling on the misery line is relaxing is it?

Southend pier has to be one of the unluckiest structures on the planet.

  • GO ON SOUFEND!!!

look wats chnged in town,, no more "breathe taking views" jus a load of foriegners muggin u!?!

  • I'm from Luton so Southend looks good to me!

  • haha ive been on that train station before, the peir dosnet look liek that anymore

  • It's all the same back then. Except Victoria circus is being re-built.

  • Top stuff. I tried to book up for Ted Rogers at the Cliffs today and found out he has sadly died (he did that weekly when he presented 321)

    Great vid. Takes me back!

  • This was filmed in the 1980s. What? Did you expect some sort of futuristic stadium? It was state-of-the-art then. However the futuristic feel of the place when it was modernised this year, has made the place a dump because of retarded bastards who have descided to smash all the glass windows by throwing stones on the sea front at the new lift-building.

  • What time is this from? It is funny to see so many things remain the same :-)

  • it's actually from the 80s - ch4's Take Over TV: where you just sent tapes in of any old thing. check out my other files...

  • Nice! Thanks ;-)
