  • Looks like a great cheap alternative to an Emerson. Might have to get the grey plain edge, very nice. Good review

  • @shadymattuk I hadn't thought of that, the blade shape does remind me of the commander. Thanks for that!

  • How do you do that flicky thing? Do you have to loosen the pivot point first? Thanks.

  • @malthus101 the tang flipper or the thumb plate? Either way, If yours is difficult to flick open, you could try oiling and lightly loosening the pivot.. but the more you loosen it the blade may sit off centered. Just gotta find that "sweet spot" Of course, with time and use, the indent will ware and blade retention will not be so stiff.

  • I really like AUS8 too and Sandvik as well. But just look at what Cold Steel can do with AUS8...all those survival knives that can take just about anything. I never understood why so many guys want S30V or even D2. But I am kind of amazed at the D2 Ka Bar Fin and what it's capable of in the field. As for the Boker in this review, I'd trust it anyday over a ZT 0350.

  • Not sure about this lock, is it not possible to unlock it unintentionally? The knife does look nice though. Good review mate.

  • @richardmilk I believe the liner lock is a proven locking mechanism, and this is certainly one of the stronger ones I've handled. I doubt you need to worry about unintentionally unlocking it. If you worry about that for a knife like this, just go with a fixed blade. :) Thanks!

  • its called the automat kalashnikov not referring to being an automatic knife, but the being a throwback or homage to the ak47 bayonet styleing (ak47=automat kalashnikov 1947)

  • Hey Great Review! btw what is the blade angle on it.

  • @HighFlyer2017 Thanks for watching! Not sure but is a nice shallow grind, I was pleasantly surprised. Reminds me of the new 2010 FFG Spyderco Delica/Endura's.

  • Very informative vid , I just received mine today, I must admit for the cost this knife is outstanding. I have big hands and enjoy a big knife, and I have paid twice as much for the same quality. For anyone new to knives as a sport this is a good inexpensive start, good job keep em comin'

  • @CHOSEN7X7 Excellent! Thank you for chiming in, this knife does not get enough attention I think. I appreciate the comment!

  • Most of the knives made in my country, Spain, have 440C steel. Rather good, but the top European in the Sandvik 12c27. The first is only intended for medium quality knives, the second is really good, compared with vg-10 as some of my Spydercos.

  • @newhuskytwenty Thank you for that info on the steels, very helpful!

  • Another thing guys. This ain't a german knife. It's taiwan imitating Germany. CRTK isn't USA either, but it's a better build, in my personal opinion. Check out CRTK M16 and M21 special forces editions. Get that in black!

  • @wookiesexx +1 for the CRKT in black. Their "desert tan" is not very attractive. The M16-21 SF is quite an affordable knife, too. I think you can find it some places for under $35.

  • @niimo so boker farms some knives out to taiwan?

  • @roaringwaterbay I believe so, yes. I forget which line it is of theirs, might be their "Magnum" line that is Chinese made. Might be wrong, but it's something like that.

  • @wookiesexx Hey...just to add to your comment...This is NOT a German knife only in the sense that it was not made in Germany. But, it was designed and tested by Boker themselves. Boker Plus is simply a lower grade Boker. Boker sends designs to different countries...ie Taiwan, China, USA, etc....where the materials can be obtained at a lower cost. Once a design is completed they inspect the knife to Boker standards. If it does not meet BOKER specs they scrap the knife and move on.

  • @wookiesexx Solingen is where anybody should be purchasing a Boker if they was a true BOKER. Great place GREAT product. Gotta love TRUE GERMAN ENGINEERING.

  • @wookiesexx if they (want)

  • Another thing, this knife measures more than 4 inches. I know the spec says 4, but if an officer is going to measure it, it will be a little bit over 4 inches.

  • @wookiesexx Because the cutting edge is 4" but the actual "blade" is longer? I've wondered about how law enforcement are suppose to measure it. Since state limitations vary, I wonder if that is a state/county thing as well. Thanks for your comment!

  • @niimo I think what cop is going to do is place the blade against the palm of his hand, if it's over, he takes the knife. The way I measured is from the tip to the handle. It's 4 1/16

Now that said. I'm not going to be hauling this knife legally. It will be concealed. So who cares, right?

  • I got one! Compared to CRTK steel this is a little cheaper. Though, it's still a good knife to have, do know that it's big.

  • I own the black-finish version which I purchased over a year ago. I love the knife and am particularly impressed with its linerlock. I'm usually skeptical of linerlocks but this one is rock-solid. A friend tested the lock with a 120lb weight and it held strong!

  • 120lbs sounded like that's pretty good, especially considering that it really doesn't look like much! But boy, when it locks into place, it does it with some real authority! Thanks for the comment and the info on the weight test!

  • BTW nothing wrong with 440C steel. It's basically a middle of the road steel. I heard Boker plus hardens to about HRC/58 which holds an edge reasonably well and is easy to re sharpen for the beginner to novice. I think Entrek USA uses 440C also but correct me if I'm wrong.

  • I tell ya guy I used to be the biggest skepic of non USA manufactured knives until I got a look at Boker Plus and CRKT. Taiwan is killing the USA in the cutlery market. They are offering exceptional quality and workmanship at very affordable prices. I purchased the Boker Plus Resurrection which matches the ZT 0300 in design. I will be posting a video on the knife soon since no one else has as of yet

  • I have shared that same skepticism, with the exception of some European countries like Germany and Switzerland, and also Japan of course! But Taiwan really does well. I mean, Cold Steel makes a lot of their knives in Taiwan, and they are fantastic, of course. Resurrection huh? Cool, will check it out! Thanks for your comment!

  • @Taz0161 I wouldn't consider 440c to be "middle of the road"..I consider it to be high performance and extremely good in the field, unlike S30V which ZT uses on their 0350..I would never depend on that as a "combat knife". It will chip even under slight use. I prefer VG-10 myself or 154CM.

And BTW, I didn't mean to be sound sarcastic with the steel thing.

  • @chewouch VG-10 is excellent blade steel , I also like AUS8. As far as chipping goes , Yes that S30V is very hard steel it doesn't have much give to it so I wouldnt recomend you pry or baton with it.

  • Does the 101 also come in the box shaped like the AK mag like the $30 versions? Thanks for the review, really good quality too good job.

  • Hahaa unfortunately not, it comes it a regular box. Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!

  • Thx a lot for a great review, just bought this knife online on its looks alone, and I'm pretty confident I'll like it a lot.

  • Sure thing, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I think I purchased it based mostly on the looks and reasonable price.
