i saw one of the 4002 models in a music shop today it was fantastic had a bout 15 minute mess around on it it blew me away shame i couldnt afford it :/
whats the model name of the rickenbackers that have the p bass configuration in the neck position the model isn't in the vid and i've googled my ass off
i have a Rickenbacker bass 4001 very very rare, beacuose he have a 3 pickups.. its a original one, not a fake.. the serial number in the oficial page says was made in august 1978!!
The first Rick appearing in this vid is a '76 jetglo with '040 Pyramid Strings on it, tuned in low CIS instead of E, usually played through a Ampeg SVT Classic w/ 810 Box.
And it's mine!
It was a little surprise to see my picture in your video. But you are a Rickenbacker AND Motörhead fan, so it's OK. :)
This pic was taken in 2006 in Hamburg Germany. Today the setup is still the same except the strings, which are now '050 Rotosound Roundwound!
they did come out with some special color model lines in the 80's and 90's. the one you're talking about i believe was called the Tuxedo bass. then there was the Redneck, all red with dot markers, and the Blackstar like Mike Mesaros of the Smithereens played.
The 4002 was a deluxe model of the 4001. It was introduced around 75 and discontinued 1984. Dont know much about the differences between the 4001 and 4002.
i remember reading somewhere years ago that Geddy Lee played one on the Hemispheres album. it had a direct line out jack so you could plug directly into the mixing board.
I love my rics

I have a black 4001. It's good, but a Musicman Stingray is much better. But, I do think the Ric looks cooler.

I thought I saw solid white ( including neck with black dot marking ) 4001's in the 80's , was it my imagination ?
They looked like Larry Graham's Moon basses.
