In my opinion the movie was about combat leadership. What you are calling Military cliche' is what was I had to do through my Marine Corps career, make timely decisions. There was no right or wrong answer,you had to make them quick or your Marines will lose cofidence. The portrayal of the Marine SSgt. was that example, he and the LT had to lead thier Marines and even when a error was made the had to continue the mission.Only poeple who had a Military carrer that I talked to understod this film.

I wanted to say the movie was great since I was anticipating it for sooo looong, but fact is its shit.

I really hate when Hollywood does this, push out trailers that look good and appealing, so you have some thought of what to expect, then the actual movie ends up being completely different. In this case, trailers made it look action packed, turns out to be soapy, cliche bs- just watch Independence Day again.

loved this movie, it started slow but built up. The cameras werent to shaky actually. Lots of good facial shots and landscape shots. Graphics were great, acting was good. It was very original, never seen an alien movie from a military perspectives. The only downside was the character building, and some of the Marines were just to skinny

I feel like they focused too much on the indoor "dialogue" parts, instead of keeping the camera outside where the action was going on. The character interaction was so dull, but yet that's all they focused on. I mean, there's aliens out there who are powered by water. WATER. I want to know more about that, not the main marine's guilt and piss-poor back story.

It was good up until the autopsy scene. then everything fell apart.

Before the autopsy scene, the shakey cam was present, but it at least had some thought to it, where it kept the viewer from getting a good look at the aliens. I actually applauded when an alien was obscured by a palm leaf, I was thinking "Wow, these guys know that things are scarier the less you see of them."

and the marines were all scared shitless for once.

then they turned superhuman after the autopsy scene.
