I'm watching this and looking at the companies selling headlight cleaning crap on the side bar like they can still convince me to buy their expensive products after watching this. Been having issues with fogging headlights on my civic but i'm doing this first thing in the morning. Thanks man.
Hey how about to remove water spots on car windows like I got a truck last week for 3,500 and its super nice ok and the only thing that was wrong was dirty from been parked ok and it was water spots on all the windows they won't come off what would be good to remove that thank-you and have a good
@connei74 I will be posting a video soon out how to get water spots off glass. I would try using a solution of 50/50 distilled water and white vinegar. Then using a microfiber to wipe it off.
also if you have some tire shine, that will also enhance the gloss of the headlight lens and adds yet another layer of protection.I usually buff, armor all, wax, shine
It works. I used a $.97 tube of Colgate & regular drill bit 3" buffing pad $3.00 and a plastic polish or protectant from Mothers plastic finish or wax.
1st-Cleaned the headlights (2005 Honda Oddesey)
2nd-Applied toothpaste (as shown)
3rd-Buffed in toothpaste..(using small squirts of water & Armoral mix (3parts h2o/1part Amoral)
Just did my girlfriends Maxima. It didn't clear up as much as you, but still a huge improvement. She hasn't done anything to the headlights for about 10 years. I got some free Crest from my dentist and pretty much did the thing for free. Thanks dude!!
Im so glad I found this video! I have been trying to get my headlights clear for a while now. I use the toothpaste today, worked wonders. I cleaned mine about 3 times. Only because I didnt scrub them that long. WOW what a difference!
Its also a good idea to apply some kind of polisher/protectant to the headlights after doing this. But yeah ive been using tooth paste on all my cars and it does work! Keep in mind It wont work if there is hard water damage to the lens or the build-up is inside.
@deepee0979 Well it really depends on how much your car is exposed to the sun. It could range anywhere from 2+ yrs to 6 months. Considering the low cost and risk factor I would say its worth it.
hmm Is there a way to clean the inside? The headlights in my car are pretty gross, they used to get foggy on the inside on really humid days. I want to restore them to look decent now, but I do not think it is all on the outside I think the fog did some damage to the inside as well.
@Kali951King idk dude it really didn't do much but take the yellow color off other than that I used a micro fiber towel nd scrubbed the light with 2 different toothpastes nd nothin it still looks the same jus without the yellow coloring ..
@JCSRT35R try the CV headlight restoration, check out my video to see what a diffrence it made, i recommend it for everyone! its only 20 bucks, and has a nice warranty
@JCSRT35R try changing the spark plus in your car that might clear up your headlights real good. im a 30 year experienced headlight expert. oh and if that dont work then it has to be the battery. no need to thank me
Got an ADVISERY Note on my M.0.T. today to renew my headlights because of yellowing and dullness.. I tried the toothpaste trick just now, and the lights are like new.. i 'm also @ the Dentist today with tooth ache.. pity i did'nt use toothpase for my teeth (^_^)
only because your lights aren't that bad to begin with.. do it with a car from early 90s.. It took me a good hour - wet sand and then meguiars ultimate compound and had to keep doing that over and over until they came clean.. I had yellow running down all over the place.. probably took a good 1/4 inch of crap off of the lights lol
@iirgrafton I actually did it with a car that was older and it took a little longer but there are a lot of variables that come into play. At least your headlights look good now lol.
@MrBeckett74 absolutely not. A DVD has information on it and if you use a gritty substance, it will take that info away. Use a disc cleaner, I prefer a pre-treated cloth called, Disc Genie.
I heard of using toothpaste on items that is stained off. This is the first of it i heard you can use on headlights. I used LCD cleaner and it looks much better but not 100percent
ok so i just watched this with some headphones on right/... and at the very end of the video where there is tht screeaach, scared the living shit out of me hahaha but this actually works thatnks for being so descriptive with ur supplies!
My car didn't have tons of yellowing, just some fogginess. I found that opposed to doing a LOT of toothpaste, like in the video, that thinner layers were more effective. I put a thin layer on, circular buffing motion, wipe off. Another layer, rinse and repeat. It seemed to work better than when I used a ton that covered the entire light in a thick layer. I buffed it out with a microfiber cloth afterward. I considered car wax, but wasnt sure how that'd work on headlights. I'll give it a try.
I did this to my silverado headlights. They arent all that yellow, but I don't want them to be yellow at all. It got out some of the yellowness, and fog but not all of it (not much at all). So I guess i'm going to pay someone, or do it myself the professional way. (sanding, and buffing)
@Msport18 I just researched it and the answer is yes. If you use toothpaste thats gritty on glass you can buff/polish out scratches! To apply it use a paper towel. Rub it in a circular motion. After your finished clean it off with some water and vinegar. Thanks for the question.
I did this and it got my lights so clear they were yellow and cloudy I had doubt but I just didnt give up applied toothpaste scrubbed applied more scrubbed abt 6 times and I was amazed how my lights cleared up the more I scrubbed!. Can see the bulbs now.. saved me money ..Thanks!!:)
you could use a buffer pad with a hand held drill makes things easier but be careful not to over heat the so keep with the circular motion......it would be faster less annoying and still cheap ...i don't know what would protect it given your to protect it from uv ...nice vid mehn
@stephykamzy yeah definitely. The toothpaste method is not the best, just a cheap way of getting the job done. I've seen great results with the buffer and some rubbing compound then using rain x afterwards. Thanks for the input!
What should I do if the problem is tartar?
