Just realized Johnny Sack says his angry lines the same way every time. Real calm and loud at the end. "So we go back to business.....LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED?
One of the best Tony/Johnny scenes. My favorite is just after Johnny is named the boss of the Lupertazzis and Tony refuses to tell him where Tony B. is hiding ('Long Term Parking').
"marriage can be very hard work if both aren't carrying that load". I love how they kept after the veiled references to the weight thing with Ginny after it got settled / after Ralph was whacked. That, and the whole thing where Ginny's knees had issues and that's why she couldn't take a ride in the Maserati...hilarious that they kept on this.
Tony only agreed to go along when Carmine was screwing him on cash. Once Carmine settled Tony was no longer getting screwed and stood to gain nothing from his death, except the major risk if it ever got out he was involved.
Johnny however still stood to gain everything, aka..becoming the boss. Mobsters act in their own self interest.
Tony shouldn't have pulled out. In the end, I think it would have been better.
Johnny would have been Boss, without having to go to war with Carmine Jr. There would have been no war, Tony B wouldnt have killed Billy Leotardo, Phil wouldnt have hated the Soprano family, and Bobby and Sil would have never died.
Johnny never trusted Tony again. This season was where the early signs of the New York war began.
@Tobeyonehello Tony would be better off finacially and have more leverage in NY but ur not looking at the risk involved completely. Tony could've possibly been revealed and face the wrath of the other four families for killing a boss, read up on some mob history on authorized boss hits, real brutal stuff. i dont disagree with u. jus feel like tony did have sufficient reasoning and hes not that big of a risk taker, at this point anyway
@LionofNJ2013 I get what youre saying. Yeah, I read up mob histories a lot too, Italian, Irish, Russian, Asian, etc. its very interesting and addictive. I also have been rewatching season 4 since I wrote that comment, from start to finish. When I got to this part in the season, I also thought that Tony shouldn't do it, seemed kind of drastic. I guess I was just thinking about how season 5 turned out when Carmine died, but at this point Tony would have no way of knowing that was going to happen.
@BentHenny Carmine had started taxing Tony for every business Tony had going, even ones Carmine had nothing to do with it. Tony had compromised earlier, but Carmine wouldn't do the same. He was asking for 25% of Tony's esplanade project, which was Tony and Johnny's biggest and only real money maker at the time. Even Johnny thought 25% was too much. When Tony refused, Carmine shut the project down, costing everyone millions a day. Carmine had other money coming in, but no else did.
One of the conversations that I am sure lead to Phil orderingthe whackings of Bobby, Sil and Tony. I think that when Paulie took over in the end he would have eventually ended up whacking Tony because they needed a celan house to operate.
Johnny Sac crying @ his daughters wedding when the feds were ready to take him back 2 prison showed that he might fold under the heat...phil leotardo also noted this...the boss has 2 maintain composure @ all times
@youngquez81 Phil Leotardo was extremely emotionally imbalanced in his own right. He also was not very smart, there was absolutely no finesse to his game, it was all brute force. In the end all it got him was his head smashed under the tire of his wife's SUV.
@JAHamilton77 Phil was a real gangster he served 20 yers without a fucking peep. I doubt Tony would have lasted that long without singing to the Feds. Tony wasn't dumb but he got some lucky breaks. also Phil had a right to be pissed his brother who was made was killed by a non-made guy and Tony got away with it. The only thing that I didn't like about the Sopranos is that they made jersey mafia seem just as strong as new york which is just not realistic.
@crushf5 Yeah he made it on the insides, but he barely made it anytime at all on the outside, and was only boss for like a day. He overreacted to everything. Also you are right, about Tony not being able to make it on the inside....... Kind of shows you how the inside and outside are 2 different games.
@JAHamilton77 I'm not saying Phil was a great boss i'm just saying Phil put up with a lot from tony and he couldn't ever get back his honor out of respect to Johnny Sack. Tony broke alot of rules like touching a made guy, killing a made guy because of a fucking horse, and screwing around with other mobsters girlfriends. I'm not saying Phil wasn't a pain in the ass but he was a guy who respected his oath in the mob
@crushf5 They didn't make it seem like they were just as strong, but that doesn't mean it's impossible that Phil got whacked rather then Tony. When they're both in hiding it's pretty random who get killed first. Besides, what made Phil lose was that a lot of guys in his family was unsatisfied with how it all was handled, so they made peace with the Sopranos behind Phil's back. And another thing, how do you know Phil's brother was made? It was never mentioned.
@EazyMothafuckingE Well its a show in reality the Jersey mafia AKA The Decalvacante Family is like the errand boys of the New York mob. Also I'm pretty sure Billy was a made guy since he was in his 40's respected by New York and was the brother of a powerful capo
Johnny Sack should have been the star of this show. The coolest, suavest, badass mobster I've seen. (And he's kind of lovable, as seen with his family....sort of like the hooker with the heart of gold). God, I love this guy.

man, JS never looked like a mob guy to me; he didn't even sound like one. *BUT* he was so effective. he looked like he lead a crew, like he had a past and could have easily passed off as a corporate leader. great acting. but still, it fell a little short due to the look/sound thingy.

@Djokerrrr JOHNNY SACK SUCKED AT BEING BOSS HE HAD A RAT SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO HIM AND HE LOVED A RAT LIKE HIS UNCLE DID YOU KNOW JOHNNY SACK WOULD STILL BE RUNNING THINGS IF HE NEVER KEPT A RAT BY HIS SIDE AND PUT SO MUCH TRUST IN A RAT AND JOHNNY SACK DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK IN CODED MESSAGES ALL HE DID WAS SPEAK WITHOUT CODE INFRONT OF A RAT HE CLAIMED HE LOVED LIKE AN UNCLE JOHNNY SACK IS AN IDIOT EVEN WHEN YOUR SPEAKIN WITH YOUR MADE GUYS & SOLDIERS & CAPTAINS YOU SHOULD STILL USE CODE
@alexkrycek21 THATS TRUE JOHNNY SACK AND TONY SOPRANO's MEETINGS WHERE A GREAT PART OF THE SERIES AND VERY INTERESTING AND ENJOYABLE PARTS OF THE SERIES TO WATCH NOT THAT ALL THE OTHER PARTS OF THE SERIES WHERE NOT IT WAS JUST I ENJOYED WATCHING JOHN AND TONY MAKE BUSINESS DECISIONS AND CHOICES I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT LA COSA NOSTRA FAMILY IF IT WAS 1, TONY SOPRANO AS ACTING BOSS 2, JOHNNY SACK AS UNDER BOSS 3, AND SILVIO WHERE HE ALREADY IS THE ADVISER RANK
Yeah I agree. I also think John and Tony would have worked very well together as the respective bosses of their families, had it not been for Tony's cousin and John getting sent to prison.
Another scene I love between these two is at Joey Peeps funeral in Season 5where Tony tries to deny that his cousin wasn't involved in Peep's death.
@/alexkrycek21 YEAH I LOVED THAT SCENE AS WELL WITH JOHNNY SACK AND TONY SOPRANO WHERE THEY WHERE AT JOEY PAPARELLI's FUNERAL WHEN TONY SOPRANO SAID OOOOOOHHHH WHAT DID THE MASERATI FLIP YOUR FUCKIN HEAD AND JOHNNY SACK SAID -- YOU TWO FACED FUCKKKK AND THEN TONY SAID OOOOHHHH TAKE IT EASY AND THEY SPOKE INTO THE CAR AND JOHNNY SACK SAID I SWEAR IF YOUR LYING TO ME THE SCENE WAS 1 OF MY FAVORITES SEASON 5 IS ACTUALLY MY FAVORITE SEASON HOW ABOUT YOU?

I WAS SHOCKED THEY NEVER WHACKED JOHNNY SACK IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR SAYIN THE WORD COSA NOSTRA
Your right about that but you also have to think another rule they made was never deal drugs and now in days the mafia and italy they make money doing it read up on it the italian mobs are still around and they been breaking rules jon gotti broke one of the biggest rule wacking a mob boss but its interesting talking to you about this stuff i guess were both fascinated with the italian mafia and who could blame us
JOHH GOTTI IS A DISGRACE TO THE ITALIAN MAFIA THE REASON JOHN GOTTI WHACKED PAUL CASTALLANO WAS BECAUSE
HE WAS AGAINST THE DRUG BUSINESS BECAUSE HE KNEW IT WAS THE DOWNFALL OF THE MAFIA AND
SAMMY GRAVANO & JOHN GOTTI WHERE CAUGHT DEALING DRUGS AND MAKIN LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY AND THY WHERE IN TROUBLE BY PAUL CASTALLANO SO THEY DECIDED TO WHACK PAUL CASTALLANO BECAUSE PAUL CASTALLANO
WAS THE MAN HE WAS AN HONOR
HE KNEW DRUGS WAS THE DOWNFALL OF THE MAFIA AND 2 STAYAWAY FROM IT
That wasn't the only reason JG had Castellano killed. Castellano's house was bugged for a long, long time and he was under indictment. Gotti wanted Big Paul dead for a long time, but Neil Dellacroce wouldn't have it. Once Neil passed away, Gotti had the chance to not only become boss, but to keep Big Paul from spilling the beans to the feds about Angelo Ruggiero's drug biz.
Vince Curatola is a superb actor. to portrayal a character with such passion u have to be a gifted actor. the anger, the facial expressions, and the look in his eyes...wow! what a phenomenal actor!
These scenes- the tension, the mutual respect, the double dealing, the scheming...between Tony & Johnny Sac are true edge-of-your-seat performances. They have the best meeting places...totally private...no sound mikes here. He looks like he's ready to clip T right there. Johnny Sac can string together some curse words like nobody's business. "Don't go into coaching...it's not your long suit". Classic.
Yea Tony Obviously gets clipped at the end, if you can get the whole picture and understand the ending you must see hes their in a restaurant with his family unarmed and with no weapons or guns at that very moment wheir the door opens, So with no way to defend himself he obviously gets clipped. Now that it is Obvious he was killed, but who killed him? New York? The Russians? Possibly Furio? But why would he do it with Carmella their? I feel ripped off with not knowing the killer tho
Tonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyy, ya should of wacked the old fuck's ass and murdered da beeeatch, yo Tonnnnnnny keeping old fuck carrrmiiiiine alive aint helped yo fo shhhhhhhit, mann!!
He used to look soft before he moved into Jersey. This guy used to be the UN : he helped Ralphie and Tony to avoid a war... T could tell him things "that's not your business, don't interfer" It started to change when he started to take the big seat instead of Carmine L.His brother in law said it. At the end , he became wild.
They do not hate each other. Tony and Johnny have a long friendship, but their personal relationship is complicated by their business relationship. It's in Johnny's best interest to make sure NY makes money, sometimes at the expense of NJ. Beyond this, NY is superior to NJ so it is not a relationship of equals. Throw in a personal relationship, and put this in the temptestuous context of the Mafia, and yeah it may seem like they hate the shit out of each other.
That's pretty common among any business associates with bad blood. They can casually hate each other but in the end know it'd be unwise to do anything about it.
Absolutely! Thanks much, darkhorse76. I love how Vincent takes a drag on his after saying "that's the f*cking problem." It's so perfect. *sighing now*.

He used to look soft before he moved into Jersey. This guy used to be the UN : he helped Ralphie and Tony to avoid a war... T could tell him things "that's not your business, don't interfer" It started to change when he started to take the big seat instead of Carmine L.His brother in law said it. At the end , he became wild.

i think Vincent Curiatola would have been gd cast as John Gotti in "Gotti" because in this he kindof looks like him

Johnny Sac is my favorite character on the Sopranos besides Tony. he's so smooth and cool but at the same time he's a snake and very sneaky.

You can clearly see they hate the shit out of eachother. Yet they hug in the end. Thats a strange custom the italians have.
TheMission707 4 years ago
That's pretty common among any business associates with bad blood. They can casually hate each other but in the end know it'd be unwise to do anything about it.
Krowsnose 4 years ago 3
Because they respect eachother and thier positions you fuck.
superjuvefan 4 years ago 7
i dont think they hate each other...
i think they are more angry at each other.
cuz over the seasons u can tell that they
really respect each other and respect creates
like-ing-ness, if u will.
