  • Bascom Lamar Lunsford was my Great Uncle

  • thats when america was still AMERICA and not the fascist madhouse of drug addicts its become now - lets hope americans find their roots again and sweep away evil

  • Thanks for posting this and keeping these great songs alive. In this narcisstic world it's great to see someone remembering the traditions that made this country great. RIP Mr. Bascom.

  • is this style of music still played in the US of A!

  • wtf

    the mule aint moving

  • Well its nice to see that along with the good music and dancing from those days another trait followed down to some,Ignorance. any of you hollering about socialism,go and sign up to refuse your medicare and social security, refuse to use the telephone system.broadcast tv.the national and state hywy system.power generated from the dams put in by the govt.libraries, police, fire, emergency services. If you don't want to be calld ingnorant hillbillys, quit listening and aping fox news

  • Oh how I wish we could go back to these much simpler times and way of life! Great video, love the pictures and the music. Thank you for posting.

  • Despite anyone's personal opinion, this was America in it's Glory Days and was a far better place where you knew your neighbors and didn't lock your doors. You knew who the problem people were and the entire community banded together without prompt and without having to join a "Neighborhood Watch Committee". America is still great, but we need to remember our glorious past and live with one eye behind us, and one eye in front of us.

  • @yougooddog Sounds like Atlantic Canada today. With the benefit of universal medicare!

  • America at her best...

I think Obama is attempting to help us get to our 'higher angels' again...

  • beautiful

  • Bascom and my grandfather named Harry John Lunsford were second cousins. my mother is named Jonnie Lee Lunsford.

  • I regret I never knew Bascom. Never got down to North Carolina to see him. He was a classic. RIP Mr. Bascom.

  • A much better america back then?? PLEASE! Let's see...there was the KKK, lynchings, world war and cold war, racism, inequality of every type, low pay for women, civil rights vioaltions, poverty....just how was it a better America?

  • @islandfunhouse stronger families, lower taxes, no special interest groups dictating our policies, no MTV, no video games, stronger dollar,

no time period was perfect but it was better then- in my opinion

  • @vontrop Wish I was back then!

  • @vontrop How about when people owned slaves? Sounds like that would have been ideal.

  • @islandfunhouse ya damn democrats

  • @islandfunhouse Well, let's see. There wasn't a socialist in the White House. The New Black Panthers didn't intimidate voters with the tacit blessing of the DOJ. BP wasn't giving bribes to the president to soil the Gulf. Iran didn't have a fully functional nuclear program. The Army hadn't been cut in half by Clinton. The culture industry wasn't engaging in the early sexualization of children. Poverty. There's about to be a massive explosion of poverty on O's watch/policies. Need I go on?

  • @BroughamConspiracy Hell no, don'y go on... because you're a rightwing arsehole who is messing up a decent thread by using it as a platform for your bigoted and boring shit. Most of us are here to enjoy the music without having to read fools mouthing off.

  • @tonkle Wow. Dropping the bigot bomb. I guess anyone you disagree with is a bigot. Calling people right wing doesn't win the argument friend. Best of luck with your GED.

  • A much better America back then!

  • @gunsrme1 If you were white and a man.

  • Bascom Lamar Lunsford was my paternal grandfather so I grew up listening to his songs, going to the square dances, watching my parents play the bass fiddle and fiddle. Some of my aunts are in the pictures, my mother and father and I am pictured, skinny little tyke holding up granddad´s big scrapbook on a bearskin rug.

  • @MrHispalis1 Your photo is at the 9:03 mark. Cute kid.

  • This is A classic,I guess that is where Bob Dylan got his tips. This is one of the best i have listen to.

  • what is the name of this first song?

  • Drinking of the Wine, recorded on his Memory Collection at Columbia University in 1935.

  • That first song so pretty and touching. Thank you thank you.

  • also great video, thank you very much

  • i'm proud to be an american, and prouder to be a southerner. happy fourth!

  • I love watching the old-tme clog, buck-dance, flat-footing, done to this wonderful old-time music. :)

  • We are all a lot richer for the efforts of Bascom Lamar Lunsford to preserve our common cultural heritage. Of course it was a labour of love - that much shines through in his recordings of these timeless tunes. Thanks for posting this.

  • Thanks for posting this slideshow. Bascom was my great grandfather and it was nice to find some more photos of him here.

  • went to this festival for the first time yesterday, and it was fantastic! Thanks for posting this video.

  • When I was a student at MHC, the Lunsford Festival was always one of my favorite times.
