This is why I never liked American Idol it was only a matter of time.Before someone took their life because of Simon's out of line personal comments. Goodspeed's suicide could have been prevented Simon knew she was an obsessive fan of Paula. The people of the show only cared about having a good laugh at Paula Goodspeed's expense.

Sad situation. The truth is auditions are brutal, not just American Idol auditions. You have to uave a thick skin, because you will get laughed at and demeaned.

I didn't realise that they knew Paula Goodspeed was a stalker BEFORE the audition - in which case it's outrageous that they let her enter the competition whilst Paula Abdul was a judge. She shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near Paula Abdul and from the point of view of Ms Goodspeed's mental health problems it was completely inappropriate to humiliate her in front of her 'idol'.

Paula should have refused to appear knowing that this woman was stalking her.

Okay, I remember hearing about this, but all I heard was "a girl" killed herself in front of her house. I forgot about it, and a couple mins ago I was watching bad auditions and I saw Paula Goodspeed. I didn't know she was the girl until this! I'M CREEPED OUT!

I have never really liked simon, and I am glad to see no one is blaming Paula Abdul. I agree with some people saying that AI should screen the contestants a bit better, and not make the people who are obviously in a mental state to which they are borderline retarded or mentally ill. However, having mental deficiencies shouldn't be the deciding factor in being rejected for a show. If a person has talent which in most of these cases they don't. let them through.

I really think that Simon and Randy lack pragmatics. Sometimes, I feel they need to sense body language, and take a couple of steps back about the hostility they use in their critiques. AI was pretty mean to both the Paula's in a different way, and since the stalking took place long before the audition, why didn't the police or anyone help her get checked in somewhere? This thing is very much sad.

@KeiSam7 They do. Apparently they knew this and did it anyway because they thought it would be good for tv. One of the producers later said that "no one could have known anything would actually happen."

I think American Idol has treated this woman like crap. It's a blessing she isn't getting her contract renewed. They are responsible for putting her in danger.

And the show actually didn't do Paula Goodspeed any good either. It's like they set up this very unstable person to be rejected by her idol (Abdul), not to mention be ripped apart by Simon. The most stable people find his comments harsh, but someone like Goodspeed, with a very deluded view of her "talent"? Not nice.

@tygersflowerz I don't think you get it. Paula goodspeed was obsessed with Paula and even went to the extent of changing her name. She had mental issues. You have to look sternly to that fact. She even killed herself outside of paula's home. You may see paula abdul as the bad person but she wasn't. She was also being stalked for some time by her. There is no bad person and she was a terrible ass singer so they all said no. That simple. This is NOT a mean comment author, it's the truth.

@Jakobane Re-reading my own post, I think I understand how you misread and understood it. When I said "treated this woman like crap".... I was referring to Paula Abdul. They treated Abdul like crap, and it's a blessing she didn't get her contract renewed, because she is better off without them. They set her up with a confrontation with her very unstable fan, which in turn, caused the severely unstable fan to spiral down to where she couldn't climb back.

@tygersflowerz I've always detested the cruel 'circus freak show' element of these 'talent' shows where the producers deliberately allow bewildered, deluded, hopelessly untalented people through for pure sadistic, comical pleasure. These contestants are so vulnerable and devoid of self-awareness that they don't realise the joke's on them and end up being humiliated, embarrassed and in some cases having their lives ruined.

It's a pity their families/friends don't discourage them from entering.
