  • I am INTP personality and my social anxiety is so bad that I am on medication (antidepressants) for a while.

  • i think im this personality type

  • INTP here as well, but you kinda strike me as a less intimidating INTJ (lol). Were the scores for your P and J very close?

  • @sputnikfire No, but interestingly enough my T/F were very close. I'm 99% certain Introverted thinking is my dominant function. I have a good INTJ friend, and the difference between us is that he is much more willing to get things done, where as I'd much rather sit back for a while. He is certain in his opinions where as I need time to consider them.

  • INTP female here and this explains a lot

  • I wouldn't be surprised if there was a strong correlation between people with the so called 'INTP' personality type and people who are diagnosed with aspergers.

  • @moyga There is actualy

  • actually

  • Comment removed

  • @moyga Oh my lord.... hahahahaha

    That's crazy.

I don't have aspergers but I have some of the symptoms

  • this coming from my own expereince,

being INTP and 'was' severely social phobia,

Trying to over-analyze things, plus solitary lifestyle

I got over it about 2-3 years ago, still rarely feel awkward moment in social gathering with strangers

but i've learnt how to fake and control emotion quite well most of the times,

People who not closed to me,might take me as 'Extroverted' type

  • Meditition, my friend, meditation. That's how you're gonna get relaxed and find peace within our "pointless" existence.

  • Well, I can say that I'm "I???". It's about 50%-50% between N/S, F/T and J/P.

So in my case labels won't really do the justice.

My social anxiety is quite unbearable.

  • Hello. I'm yet another INTP (cause there are soooo many of us) and I think I do kind of suffer from social anxiety. It isn't too bad and normally doesn't affect my life much but there it is.

More interesting is the fact that before this video (even with all the reading I did) I never thought that locking myself in a very orderly, private life wasn't normal. Despite media's habit of showing otherwise I thought that a life like mine was very normal. That was probably short-sighted of me.

  • Depression is linked to intelligence. Intelligence is linked to INTP. The ability to problem solve can eventually lead you to the ultimate truth that there is no point to life. And that the only point to life would be pursuing happiness while you wait to get killed out of the pointless game like a pawn in chess. But then you realize that pursuing happiness is a personal delusion. And that happiness is only a temporary fortune you hope to cling onto in the unfortunate situation that is existence.

  • I am apparently an INTP and I feel I too suffer from social anxiety. I'm a very visual person in terms of how I think and how I approach situations. What is hard for me about communicating my thoughts to others is the abstract nature of verbal language itself. Talking to others is terrifying for me.

It's potentially a bad technique, but often I find logic games, visual memorization and philosophy double as distractions from these sorts of troubles. Whatever works, though, I suppose.

    Cheers

  • I identify with INTP as well, but I don't consider myself socially anxious. I used to be painfully shy, but as I've gotten to know myself, I've become more confident. I am still terrified of public speaking, but so many people are, regardless of personality type. I definitely prefer solitude or very small groups to crowds, though. If I can't make an integral contribution to the conversation (and in large groups, they usually small talk about crap), I'd rather not be there.

  • P.S. Have you done more research about personality type linked to depression? My INTP doesn't struggle with depression, but I definitely have...so I'm not sure anyone can really say one type is more likely to have depression than another. Anyone who feels trapped or hopeless or anxious etc. for life circumstance reasons, biological or distorted thinking etc. will be more prone to experience depression. I'm very impressed that you've come as far as you have to make this video! Thanks again.

  • @brackenck Thanks for your comment. I think depression is a general trait so it is not exclusive to one personality. However, I think there is a chance that some personality types are more prone to depression. I havn't done too much research into it but perhaps those who lack FE (extroverted feeling) would maybe internalize their feelings which could cause depression. That's just a guess though. I did read somewhere that introverted types are more prone to depression but I can't remember why.

  • Thanks for your video. I'm an INFJ married to an INTP. He doesn't enjoy crowds or big changes to his routine either. He doesn't seem to think he has social anxiety, but says he just doesn't like people that much lol. I've made a few MBTI videos - it is a very fascinating theory. I enjoy studying Enneagram as well. Best of luck in everything!

  • Another INTP here who just recently learned about Myers-Briggs and personality types. Good video, you seemed to hit upon many of the key INTP traits.

I've certainly experienced my fair share of social anxiety and depression so it's been nice to learn about personality as a basis for those traits. It's gotten better with age, but there was a time when I was younger that the discomfort you speak of was quite crippling and contributed to the depression...compounding the problem.

  • @gkniffen 'personality as a basis for those traits'- I think this is a good point. I used to think that my reluctance to follow social convention and my general unease engaging with others was a weakness on my part, and this was what caused the anxiety. Now I realize that it is something of a necessarry condition of being a logical intoverted personality. Thanks for your comment.

  • Good vid. I'm intj but sometimes test intp. Had social p. greatly in my life but seems to be okay now. Some other vids mention about small talk as well.

  • In the past when I've been approaching groups of people I'm not acquainted with, sometimes I'll think to myself "Well, here comes the circus". It's a snide thought but it mentally braces me for whatever silliness or tedium I'm about to face. I would say that I definitely have an uneasiness about people and generally expect the worst, which may or may not qualify as social anxiety..

  • @FreeLongPig I understand what you mean. It's like we prefer our world to be orderly and when we approach a crowd we are approaching potential disorder, and perhaps it is this lack of control which provokes some anxiety.

  • @dyingatheist18 This explains why I am most frightened of -- CHILDREN! They are like bands of chaos. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

  • Everything you said was exactly me except for being prone to unhappiness. I would not have made the video that you did. I’m embarrassed by my personality shortcomings. It made me feel good to see someone being so frank about this. I might go looking for those INTP groups you mentioned.
