I dont think you can trust that display! Its not official!

Just look how it responds wrong several times on down-shifts!

So it could have 7 gears, but I do know that Renault drove with a 6 speed box in some races as late as 2003 and perhaps also 2004!

Think its got to do with saving weight and space! If the gearbox, are smaller the car can be slimmer at certain places!

And if you can save some weight, you have more free ballast weight to place for optimal weight balance (min. 600/605 kg)

@Michaelingolfhansen you are half right - the display on this and similar videos is complete shite. clueless/wrong half the time. but renault always only had 6 gears while using their V10. they upgraded to 7 when they moved to V8s.
