-The great thing about the silat is that you have total control and decide how bad you have to hurt the person in order to subdue them. I've found that with my JKD/Kali training it is totally overkill all the time and is really only applicable to an all-out fight. The principles of control and body manipulation presented here are a fine combination with any type of grappling art.
maybe you mean "putar badan" or twist or body spin. Sorry for little comment. . In Minangkabau silat term, what you mean is called as "gelek" /ghe-leg/. Sorry my bad English.. You are a GREAT silat teacher who make easy your student to understand.. Best regards from Indonesia..
Thank you Pendekar for the great information. I must confess I have downloaded several of your clips onto my phone and study certain sections before class to bring in fresh martial manna for the students.
High respect to you Bobbe. I must ask the question- could you show the improvisation if he comes with a punch/fast retraction combo-(which is more realistic anyway). I think we buy into the (this will work-mindset) which has potential for devastating results when it doesn't happen. Silat is beautiful for taking an opponents space away from him- It would be great to show the different variations. Either way- for what you did show- very well done (thanks for posting). Your work is sound.
I will, but let me state here and now that this is NOT how the technique will go down "in the real". I posted this as an exercise to familiarize yourself with body manipulations using the arm. I could say "Do this after you have knocked the bejesus out of someone" and that would answer the question. But give me some time, I'll post a bit more on entries and body work.
So much knowledge, do you ever sleep? Thanks for continuing to put out quality information. Your videos are the example for the world of martial arts.
