As a "Korean-American" I can't help but to feel very disturbed about this clip, because my parents and many other Korean parents are victims of this type of American propaganda. However, what's worse is that this propaganda is being spewed by self-important Korean American elitist that manage to persuade, via church, the underprivileged Korean Americans that their "success" here is a result of "hard-work." However, they fail to mention that they come from well to do families to begin with.
around 1994 or so, there was a tv series in the u.s. about a korean teenage boy who's adopted by a white family. the show only lasted a few episodes. i think the main character's name was sam. does anyone else remember this show? what was the title?
But honestly.. I am not happy being a Korean-American. I would rather be much happier living in Korea as Just another normal Korean. America is just too much for me.. Too Wild.. 본인의 발언이 실례가 되었다면, 사과드리겠습니다. 하지만 진심입니다. 고향이 좋아요!! 미국은 그냥 관계없는 타지의 깡 시골 같이 느껴져요..
What a poignant video...I like how it demonstrated the toil and sacrifices Korean immigrants made to live the American dream. I just wish more Korean-Americans would become more outspoken and proactive in American society. Our hierarchical culture instilled in many of us Korean-Americans should be regarded as counterproductive, and instead, we should learn better people skills rather than 1-upping each other. I hope we flourish in American society not exclusively measured economically. Fight On!
Interesting. Vicariously experiencing the toils of Korean-Americans striving for upward mobility really touches my heart. Especially when relating it to how my parents still toil as middlemen merchants. But Korean-Americans need to stop being so insouciant towards the status quo, and this can be achieved by being active voters. Fight On!
