I was in Lisbon in Sep, 2008 and i saw a band from Ecuador playing in the street, it was almost the same Andean music. you described what i felt at that day very well.
i spent the next 2 days looking for then in the streets till i found them playing.. i love music.. and i love what it does to my soul.

Their name is probably Sumaq Llaqta.
I also happened to listen to them in Copenhagen and looked for them.
