  • Man, I love hearing that plane's engines. I get to hear it every day too :)

  • @liOVERLOADil I am pmsl do you really do that lol

  • It IS a C5!!! I have been watching a/c since the 50's.

  • Aaaaaah-mazing.

  • You fucking people outside of the fence... seriously. I was so tired of having to call the LE desk all the time.

  • That aint no C-5,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no way

  • @EmptyHighway1 it is

  • @mortiuk If u look at 0:56, xou can see the 4 Frontwheels of the C-5. The C-17 has just two!

  • @mortiuk For someone who "works" on them, you sure as shit don't know how to identify them... that is MOST CERTAINLY a C-5 Galaxy.

  • Yeah I love the unique sound of the C-5, that high pitched whine.

  • Comment removed

  • @mortiuk That's a C-5.

  • @mortiuk Thats a C5. There were no winglets.

  • @mortiuk ur retarted c17's do not sound like that, and c17's are only about half the size

  • @fallout3freak360 And carry more strangely.... But i am not disagreeing with you. Gotta love both of them.

  • @bpoostrander yea and its cool because dover airforce base is about 40 miles from my house, its in Delaware and they have like 15 C5's based there, they also have the newer c17 but im not sure how many

  • @fallout3freak360 Oh wait, it can carry heavier things due to a reinforced fuselage.

  • @mortiuk its a C5 if u work in ur job u must be at the bottom of the list

  • love it.

  • The sound that let me sleep......!!!

  • I miss the sound over FRA Frankfurt

  • These will NOT be phased out. Not a chance. While the C-17 is indeed more advanced, it is much smaller and can't carry the same payload. The C-5 will continue to be upgraded and kept around just like the B-52.

  • this isn't low but the c-5a has a very great sound

  • they are phasing these out, just like the c-141, and they are being rapidly replaced by the c-17 which is very state of the art, and can take off and land on a shorter approach. I am sad to see it go, I like the c-5, I flew on it once when I was Air Force active duty in the 1990's

  • This is a great plane when the can keep it flying. Will be sad to see it go when they are done phasing it out.

  • I doubt if they will get rid of it anytime soon. They need planes that can handle massive cargo loads, especially tanks. They need all the transports they have and then some.

  • those engines make a insane sound

  • flying shark

  • i love this sound

  • Thats the most awsome plane in the whole world.

I just hate the squeeling noise after it goes by.

  • ah man, thats the best part!

  • i know.....

  • ah u just hear the air smashing on the metal lmao

  • Very unmistakable sound. I used to live in the flight pattern of Langley AFB. I loved it when those C5's would go over. That sound always raised the hairs on the back of my neck. I frigging LOVE it!

  • me too! i used to live right off of marcella ave, and when i heard them doing touch-and-go's, i'd drive over and sit at the end of the runway

  • that plane, is the only to make that sund and pitch, un mistakable with eyes closed

  • I used to live near Lackland AFB... These planes are cool, but when they fly that low over your house in the mid afternoon when you are takin a nap, or outside and it sounds like they are gonna crash when the pilot throttles down... They arent cool, but annoying as hell...

  • i'm only watching this video cause it has ramstein in the title ... and I wanted to blow my speakers up

  • How does something THAT big manage to stay in the air?

  • Bernoulli's principle & ALOT of power!

  • Thanks for posting the video: i've been looking for video or sound bytes of the C-5 lifting off for a while. Reminds me when I was a 2-Tango for a short stint in the USAF; damn I loved the sound of that plane, even when everyone else hated it like nails on a chalkboard.

The only difference between the audio in this film and real life... is that the engine has a bit of a wavering effect to it; it's not that steady vacuum-cleaner sound in the beginning, it wavers.

  • Re: wavering sound, I think it's more noticeable when the 4 engines are at idle. Although, when all 4 are at power, no matter if you are on the ground (doing an engine run) or inside while it's flying.. that wavering sound is still there. Love it!

  • Woah, that screaching sounded like an eagle or a hawk....lol...a patriotic Galaxy!

  • Not Patriotic Galaxy. For when it starts up does not bitch, curse, swear, scrutinize, criticize, and question our government.

    It is truely Nationialistic Galaxy.

    Too be politically correct.

  • Ok, geez I'm sorry I have disgraced you. I was just trying to say something a little bit funny without being pounded on for the slightest mistake. You people are so judgmental.

  • Nah your now educated and expanded your mind. Not to many know the difference between Patriotism and Nationalism means. I did not mean to pound on you, but give you an informative fact.

  • ok, i'm sorry, thanks for the info.

  • Damn nice vid man. Wish I was there.

  • Uuuggh... That hard metal grinding sound.

The C-5 is a great lifter but damn That aircraft's noise will drive you insane.

  • thats what real men call music. sorry you dont feel the same but thats a lot of horsepower at work and every true man will appreciate it

  • they used to come down to mcleean afb in sacremento ca all the time and do touch and goes and they were less than 100ft above me and my dad's heads also it is listed as the 6th bigest plane in the world

  • that is my job

  • Yep. Exactly how it was when I was watching those bad boys of the 60th MAW taking off out of Travis AFB, CA

  • dude, i was stationed on ramstein. this video just brought back flashbacks cus i was on the air field sweeper everday. i had to chase C5's down the runway everday. i know that runway and airfield like the back of my hand!

  • had 1 take off right over us at Ft Dix.

  • At Lackland those fly over a out every 15 minutes. Used to wake me up every night

  • best sound in the world.

  • i went to antarctica with my dad on one of those its a awsome plane

  • When I was a kid our house was about 3 miles from NAS Norfolk in Virginia and my father was a sheet metal mechanic at the rework facility there. The C-5 planes use to float right over the house when they were coming in to land. What a beautiful sight AND sound!!!

  • hey Aircrew and Mechanics, we only like the sound of the engines because we can't hear them like anyone else. Check the results on your recent hearing test and you will see what i mean. Although doing an eng run at 0600 on Ramstein on a Saturday morning is the best it gets when it comes to public disturbance.

  • HEY! REMEMBER THIS!! FS Game can keep the C-5 sounds alive FOREVER!!!

All due respect to C5 Guys and Gals- that shrill sound will not be missed by those who were kept awake at places like Travis, where the hills behind the base amplified the reverb sounds when jets were runnning up at night there back in '76 :)

  • Which was there first, you or the base? If the base was there first, stop complaining about the noise.

  • Depature end of rwy 09? I remember when we lost 68-000216 at Ramstein back in 90 as the Shield was kicking off. Kelly crew was flying it and they think that the #1 engine TR opened. I logged 6981.5 hours on that beast as an instructor FE.

  • when is it coming to holland :P

  • C5 BEAR

  • all i have to say if fuck that noise. c-5M coming soon, no more whining lol -travisafb ca c-5 crew dog

  • I think the TF 29 sound is quite similar to the noise produced by P&W JT9D-7 engines used on the Boeing 747-100 and 747-200

  • ein Stativ wäre die Lösung

  • Sounds so cool!

  • such an annoying sound.... granted i hear it every day

  • DAMN I LOVE THAT NOISE!

  • The TF-39 sounds very similar to the orignal CF6-6d's that were on the DC-10-10's. I do find it interesting though how when GE upgraded the engine to the CF6-50, they increaded from 39,300 to 52,500 lbs of thrust (I do believe) through the addition of several more compressor stages and the awesome whine virtually disappeared. Too bad, I love the sound of those things!

  • haha. i took off from ramstein in a c-5. fun stuff

  • Ja ich könnte den ganzen tag da stehen und zu gucken, macht immer wieder spaß!

  • No...this is a C-5. Look first at the landing lights on the wing tip. C-141's landing lights are between the engines when viewed from the front.

The whine is distinctive...the landing gear and doors are distinctive.

The C-5's and 141's do not have the same motors. C-141's have TF-33 Low-bypass motors. C-5's have TF-39's that are high-bypass. The sound is completely different, and the motors are different.

    Nice try, though.

  • C5a's used to fly over my house out of Greenham common during the 80's and 90's. probably about the same altitude - seemed lower at the time. I counted 17 in one day.

  • that is my favorite plane.I am going to miss the TF39s. Such a great sound.

  • incredible sound they make,

  • u sure thats a 141, course 141s and 5s look simalilar, otherwise its awsome

  • whuuuh xD gutes video ;) danke das du dir auch meins angeguckt hast *ichweißichnerv*

ich liebe dich und das weißt du auch never forget this honey :-*

  • I love the sound of the C-5s flying around Travis AFB. Go 60th AMXS!

  • Cool video, I love hearing the sound of the C-5s flying around the Travis AFB area. Go 60th AMXS!

  • that TF-39 whine is what seperated Freddy from the others, that and it being a per diem queen hehe. Miss the jet already, Loadmaster outta Travis.

  • the C-141 sounded almost like the C-5. Same engine type too i believe.

  • Been living under the shadow of the 105th AW outta Stewart ANGB, NY. I love the TF-39 whine!

  • With the CF6 engine upgrade that old whine of the GE TF-39 engines won't last too much longer on this planes. Nice video. I was an F.E. on these jets.

  • Ive heard about that. One has already been re-engined with CF6-80C2s i believe. Why couldnt they jus upgrade those TF39s to produce 55,000 pounds of thrust instead of 48,000. We have the technology and cant nothin beat the sound!

  • damn what a sound, i'm livin in landstuhl

  • your telling me, I work ont he damn things.

  • A maintenance miracle

  • Absolutly great !
