@Alexander021 Hahaha. Ignorant! Socialism is a mask for comunism! Western Europe has had social-democrat countries, not socialist regimes like Cuba or Venezuela!
@DieGoth74 How would you know Cuba is a jail if you haven't lived there either? You're just another typical brainwashed idiot, people like you murder in disagreement with other people's preferences and beliefs, just like in Vietnam. Also, socialism is a broad term under which communism falls, all socialism is is an idea that promotes fairness and equality. The very fact that you call Western Europe 'Social Democrats' shows how little you know...social comes from 'Socialism'
@faiyazamin90 Brainwashed idiot! have you been in Cuba? Or as you said, have you LIVED in Cuba? I mean, like a CUBAN! Not like an European with money. You're a fucking killer. How many people have you killed in the name of communism? Were you a mercenary in Angola or South America? Did you train South American guerrillas and taugh them how to kidnapp and kill people? Stupid ignorant! Social democrats are moderate socialists with capitalism. Socialist countries are usually communists
@DieGoth74 Cuba has one of the best educational and healthcare systems in the world, the only reason I can assume you think it's such a terrible place is because it's poor. Well it's a third world country, just like many African and Asian countries. People migrate from Cuba to America for the same reasons anyone from third-world countries do, to become rich(er).
@faiyazamin90 blah blah blah. This stupid asshole repeats what communists say about Cuba to justify the opression to oppositors. Yes, Cuba has the most educated taxi drivers around the World! Hahaha. When I see the first American migrating to Cuba I will believe you're smart!
@DieGoth74 Also let me remind you that communist/socialist governments have always come into power through popular movements and revolutions, the Cuban people embraced communism (except the rich obviously) when Fidel Castro came, as did the Vietnamese and many others. Deaths from communism were not communism but other stupid party policies that have nothing to do with communism or socialism. And social democrats in essence are people who want to transit into socialism through democracy.
@faiyazamin90 Oh, how stupid! Retard! Communism comes through WAR AND VIOLENCE! Remeber Checoslovaquia, asshole! Remember the invasion to Poland! Remember how was the Eastern German dictatorship! Remember how it was in Romania, retard. Fucking retard. That's what you are.
@DieGoth74 Eastern Europe became communist as a result of the second world war. Is that different to America overthrowing Western Germany and making it capitalist? And as I said, communism did not make Eastern Germany poor, Stalin did. Pitting deaths under communism is like saying capitalism killed those killed in Iraq. Socialist countries are statistically happier, and 66% of Russians actually preferred communism. I'm not saying I'm communist, I'm just saying you can't ignorantly criticize it.
@faiyazamin90 Haha. Ignorant! I'm talking about Checoslovaquia. This country was invaded by the Soviet Union and all what they wanted was democracy! Oh, poor West Germany. It was invaded by America to be made capitalist! Hahahahaha. I don't know the first communist and rich country in the World. And you? Hahahaha. Stupid liar! Socialists countries are happier? Which? Yugoslavia, the saddest place in the 80s and 90s? Hahahahaha. I don't care what Russians prefer. They're the drunkiest people!
@DieGoth74 Maybe if you could actually fucking spell Czechoslovakia I wouldn't have a problem with that. Your beliefs are completely moronic... you don't care what Russians prefer? So now you get to choose how they manage their country, because you think they're all drunk? You need to realize there are loads of countries out there following socialist principles; most of Europe, Canada, and South America to name a few. We're all human, and capitalism has created most of the poverty you see now.
@faiyazamin90 Now you spell DEMOCRACY, retard! What do Russians prefer, idiot? They don't believe in their elections, what can they say about democracy? Stupid idiot! How can capitalism create poverty if the World was very poor before capitalism was invented? Hahaha. Ignorant!
@DieGoth74 Why do you think there are so many anti-capitalist demonstrations going on? It's because people are beginning to understand. The rich minority will always have what they need, while the poor majority will hang onto the dream that one day they'll be rich. Top 400 earners in the USA earn more than the poorest 50%. That's 400 people vs 150 million. Everyone deserves to get what they need, not what they want, but clearly you think people should be exploited for profit, and still be happy.
@faiyazamin90 Hahahahaha. Idiot! Which anti-capitalist demonstrations? Where? Hahahaha. Crisis make people protest but the Soviet Union could not bear their first big crisis. They collapsed! You are a moron living in the UK, right? Why don't you move to Cuba or North Korea? It's so easy to say that capitalism is evil writing in your iPad, in a comfortable loft in London. Castro would have been called an "ally" managing a "struggling democracy." But there is room for constructive criticisms (hear that dumbeddown demonizers?) However, perhaps the biggest thing intentially ignored by U.S. ultranationalists is the negative impact of the U.S. embargo (El Bloqueo). Several votes (though nonbinding) in the UN General Assembly shown that the world opposes it. But the positives have made Cuba a major player on the world stage, shedding its noteriety as "The Whorehouse of the Americans." What U.S. leaders, e.g., have really hated about Castro is that he didn't play the game. They really don't have sincere priorities for the Cuban people or Cuba as a soveriegn nation. If Castro was a willing tool, U.S. leaders would have called him an "ally" regardless of his behavior.
Castro & other Cubans risked years of imprisonment at hard labor. They were set free as a "goodwill" gesture. Then Castro, etc. took the biggest risk, potentially endangering their lives, to continue an armed struggle based in the Sierra Maestra. I wouldn't exactly call this a convenient manuever. But Castro, etc. were determined to liberate Cuba from being a U.S. market satellite/virtual neocolony a la Cuba's national hero Jose Marti. And to usher in an alternative system...(Contd)
An overview of Fidel Castro: His detractors & demonizers have called him a dictator out for raw, naked power. But if Castro was simply after that, he could have taken a much easier path. W/ his intelligence, he could have purely aligned himself w/ the Cuban elite, like previous Cuban leaders. In turn, Castro could have curried favor w/ U.S. imperialism & thus in combo could have had a better chance to rise to power maintaining business-as-usual. But he & other Cubans didn't. (Contd)
@mazingerZful You could very well be refering to the U.S.-backed-50-year-old Somoza family dictatorship in Nicaragua w/ its 19th century-like capitalist "Eden" for the few fetishly feeding at the country's trough while many coped w/ its poverty, illiteracy, inequality, substandard healthcare because local & foreign elites' profiteering was held high over the interests of the country. I guess some fucking Right-wing imbeciles don't recognize the dictatorship of the "invisible hand."
@revolution123ize I didn't know you could read my mind (I never said i was right-wing). Congratulations. Did Jimmy Carter support Somoza??? Nope, i don't think so. In fact, Carter stopped backing his dictatorship and prohibited Somoza from entering th US. And Reagan never supported D'Aubuisson and Arena (he compared them with the nazis). Maybe you should improve your reading skills when using history books. The imbeciles here are you and the celebrities who spit on the system that made them rich
@mazingerZful I never said you were Right-wing. (My last statement wasn't necessarily directed toward you, but...) Carter supported him at least for a while. Regardless, previous U.S. presidents supported the Somoza crime family, as I said, for 50 years. FDR said of the first Somoza, "He's an SOB but he's our SOB." Reagan supported Rios Mont, the Contras, & so it wouldn't be surprising that he supported the Salvadoran gov. which included D'Aubuisson & ARENA. Improve on your imbeciliality.
@revolution123ize you forgot one little detail: Somoza's dictatorship ENDED 33 YEARS AGO, while Castro's regime is still going on, torturing and sending to jail "enemies of the state" (translation: people who want democracy in Cuba). But if you admire this bastard, i'm sure you also admire Bush, whose decisions have killed thousands of people in Irak, apart from ordering tortures in Guantanamo. It's curious how left wing and right wing fascists have so much in common. Don't you think so??
Most of these hollywood people are morons who should stick to what they know anyways. Seriously, if you're gaining your political philosophy from men like Brad Pitt, you should probably just shut your mouth.
@mazingerZful They say "Wall Street is always governing you" but they don't say that you don't have to be the son of the president if you want to work in Wall Street!
@mazingerZful HAHA. The US change their president every now and then to create the illusion that democracy is dominating the political process. But in fact, it's Wall Street and corporations that are controlling the White House, and the best way to maintain this status is to support two parties whose policies may differ in the way they speak, but not the way they act. Remember Obama's campaign? He made dozens of promises to win the election; which of them has he kept by now? Think about it.
@DieGoth74 I don't even know why I'm arguing, I've already made my point and every human being with an IQ of over 60 is able to see that I'm right. You're not even able to conduct a conversation that isn't based on offending others. You haven't produced one single valid and reasonable argument so far. Close-minded people like you will never see the truth, instead all they do is insulting people with other views and opinions on the internet. YOU, sir, are the loser here. I pity you.
@MrTaQiNonen Your stupid point is that you didn't receive education in your school. You received indoctrination instead! Stupid asshole! Nobody with an IQ over 50 would agree with you! You fascist, think that you are the owner of the truth. Loser! Hahahaha. You must be a retarded or a teen!
@MrTaQiNonen No, idiot! English is not my mother tongue, asshole! Hahahahaha. I received a very good education although some teachers tried to indoctrinate me. It seems that in your case you were easy to fool by some loser commie.
@DieGoth74 English isn't my mother tongue either, but apparently I've acquired more knowledge of it than you; probably the same with history, politics and sociology. And, most important, you've obviously never learnt to have respect for other people either. You should have rather listened to your teachers, I guess.
@MrTaQiNonen Mr. Idiot, what are you doing speaking the language "of the Empire"? Your ignorance in history and politics is obvious as your indoctrination in school. I can respect people, not commies! Hahaha.
@DieGoth74 He didn't say Africa was capitalist, he meant that capitalism denies the African people access to the goods and services that we are provided with. You can't disclaim this, it's a fact. They are too poor to afford the things we're used to and they stay poor because in capitalism, they never gain access to those things. That's the logic of capitalism. The rich become richer, the poor become poorer. This is amplified by global warming, which, of course, is being denied by capitalists.
@MrTaQiNonen Haha. Stupid! How can capitalism deny anything to people if capitalism is all about giving products and receiving money for that? Hahahahahaha. You make me laugh! Stupid socialist! Go back to school!
@DieGoth74 You call Europe socialist? So the banks are socialist? And what about the US then? Also socialist? You need to get your facts straight.. even the UN admit Cuba has the highest literacy rate. In the US, on the other hand, only millionaires can study at university.. great, great capitalism, with 20% of the people living in poverty and the richest 1% controlling basically everything. Capitalism obliterates democracy, but of course, you close-minded capitalists don't want to see that.
@DieGoth74 Before Castro, Cuba was a dictatorship of the right in which the overwhelming majority of the population was starving and had no rights. After Fidel, no one goes hungry and everyone has free access to education, health, food and transport. It is also useless to explain that in Cuba there are no children begging in the street and that the majority of the population has higher education available free of charge.
@DieGoth74 What is the alternative? The socialist regime in helped Cuba have the highest literacy rate in South America. Health care and education are extraordinarily good and free. I agree that the regime violates human rights and that there should be some market to make the people richer, but Cuba's not as bad as American media say. Capitalism, on the other hand, leaves billions of people in the third world starving. Everybody refuses to help them in order not to interfere in the free market.
@MrTaQiNonen Haha. Liar! Cuba has the highest literacy for taxi drivers! You can see engineers and doctors driving taxis, that's all! Cubans can study whatever they want for free... but they can't found companies! Hahahaha. Socialism makes stupid people - like you - believing that governments have to give you everything. Just look Europe and their crisis. Socialist countries are broken!
If Cuba & Fidel are so great then it shouldnt be difficult to find someone who went from Miami to Cuba on a shitty homemade raft b/c they just couldnt take living under America's oppressive rule anymore & wanted a brighter future for their children which they planned to find in Cuba
@mikedd56 Maybe if there wasn't a 40 year long trade embargo on Cuba conditions would be better. Maybe we should let other countries govern themselves instead dictating how other countries should be run.
@mikedd56 Cuba has been under US embargo for decades, hindering their efforts at industrialization. Taking this into account, Cuba's a pretty impressive case, especially for a Latin American country.
Its always our fault isnt it. If we remove brutal dictators like Sadaam were assholes. Although he was a swell guy & it was esp. rude of us to bust up all of his torture/rape chambers that had woman AND children, but still no reason to cock block. If we do nothing leave Fidel alone its our fault for the shape of his country. Why is it always anti america
BTW Cuba has the 2nd highest rate of imprisoned journalists in the world.
@mikedd56 I've never heard anybody call the US an "asshole" for removing brutal dictatorships, but for imposing them like in Chile, supporting them like in Cuba and El Salvador, or co-opting the energy resources while destroying a country like in Iraq and Libya. The fact that the US is a superpower and has influence in every country is not an argument against the fact that the US has an economic embargo against Cuba. An embargo is not "leaving" Castro (I think you mean Raul?) alone.
...too that you say we destroyed Libya & took its resources. It was Libya's people who rebelled against their dictator. We gave them the tiniest bit of aid. They just captured the dictator there. I'm guessing its pretty volatile right now plus they just won their independence, I dont think it would go too smoothly the US just strolling in there saying move aside we're here for oil.
@mikedd56 The tiniest bit of aid? You genuinely think the NTC could have conceivably won that war against Gaddafy's superior military might and technology without French weapons and US/Britian/France bombing? They captured the dictator after a French bomb hit his convoy in Sirte. The US has already opened up the country for foreign investment. This is reported in the establishment media. You could find it in the New York Times.
@mikedd56 No, it doesn't. The Committee to Protect Journalists cites 4 journalists imprisoned in Cuba. Uzbekistan has 6, Vietnam has 5, Ethiopia has 4. Myanmer has 13, Eritrea has 17, Iran has 34 and China has 34. An International Press Institute report has Turkey topping the list at 57. Cuba released 17 journalists last October, dropping it way down the list. This is easy information to find.
...would be so high. And OMG even if we did we just fought a fucking war for these people, its so horrible to ask for a lil discount oil in return. We have to be fucking saints now. You do realize that embargo was b/c Fidel wouldnt meet certain established humanitarian policies or w/e. But either way everything you just said seems to coincide with what I originally said. We take any sort of foreign action we are the bad guys. We dont take action we are the bad guys. Thats amazing..
@mikedd56@mikedd56 An occupying power is supposed to pay reparations, not demand them. A war where we killed a million of them and ruined their infrastructure and still have about 75% of the population opposed to our presence is not a war for the people, it's a war against them. If we care about humanitarianism in Cuba, why didn't we in Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile, Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war... the examples could continue.
@mikedd56 The last three journalists, contrary to your assertion that Cubans view the US as some utopia, say they want to *stay in Cuba* after they're released. How strange.
Right so my data was outdated but it doesnt change much. It still means 17 journalists were in jail. And its funny how you say no one called us assholes for removing dictators but go on to criticize our Iraq engagement, the very example I used. What do you think we did in Iraq, we removed Sadaam. Would you want to live under a brutal dictator, the Iraqi people didnt. We gave the country back to its people & contrary to popular belief we didnt get any oil. If we did you think gas...
@mikedd56 It wasn't specifically for removing Saddam. I was about as in favor of the US removing Saddam as I would have been of Nazi Germany invading Russia and removing Stalin. You'll note that a country being free at home usually has literally no affect on its client states. We removed Saddam and occupied their country for eight years. We didn't get oil, true, the goal was to secure Mideast oil so we have control of its exports to Europe.
@mikedd56 An occupying power has two responsibilities - to pay massive reparations for all the damage it caused (in Iraq, probably a million deaths and the destruction of Iraqi infrastructure by decades of bombing) and then to do what the population wants it to do - in Iraq, besides the Kurds who hated Saddam with a special fervor because he used our chemical weapons to massacre them, probably 80-85% of the population wants us out and has for the entire war. For good reason, too.
@mikedd56 If we wanted Saddam out of power, why didn't we support the insurrection in the South during the Gulf War? An opportunity opened up to remove him from power, but US troops stood aside, on order from their generals, and let Iraq crush the rebellion. I'm a libertarian, of course I wouldn't want to live under a brutal dictator. I would also hate to live under a brutal occupation. Invasion and aggression by the powerful states is not a step towards freedom.
@mikedd56 Yes, 17 journalists were in jail. Surely an awful crime. Good thing they've been freed. The US has imprisoned journalists in its past, too. It doesn't mean we're some despotic police state. We're the freest country in the world.
On Iraq: "...78% of the population opposed the presence of Coalition forces in Iraq, 69% believed the presence of U.S. forces is making things worse, 51% of the population considered attacks on coalition forces acceptable, up from 17% in 2004 and 35% in 2006."
just like you are for supporting that scum Castro and his tyrranical government. Obviously you're not from Cuba because Cubans can't use the internet.
@fshjshshhs I never said I supported Castro, this is ridiculous to have this right wing tool Beck spewing his hatred for all these actors who support Castro or whatever supposedly, it goes back to McCarthyism. I am sure you've never been to Cuba either so I wouldn't talk.
I have been to Cuba it's a shit hole, I know you stupid americans think it's an utopia but no, so stick your head out of your ass or your burger and THINK FOR ONCE IN YOU FUCKING LIFE YOU DISGUSTING APOLOGING PRICK.
I just picked up the ridiculous original video where the fucking presenter basically says they're all mad for praising Fidel and blabs a bunch of disgusting lies and edited in order to listen to what the velebrities had to say, the american media is simply digusting and revolting, if you search for "spielberg fidel" you'll find the original video and you'll be able to have a laugh.

@00Shinkar00 Don't try to convince him, he's too ignorant to even consider other people's opinions.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@DieGoth74 I don't even know why I'm arguing, I've already made my point and every human being with an IQ of over 60 is able to see that I'm right. You're not even able to conduct a conversation that isn't based on offending others. You haven't produced one single valid and reasonable argument so far. Close-minded people like you will never see the truth, instead all they do is insulting people with other views and opinions on the internet. YOU, sir, are the loser here. I pity you.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@MrTaQiNonen Your stupid point is that you didn't receive education in your school. You received indoctrination instead! Stupid asshole! Nobody with an IQ over 50 would agree with you! You fascist, think that you are the owner of the truth. Loser! Hahahaha. You must be a retarded or a teen!
DieGoth74 2 months ago
@DieGoth74 It's called retard. Apparently, I received more education than you.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@MrTaQiNonen No, idiot! English is not my mother tongue, asshole! Hahahahaha. I received a very good education although some teachers tried to indoctrinate me. It seems that in your case you were easy to fool by some loser commie.
DieGoth74 2 months ago
@DieGoth74 English isn't my mother tongue either, but apparently I've acquired more knowledge of it than you; probably the same with history, politics and sociology. And, most important, you've obviously never learnt to have respect for other people either. You should have rather listened to your teachers, I guess.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@MrTaQiNonen Mr. Idiot, what are you doing speaking the language "of the Empire"? Your ignorance in history and politics is obvious as your indoctrination in school. I can respect people, not commies! Hahaha.
DieGoth74 2 months ago
@DieGoth74 He didn't say Africa was capitalist, he meant that capitalism denies the African people access to the goods and services that we are provided with. You can't disclaim this, it's a fact. They are too poor to afford the things we're used to and they stay poor because in capitalism, they never gain access to those things. That's the logic of capitalism. The rich become richer, the poor become poorer. This is amplified by global warming, which, of course, is being denied by capitalists.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@MrTaQiNonen Haha. Stupid! How can capitalism deny anything to people if capitalism is all about giving products and receiving money for that? Hahahahahaha. You make me laugh! Stupid socialist! Go back to school!
DieGoth74 2 months ago
@DieGoth74 You call Europe socialist? So the banks are socialist? And what about the US then? Also socialist? You need to get your facts straight.. even the UN admit Cuba has the highest literacy rate. In the US, on the other hand, only millionaires can study at university.. great, great capitalism, with 20% of the people living in poverty and the richest 1% controlling basically everything. Capitalism obliterates democracy, but of course, you close-minded capitalists don't want to see that.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@MrTaQiNonen Idiot! Can you read? Hahaha. Stupid fascist! Go back to school!

Yeah all the people who endorse socialism and dictatorship are the ones who haven't a clue about the difficulties of real life.

@DieGoth74 Before Castro, Cuba was a dictatorship of the right in which the overwhelming majority of the population was starving and had no rights. After Fidel, no one goes hungry and everyone has free access to education, health, food and transport. It is also useless to explain that in Cuba there are no children begging in the street and that the majority of the population has higher education available free of charge.

well... Spielberg is a dumbass... and an idiot, and a hypocrit... I am Cuban, by the way.
TheCF221 2 months ago
@DieGoth74 What is the alternative? The socialist regime in helped Cuba have the highest literacy rate in South America. Health care and education are extraordinarily good and free. I agree that the regime violates human rights and that there should be some market to make the people richer, but Cuba's not as bad as American media say. Capitalism, on the other hand, leaves billions of people in the third world starving. Everybody refuses to help them in order not to interfere in the free market.
MrTaQiNonen 2 months ago
@MrTaQiNonen Haha.

Would Glenn Beck not support the huge literacy successes that have been brought by the Castro regime and Che's nationwide campaign?

If Cuba & Fidel are so great then it shouldnt be difficult to find someone who went from Miami to Cuba on a shitty homemade raft b/c they just couldnt take living under America's oppressive rule anymore & wanted a brighter future for their children which they planned to find in Cuba
mikedd56 4 months ago
@mikedd56 Maybe if there wasn't a 40 year long trade embargo on Cuba conditions would be better. Maybe we should let other countries govern themselves instead dictating how other countries should be run.
Kariakas 4 months ago
@mikedd56 Cuba has been under US embargo for decades, hindering their efforts at industrialization. Taking this into account, Cuba's a pretty impressive case, especially for a Latin American country.

@nocturnezero
BTW Cuba has the 2nd highest rate of imprisoned journalists in the world.
mikedd56 3 months ago
@mikedd56 I've never heard anybody call the US an "asshole" for removing brutal dictatorships, but for imposing them like in Chile, supporting them like in Cuba and El Salvador, or co-opting the energy resources while destroying a country like in Iraq and Libya. The fact that the US is a superpower and has influence in every country is not an argument against the fact that the US has an economic embargo against Cuba. An embargo is not "leaving" Castro (I think you mean Raul?) alone.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@nocturnezero
...too that you say we destroyed Libya & took its resources. It was Libya's people who rebelled against their dictator. We gave them the tiniest bit of aid. They just captured the dictator there. I'm guessing its pretty volatile right now plus they just won their independence, I dont think it would go too smoothly the US just strolling in there saying move aside we're here for oil.
mikedd56 3 months ago
@mikedd56 The tiniest bit of aid? You genuinely think the NTC could have conceivably won that war against Gaddafy's superior military might and technology without French weapons and US/Britian/France bombing? They captured the dictator after a French bomb hit his convoy in Sirte. The US has already opened up the country for foreign investment. This is reported in the establishment media. You could find it in the New York Times.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@mikedd56 No, it doesn't. The Committee to Protect Journalists cites 4 journalists imprisoned in Cuba. Uzbekistan has 6, Vietnam has 5, Ethiopia has 4. Myanmer has 13, Eritrea has 17, Iran has 34 and China has 34. An International Press Institute report has Turkey topping the list at 57. Cuba released 17 journalists last October, dropping it way down the list. This is easy information to find.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@nocturnezero
...would be so high. Thats amazing..
mikedd56 3 months ago
@mikedd56 @mikedd56 An occupying power is supposed to pay reparations, not demand them. A war where we killed a million of them and ruined their infrastructure and still have about 75% of the population opposed to our presence is not a war for the people, it's a war against them. If we care about humanitarianism in Cuba, why didn't we in Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile, Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war... the examples could continue.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@mikedd56 Besides Rwanda, I can't think of another foreign action where the US was condemned for not taking action.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@mikedd56 The last three journalists, contrary to your assertion that Cubans view the US as some utopia, say they want to *stay in Cuba* after they're released. How strange.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@nocturnezero
If we did you think gas...
mikedd56 3 months ago
@mikedd56 It wasn't specifically for removing Saddam. I was about as in favor of the US removing Saddam as I would have been of Nazi Germany invading Russia and removing Stalin. You'll note that a country being free at home usually has literally no affect on its client states. We removed Saddam and occupied their country for eight years. We didn't get oil, true, the goal was to secure Mideast oil so we have control of its exports to Europe.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@mikedd56 An occupying power has two responsibilities - to pay massive reparations for all the damage it caused (in Iraq, probably a million deaths and the destruction of Iraqi infrastructure by decades of bombing) and then to do what the population wants it to do - in Iraq, besides the Kurds who hated Saddam with a special fervor because he used our chemical weapons to massacre them, probably 80-85% of the population wants us out and has for the entire war. For good reason, too.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@mikedd56 If we wanted Saddam out of power, why didn't we support the insurrection in the South during the Gulf War? An opportunity opened up to remove him from power, but US troops stood aside, on order from their generals, and let Iraq crush the rebellion. I'm a libertarian, of course I wouldn't want to live under a brutal dictator. I would also hate to live under a brutal occupation. Invasion and aggression by the powerful states is not a step towards freedom.
nocturnezero 3 months ago
@mikedd56 Yes, 17 journalists were in jail. Surely an awful crime. Good thing they've been freed. The US has imprisoned journalists in its past, too. It doesn't mean we're some despotic police state. We're the freest country in the world.
On Iraq: "...78% of the population opposed the presence of Coalition forces in Iraq, 69% believed the presence of U.S. forces is making things worse, 51% of the population considered attacks on coalition forces acceptable, up from 17% in 2004 and 35% in 2006."
