I remember an interview with them talking about this - Cockroach left because Cosby wanted him to cut his hair and he didn't.

Appearently there was a dancetaria show and they had to slick back his hair to put a cap on to make it appear he was bald headed. When the shot was over with an he took it off his hair was slicked up with grease. Cosby didn't like it and when Cockroach went to explain that wardrobe did it, Cosby was over talking him not wanting to hear it. Cockroach then said basically, 'later for this' and walked off.
